Getting to Pier 66 from downtown hotel--then to SEATAC after cruise

We are staying at the Best Western Pioneer Square.

What is the best way to get to Pier 66? We were told we can take the bus (?) to Bell street exit and then it is a 3 or 4 block walk to the Pier. Is the building easily accessible from the sidewalk or is there a longer walk just to the building? A friend said we could just walk--not sure if I want to lug luggage that far! Or is it better to get a taxi or Uber? Does Uber raise their rates on cruise days? Are they reliable, timewise (never used one.) What would be an estimated cost?

Also, best way to get back to SEATAC. We will just have backpacks, so may debark as soon as possible and spend an hour or so before heading back. Is light rail doable? Or are we better to take a taxi or shuttle to SEATAC? Our flight is at 1:30 p.m.

What is cost of the shuttle or taxi? Do we need to book a shuttle in advance?

I would call a shuttle or a cab. It's only like $11 per person, last time we were there.

To get to Sea Tac from the port either take a cab or a shuttle.

Seattle Express is one company that we've used. Uber rates can vary due to surge pricing, and one never knows when that might happen, but usually during high demand periods.

Not worth trying to walk with all that luggage. I couldn't even begin to imagine that, actually. What if it is raining hard?

It is so much easier to just bite the bullet and pony up the $40 to get from the port to SeaTac in a cab and be done with it.

You could also reserve a private car ride, as we did with Seattle Express, to pick us up from out hotel and take us directly to the port without having to caravan all over town picking up passengers at various hotels. [emoji6]

It's totally walkable. Like, excruciatingly pleasant. It would also barely exceed the minimum UberX fare. It's precisely one mile of a pleasant utterly flat walk and you're actually pretty isolated from car traffic.

I would not use the city bus for this route. The luggage space on those buses is minimal.

Getting to the airport, I recommend UberX or Lyft. I don't wait for other people to get their crap together or fill a shuttle - when I'm ready to roll, I'm ready to roll.

It is a easy walk along the waterfront, probably a 20 minute walk. Your hotel is 1 block east of the waterfront.

Hotel to pier is a flat mile walk. Just did it this morning. I probably wouldn't do it with luggage. It's impossible to say if Uber would have surge pricing but even if they did you would probably be at less than $10 fare.

With just backpacks no problem to use Link. Before Noon or so going out of downtown should be relatively uncrowded. Could put packs in 1st-come/1st-serve luggage/bike area or on adjacent seats. Elevator up to Pike Place Market then walk a few blocks to light rail at Westlake Station.

  • 1 month later...

Once at the Pier the luggage drop off lines are long...... then you go 2 blocks around the building to get thru security, then the labyrinth of check-in area. If you can avoid carrying anything DO IT!

Wear your comfortable shoes :D

This is not good news for hubby with mobilty problem who can't stand very long. Are wheelchair escorts near luggage dropoff or are they after security the way most ports are.

What do those with mobility problems do??
