Baggage collection for Diamond Pearl

Hi All

Sadly I am not Diamond Pearl yet but hubby is so I can piggy back on his status.

We've learnt that we can book this priviledge 20 days prior to the cruise and that a luggage company will collect the cases.

Can anyone tell me how long before the cruise they collect? We are planning a few days pre-cruise in Milan and then a Costa transfer on embarkation day to Savona. Costa UK could not help with this info.

Don't know if this also applies to Brits, in Germany we can pack the suitcases up to 32 Kg, this is also stated on the German page, but not on Costa UK page:

We managed to get that bit of info from Costa. How many days prior to boarding can you have your cases collected?

We have use this Company (Bagexpress) for a few years now lately as Perla Diamate members, book cases in 20 days before cruise they are then picked up by UPS five/seven days before your cruise depending on sailing dates (weekends) you can then track up until delivery to ship they will remain in Milan until sailing date and are outside your cabin on board.

One thing you must do is print out return label's & take with you also you must wrap case fully in film both ways leaving just the top handle free, no Wheels showing, you can ask Reception for film for return but beware if they do run out your cases will not be picked up so be sure you put a cheap roll in outgoing cases just in case, our Butler did wrap cases up for us on leaving ship but do ask in good time as it needs to be done before 10 pm as UPS cases are taken off separately.

You can use the usual cling film, which is quite suitable with enough layers, we also use the brown parcel tape over the edge of label & wheels, we used to buy ours from the £pound shop, but if you are going to use this service again then order the stronger stuff from Amazon roughly £7 for 300 metre roll.

If you are not Diamonte members you can book service earlier Bag Express is still the cheapest, but there are other that do it to hotels, but charge double into the cruise terminals.

As I said before don't forget to put cheap roll inside case for return, and your return labels 60 metres by 300 mm is enough for two full size cases. (Reception normally has the larger rolls and cabin steward will cover them for you given warning.

Hubby is now Diamond pearl that is why we are looking into this. Thanks for the advice about the cling film and tape.

Only cruising in May so plenty time.

As husband is Perla Diamante you can only book the free collection twenty days before the cruise. Put in Costa bagexpress and click on Perla Diamante members only on Costa's site or go to;

You will get return labels via email which must be printed out for your return the outward labels will be attached by the couriers, you still need to fixed the Costa label to top handle of every case (cabin number) case sizes are 25kl & 45kl.

It has proved to be a very reliable service as I can not handle cases through airport now, the extra blessing is that we can not go straight through into departures without having to go to luggage drop at airports.
