great beach ≠ no vendors

option a

walk to Krystal, enjoy less vendors

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Krystal+Puerto+Vallarta/@20.6495859,-105.2416575,1019m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0000000000000000:0x3a3c378fc59af914!8m2!3d20.6479775!4d-105.2398027?hl=en

option b

take a yellow taxi outside cruise terminal to Los Muertos Beach ($8)

enjoy lots to see lively beach, and lively vendors (we prefer b)

We got a room with the Marriot la Casa Magna - we had points as Marriot members and it was nice to have the room to change and shower. We used the room both days in port.

The pool area was nice. Dinner Oceanside at the restaurant was enjoyable too. They do offer a day pass if you call and ask -

Very few vendors and not pushy at all in the slightest. I think I was offered a hat once, and maybe braids for my girls once.

The waves were high (red flag) the days we were there but my eleven year olds played in the surf and my toddler in the sand and of course the hotel pool.

Thank you for this! This is right up our alley for our first cruise in Jan. 2017...none of the PV excursions offered through Princess interest me (not to mention they're all a little pricey IMO) and I prefer to explore on my own; these are great waypoints.

Go to the Marriott. You can get a day pass for 350 pesos and 300 pesos goes toward food and drink at the pool bar. Bring pesos, best to get at an ATM machine anywhere in Mexico. I have done this twice this year. They also have a great spa, I always get a massage there. Much cheaper than the ship. When you get off the ship just keep walking out toward the main road. You will see a gas station at the corner, start looking for a cab. The cabs right next to the ship charge anywhere from $10 to $15. We paid 50 pesos to get to the hotel. That's like $3. The exchange rate is now 19 to 1. The pool is very nice and right on the beach. Have fun, we are going on our 3 rd cruise this year so will be back in PV in Sept.
