our first cruise to Alaska this June, I know the rooms are small and one tip we got was to stash the empty suit cases under the bed to make room in the closet, what size steamer trunk can the better half get away with > 2 liters or smaller for a 10 day cruise ? cant wait, got cabin fever bad......

Not sure how to answer your question regarding how much your wife should pack, but two large size luggage pieces (approx. 29" X 21" X 12") and a couple of additional carry ons will fit under the bed. One tip would be to put your dirty clothes each day in them to keep them out of the way. By the end of the cruise you will be mostly packed for your return trip home.

Two litres???

That's the size of a bottle of soda.

Do you mean 200 litres?

And "steamer trunks" are solid rigid boxes, often way too tall to go under a bed.

If you take a soft-sided case that complies with the max size of checked airline baggage that's usually included with airfare (length+width+height totalling 62 inches), it will fit under most cabin beds.

If you use a hard-sided case, you may have to leave it open in order to fit it under the bed.

One case will not be enough for your better half, since it will hold only about 35 pairs of shoes.

But that's not a problem, because she can also use 3/4 of your case too.:D
