Smoking on MSC

Depends upon the ship & the itinerary. In the Med it is usual for the Port side (outside) to have smoking areas, in the casino and in the cigar lounge(if one is available).

On a TA no smoking was allowed on board whilst docked in Brazilian ports, otherwise the above rules applied.

I understand that the casino on Divina is non-smoking and the smoking areas are more restricted.

In the YC, the Top Sail lounge there is usually a smoking area, on one cruise it was on the starboard side and on the other two it was on the port side.

Generally the rule is no smoking in cabins or on balconies but the balcony rule is mostly overlooked on the cruises we have been on. Look out to see plenty of people enjoying their morning nicotine fix leaning over the rail. Again I understand the Divina sailing out of Miami has stricter rules.

I understand that Europeans have a higher percentage of smokers and more tolerance towards smoking in public.

I know they have some designated areas... here's the Smoking Policy:

MSC Cruises respects the needs and desires of all guests, and we have given careful consideration to the preferences of both those who smoke and those who do not.

In line with global standards, smoking areas are generally fewer than nonsmoking areas, but smoking is freely permitted in specified areas throughout the fleet (selected mainly on the basis of increased or modified air extraction). Smoking is not generally permitted in any food service areas (buffets and restaurants), medical center, childcare areas, corridors or elevator foyers, areas where guests are assembled in groups for safety exercises, disembarkation or tour departures, public restrooms, or in bars directly near areas where food is served.

Because of the specific and proven risk of fire, smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is not permitted at any time in staterooms or on stateroom balconies. If evidence of smoking is found, a special cleaning fee of 70 euro will be charged to the Guest’s account.

Smoking is permitted in several bars on each ship, and on one side (indicated by signage) of the principal outdoor pool deck areas, where ashtrays are provided. Guests are advised by the Cruise Director and in the Ship’s Daily Program to avoid throwing cigarette butts over the side of the ship, where they could be blown back on board and start a fire.

So you now have a choice, book MSC or try another.

Whoever you cruise with, have a good time. [emoji2]

The YC on the Divina out of Miami has only one smoking area which is outside on the back of the pool area a few tables with ashtrays are set out there away from the pool and bar. I saw no smoking in Top Sail on all 3 of our cruises. Could just be nobody wanted to smoke inside. No smoking in the Casino.

I was quite surprised I never smelled smoke even though I know there is smoking on the ship in Europe.

Every ship I know has a smoking area. Of course if you don't smoke you probably wouldn't know about it.

And the newer ships have cigar bars/lounges.
