Stateroom assignment

First-time Disney cruisers here.

We have often done a balcony guarantee on Holland America and usually do not receive our stateroom assignment until the week prior to sailing (sometimes up til a few days prior).

We just booked our sailing on Disney Dream for August 26 this past Sunday and were thrilled that we got our stateroom assignment yesterday.

Is it normal to get your assignment this quickly on Disney?

Thanks!!

Depending on what type of guarantee you book, the assignments are generally done at different times.

If you booked a GTY with a specific category designated (9C GTY; 4A GTY, etc), they are typically assigned about 45-60 days out.

If you booked a last minute IGT, OGT, or VGT, those are typically assigned 10-14 days out.

All that being said, any guarantee booking can be assigned a room at anytime from original booking date all the up to, and including, embarkation day.

The answer is that any guarantee can be assigned at any time.

If you book with a category attached (9BGTY), this can be assigned from the day you book. It is most commonly assigned about 45 days before cruising, but if someone cancels this type of cabin, you might be placed in it earlier.

Restricted bookings (IGT/OGT/VGT) can be assigned any time, but are not usually before 30 days out and can be changed up till the time you check in at the terminal. The most common time for an assignment is about 14 days out, but we've also found out our cabin when we arrived at the terminal.

Just as with HAL, book a cabin where you will be happy. Yes, we've had some nice upgrades with gty bookings, but we've also had some where we were assigned to exactly what we booked.
