Dinner venues usually open at 6:30 pm until 9 or 9:30 pm

cannot help on the room service menu variety

but room service is 24/7

If you are in a PH though your Butler can get meals from the Specialties if that is something you prefer to have

The room service menu DOES include real dinner choices.

As Lyn indicated, if you are in a PH you can order from the Grand Dining Room and specialty restaurants. Your butler will give you a daily menu for the GDR, the others are static.

You won't starve ...

Not planning to starve , but I wasn't aware that in a PH one may order from the specialty restaurants. How does that work? Will the butler bring you a menu? Should we check ahead of time to see if that's what we would like to do?

(This will be our first time in a PH)

Just let your Butler know you would like to "dine in"

He will provide you with the menus if not already in the cabin

In a penthouse you have access to the concierge lounge.Everyday the menus for all the restaurants are kept in leather folders in there. We had Red Ginger in our cabin and loved it.Your butler will guide you through the 'process'.

The specialist restaurant menu available to room service is the same as the restaurant opening times.

Consensus is that you cannot combine different restaurants in one sitting.

There is a very good room service menu, available 24hours.

Ask your butler anything, they are so practical and helpful.

Further to Lyn's #5, I don't recall whether the PH cabins on the "R" ships have the menus in the cabin, but the OS and VS DO. There's less room in a PH so that could be the reason why those cabins don't have menus regularly on hand (assuming that is truly the case).

Your butler is your best source of information anyway.

We are booked on Insignia next year for our first Oceania cruise.

What time does the dining room open for dinner? Also, how varied is the room service dinner menu? When is it available for dinner? We are in a Penthouse cabin .

yOU CAN ORDER any thing from any restaurant on the ship...during serving hours that is 6-9:30 After that its the room service menu and it is not vairied like the main dining room and dining in your PH on Insignia will be most uncomfortable...there is not any vast room or dining table,,, they put a wooden board on your coffee table and throw a table cloth on it.... One person sits on a chair and the other on the sofa.... its only some 100 sq ft larger than a regular cabin about 3 feet wider is all, thats what I recall and the balcony in narrow in depth so not out there either

I am imagining it's the same on Regatta. I doubt we would choose a full meal from the dining room or specialty restaurant in our cabin, but it might be nice to have a lighter supper after a long day in port. Most of the time I am sure we will choose to eat in the dining room or at a specialty restaurant.

not to worry

you can order as much or as little as you like

Do not forget there is also afternoon tea & Canapes you can have delivered to your PH cabin if you are peckish before dinner :)

As far as a lite supper... I cant imagine having comfortable space for more than one table setting..and remember the chair is from the desk..its seat is the top of the table... Ideal of the munchkins having a dinner for Billy Barty

It better be lite like a club sandwich and burger... We did this on Regent in a PH and the cabin was 150 sq larger with 2 chairs matched to the table...

Having an main course with 2 plates and the table setting is going to be material for a Marx Brothers movie... Id urge you to scope out the setting when you arrive, The cabin pictures are taken with a special wide angle lens and set up just right...

Good luck I think your will find your eating picknick style with your plate in your lap, so it dosent end up there, with the slightest wrong move by either of you

We've had breakfast in a PH on the "R" ships and that worked fine. But we've never tried dinner there and I don't think we would. Even on Marina, the PH wasn't entirely comfortable. It's possible, I just don't care for the position at the bottom of the bed.

The OC, VS and OS on Marina/Riviera and the VS and OS on the "R" ships work much better. There's just that much more room.

When in a PH on one of the R ships about 5 years ago, our butler brought in the table and chairs from the veranda and set up our dinner there. Quite comfortable! He did move the coffee table closer to the love seat and pushed the desk chair out of the way, thus we enjoyed our dinner in our room without feeling cramped, or like a kid in a highchair. Worked fine!

On our first O cruise we had a PH on Regatta. Our butler brought the table in from the veranda and set it with equal care as they do in all of the dining venues! Perhaps they don't do that any more?

Yes, it was on the Regatta I believe. (could have been insignia) At that time it was table height with two chairs on the balcony of the appropriate height for the table.

Whoops! I just realized I'm mixing up my R ships. It was on Azamara Journey, our first R ship cruise! Sorry about the mix=up.
