Egg Island rumor - O.o

Well, the article is not accurate in some ways. For instance, it states that two ships can dock at Castaway Cay at a time and DCL is already doing this. Not so. The dock as it currently exists can handle one ship at a time.

Do they need another island? I guess it depends on what they intend to do when the new ships are built. If they intend to be a Caribbean cruise line, yes, I can see the need for either another island or an expansion of things on Castaway Cay. However if the goal is to be able to expand their cruise choices, it doesn't make sense.

Some people have gotten confused, claiming they saw two ships at castaway cay. While there have een two ships, one was not docked, but was sitting just off shore.

True. But if you are posting as a supposed DCL expert, you should have basic facts correct. And basic fact is that there is only room for one ship to dock. Yes, there have been sail by events, horn wars, and ships anchoring just off the island....but never more than one at a time docked.

The whole website is down and has been for a while now.

Maybe there is some truth and the Disney lawyers have sent a cease and desist letter to the owner?

Or maybe it was all just rumor and speculation?

Not disputing that. Just making an observation.

Per Wikipedia: "Egg Island is an uninhabited island, officially an islet, comprising 800 m2 (8,611 sq ft) in the Bahamas. It's so named because it is home to chickens owned by residents of other nearby islands who travel here to collect the eggs."

What could DCL possibly do with an "island" that is only 8,611 square feet ? That's less than the size of my backyard, which is by no means large.

Looks like it's about a mile long and a few thousand feet wide with a massive lagoon/bay taking up much of the interior. Could be workable.

At 5,250 feet long, 2,200 feet wide, and only 8600 sq feet of landmass, unless the internal lagoon were infilled, that would equate to less than 4 square feet per Magic class Guest, and just over 2 sq feet per Dream class Guest.

And that is without CM's, any facilities such as bathrooms, food outlets, backstage equipment for generating electricity......

No way could this island be used as a private island port stop.

OK, after some digging, and a little research and downloading, something is definitely screwy with the Wiki that says Egg Island is only 8600 sq feet.

Unless the majority of the land is marshland, and those trees are mangrove or swamp trees, there is much more than, but at least 2.75 million sq feet.

Compared to the size of CC, it is small, but not so small compared to how much of CC is actually used if you remove the cycle and CC 5K track, but includes the backstage service areas.

Using the CC airstrip as a measure, 2400 feet, and Egg Island 4000 feet along it's length, i also marked out the larger areas of what should be land.

The island is inhabited or has been inhabited, much like CC.

There are wild chickens and goats.

The trees have straight paths within them.

Do they really need another island just for 2 new ships?

And does that mean the all the ships are going to stick to Bahamas/Caribbean itineraries? (yawn!)

Well that is obviously debatable. However, the island needs days without ships there for general maintenance of all of the structures and facilities, the plants, pathways etc, and also for the family beach area water to recover.

One of the articles in the Facebook page that is on the website estimates that with only 2000 people going into the water in the cove, 15-16 gallons of sunscreen will likely be washed off and contaminate the water. And then people put more sunscreen on.

Magic at 2400 guests and Dream at 4000 Guests.......

Obviously the ecosystem that has survived thus far needs days off for fresh water to come in and refresh the marine environment.

With just 4 ships sailing in the Caribbean like in the winter months, Castaway "could" be visited 5 times in a week.

With two new ships, unless they send them far away permanently, CC stops would not be possible realistically.

It does sound like it would devastate the local wildlife and island.

After exploratory work on the island and surrounding reefs, Disney have decided that the island is not suitable or capable of supporting a development of the size needed for a cruise ship port.

“We recently completed a careful and thorough review of a project at Egg Island and determined that the environmental impact of our intended development would be too significant,”

Words can not describe how we are feeling today. We thank everyone who has had a hand in this, many people have been working hard behind the scenes. We united behind the cause and we were heard. Disney, we thank you for listening to our concerns and making the right decision. ‪#‎teamsaveeggisland‬
