Entertainment?

I've seen several posts stating there's not much entertainment in the evening on O.

Can someone describe what they do have? I see the Riviera has a showroom onboard. What goes on in there?

Thanks.

After many cruises we do not care to attend the shows, no matter what the cruise line. Oceania's entertainment is adequate.. If you want spectacular choose another cruise line. We love Oceania for their service, food, etc.

They have some productions shows & some single performers usually 9:30pm

1 show per night

They also have trivia or other games in Horizons after the show .like name that tune or Karaoke etc... maybe some live music

a lot of people say they never go go to the show but when we have gone the place is packed

if you google "Oceania dailies" you should find some of the newsletters

Last year on Regatta they had a very good group of young singers and dancers. We went to their evening shows and enjoyed them- 60's music, rat pack entertainment etc. we also enjoy playing trivia - it's a great way to meet people and have fun!

Many thanks for the information. We are considering a cruise on O in January. We are long time Princess cruisers but are looking for a new experience. Oceania sounds right for us.

Thanks.

Some people enjoy the shows others don't. We enjoy the great dinners, play a slots and enjoy the suites they have on the ship. You really can't beat one of the "O" higher end suites.

Agree 100%. We also do not attend the shows since the quiet retreat of our suite and a prolonged dinner fill our evenings on board.

I would highly recommended the Celebrity Solstice or Reflection. The Edge due out in over one year, also sb great. Especially if you can book a Celebrity Suite or above. An improvement over Princess IMO. Recently also sailed on the Harmony of the seas in a suite and really enjoyed it. Enjoy whatever ship you decide to sail on.

We just returned from a 12 day cruise on the Nautica. As others have mentioned, you won't find the big production shows like you have on ships with 1000's of passengers, but we find the entertainment on Oceania enjoyable. The Nautica's entertainment staff is small - 4 singers and 2 dancers so the production shows are more of a cabaret style and the cast performs well. The shows are at 9:30 p.m. On the Nautica there were 4 entertainment staff production shows and guest performers the other nights. One of the guest performers was Phillip Browne, who starred in West End shows and he was excellent.

On Oceania, the entertainment staff works with the cruise director and help run the games and activities during the day. Therefore, you actually get to know the performers and they're not just people on the stage.

Even during port days there were activities during the day. As others mentioned, although you might enjoy the entertainment, the food and suites are a major part of the cruise experience.

I'm not a youngster anymore, so my idea of lots going on might be different than others, but here's what a typical day from 4 p.m. on is like. At 4 p.m. there is tea in Horizons with a string quartet playing. At 4:30 or 5:15 there is trivia in the Nautica lounge run by the cruise director - it's a good time to have some fun and meet other passengers. At 5 p.m. there is a happy hour with 2-for-1 drinks in Horizons and Martinis. Also on some days at 5:15 the entertainers sing in Horizons during happy hour.

Dinner starts at 6:30 in the various restaurants on the ship and depending on how many courses you want to eat and how leisurely you want to be, you can easily spend 2 hours with your meal. Also remember that Oceania's dinner buffet is probably better than the meals served on other cruise lines, so if you want to eat at your own pace you can go to the buffet and have excellent sushi, lobster tails, shrimp, steak, etc. with a good selection of sides. In addition, in the buffet there are waiters that help carry plates to the table and get beverages for you.

At 8:30 there is trivia in Horizons run by the entertainment staff and then it's showtime in the Nautica lounge at 9:30 p.m. After the show there was usually some type of theme party in Horizons starting at 10:30 with a band and entertainment by the singers and cruise director. The casino is also open in the evenings and there is a singer/pianist in Martinis as well. Bottom line - IMO there's plenty to do on an Oceania cruise.

We too are hesitant to go to the shows on any cruise line. Specially the production shows look often like a high school performance. However we will try the shows on our Oceania cruise. Maybe they are good...

You must have gone to an exceptional High School if your production shows looked like those on Oceania :D

It would be unrealistic to expect Broadway/West End quality shows on any ship for obvious reasons.

Mostly because those with that type of talent ARE on Broadway and West End and not on cruise ships.

That said, the performers on Oceania in our experience were very good to excellent most of the time (with realistic expectations).

Attendance at these shows is not mandatory and despite that often there is SRO only - seems that enough people like them well enough to attend.

Your choice - I hope that they will entertain you :).

PS - I concur with LJ's post above.

Often times on big ships the evening shows are well attended because it's free, period. If I had to pay for those shows (even though I am through the cruise ticket price) I wouldn't. We enjoyed the river cruise entertainment in Europe as often times they would bring on local talent before departing in the evening and it was far superior to on board entertainment. My hope on our winter trip is an awesome dinner and then a laid back piano bar!

Local talent is a nice touch but not all local talents are talented :D

Just because they are "local" it doesn't mean they will provide a superior experience to the entertainment team on the cruise ship - some do and others don't. I have seen some very good ones and some very amateur ones on river cruises.

BTW - ocean cruise lines also bring on local talent at times.

We have experienced far superior professional talent on our two European River cruises than any "bigger cruise" line. I was a music educator for 49 years. Perhaps it was the proper river cruise company for us, which I will hold back from this board,
