Is 32 too young to sail on Oceania?

It has happened, but I wouldn't count on it! It also can depend on the length of the cruise, location, and time of year. For example, you have better chances in the Caribbean at vacation times if you want to meet younger people. I wouldn't want to steer a 32 year old to a cruise where virtually everyone else will be 50 or more ... not that it would be impossible for you to enjoy meeting those people!

I've seen a number of posts here recently where parents are asking about bringing their adult children along with them ...

I hope it works out for you.

Will there be anyone my age on the boat that isn't serving us? Serious question!

Doubtful. Maybe…2-to-4 (if you're lucky)…. Maybe.

Ya want peers (And I don't know if you do….)? Lovely as it is, O probably ain't fer you!

Keep searching…you'll find it. (The right cruise line, I mean.)

Best!

I don't think so. There were more younger people and fewer octogenarians than I was expecting on my first trip. Mostly it is parent/aunt age though.

I suppose if you come for the locations, coffee, good food and relaxing, it is for you. If you want a disco, major music productions and water slides, maybe go to a different line. Mostly there are no or few kids so it is pretty laid back and quiet. It's a complete rest for us, until we leave to visit the shore and walk, cycle or jetski around.

Yes, I suggest you look for a different line unless a relative is paying for, and accompanying you on, your Oceania cruise!

No, I really do not think so. On our last O trip there was a couple your age. In the show one night the comic used them saying they must of got on at the last port by mistake and took them on stage. Funny but shows you!

Well I am already booked with my similarly aged girlfriend on a Riviera 7 day Athens to Athens cruise so I will have to make the best of it. At least I won't have to worry about a bunch of drunks or unattended kids running around.

You have the right attitude! And at least the two of you can be cozy together if it comes to that.

Many of the younger passengers (although not necessarily as young as you are) have commented that they have often enjoyed their interactions with older passengers. (Not all of them!) Some of the older folks (not me!) are as active as younger ones.

If you are on a port intensive cruise, you will be busy during the day anyway. Your biggest complaint COULD be that activities shut down early on such a cruise. For us older folks, getting up early for a tour and then coming back to the ship, dinner and maybe the show is IT.

Med last year and Alaska year before had younger folks (with/without kids) on summer 10 day itineraries. Recent 18 day Polynesia had fewer young adults and only several kids that I ever saw.

The Oceania demographic is more about well-traveled and cosmopolitan than it is about age or economics.

It will be port intensive so getting back to the ship you may appreciate a nice meal & quiet evening before hitting the port the next day to start again

We have had some 20 somethings up to 80 somethings on our cruises

most people are friendly & nice to chat with ...there are always a few curmudgeons onboard but you can avoid them ;)

Enjoy the cruise

I'm 38 and was 34 the first time I sailed Oceania (going on my 4th cruise day after tomorrow). You will be lucky to find someone in our age bracket. That doesn't make it a bad thing unless you are looking to party/stay out late. Oceania usually gets quiet pretty early (think 11 or midnight). I did have one group on my Baltics cruise where they were a big family and there were some people my age who (also) enjoyed playing craps in the casino and we had fun into the wee hours a few nights. But the average age pushes 60 I'd say. We always make friends and have a great time as the people generally are interesting and worldly. Not a party, but more like a long country club trip which I enjoy (thus the 4th cruise Monday). We tour pretty heavy in port usually so when we get back to the ship it's shower/dinner/nightcap/bed usually. Sea days can be a little bit of a struggle unless you can entertain yourself (I never sail without the internet package). Also the food is pretty great so if you are into cooking do sign up for some of the culinary classes (younger spirits usually in there and I make tons of friends each class). It's like staying at a 5 star hotel that goes to bed really early. :)

Last summer when on our honeymoon I was 31 and my husband 38. It was 7 days long Med cruise from Barcelona to Monte Carlo on Riviera in August. I was actually suprised, there were families with teenagers, young couples and quite a lot younger people. We enjoyed the food, ports and beautiful ship. Entertainment was the weakest point. It was boring and drinks expensive. We went to bed 11 PM every night. We enjoyed the experience and can think of cruising with Oceania if the price and ports are right. You should just know the entertainment is very low key and not geared for younger people. I loved the pool area, so beautiful and lots of space compared to other cruise lines.

Hola!

While we won't be on your cruise, we will be on a 10 day this summer with O. Our ages range from 37-46. We cruised Azamara last summer and had a blast. We were known on the ship as the first-off and last-on folks and the only group who walked to Taormina from our tender drop off (yes, up the hill, on a goat path). We made friends on board and shared a cab with one couple to the airport. Age...just a number. Enjoy your cruise.

Hola,

Me again (previous poster).

The biggest thing, and what I missed stating in my previous post, is that we are entering their territory. This for me, is a great thing! When I vacation, I want to lounge around, read a good book, drink a nice glass of wine over a delicious dinner. I have never wanted loud music, party games, boisterous groups, etc and have found a group of travellers on cruise lines like O and Azamara that like to travel similarly to me. If this is you too, you will fit right in.

I'm not sure why previous posters have said you've made a mistake or that you should look elsewhere. I can assure them I have not make a mistake booking my37 year old self on an O cruise this summer :)

Some do not want to see anyone younger or fitter than themselves

I welcome anyone over 25 ...it reminds me of how much fun I used to have at that age :D

Nicely said.

Another part of this (from an "almost geezer" in the "grumpy traveler 60's set") is that it's nice on O to be able to have very interesting conversations with new acquaintances about their past travel/professional experiences. Younger folks might actually find such conversations far more enlightening than "how 'bout them Niners" (though "how 'bout them Warriors" might be appropriate lately :-)

I'm not sure about that Lyn (referring to your first sentence) although I'm not insisting that you are wrong! But I do think most people (at least posters on CC) seem to assume that younger people will be miserable on a cruise with mostly older people. That's not always the case. It certainly wasn't the case for me when I was young -- and I mean YOUNG, not young-ER!

For us at that age I would rather sail with more mature people than the party people ...not too much the nursing home set but mature well travelled adults

did my party time in my teens & 20's but that was me

As long as they know it is a more quiet experience than Carnival & RCCL

it could work for them

Our daughter who is 31 cruised with us in nov for 25 days. She made friends everywhere she went on the ship. One in particular she kept referring to as her friend, and I asked her how old her friend was, the response was "your age". She loved her cruise and can't wait to go again.
