Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I’m interested in this too - but as I’m from the UK I’d want to do an eastbound because then I don’t have to deal with the awful jet lag. I’ve cruised twice before, but I’m doing my first Royal cruise in May. If I’m enjoying it by midway through I’ll look at speaking to NextCruise about a TA as I booked direct with them. A TA has been on my list since I started cruising but with that many sea days I want to pick the right line.
  2. My Oasis sailing in May doesn't have it either. I'm actually not too upset as when I did a similar itinerary on NCL, I found it a bit too intense and would've enjoyed a second sea day. I actually booked the trip because that sailing has the 2 sea days.
  3. I've done the special needs form 🙂 That's when they advised they could do that. I will definitely speak to guest services as the special needs team also advised that my friend and I can have a ship orientation on boarding day, and with how big that ship is, I'm going to suggest to him we take it. First Royal cruise so this is all new - my last 2 cruises were solo and I just kinda winged it and managed but as I've gotten older I'm a lot better at accepting help and accommodations.
  4. I'm low vision rather than blind and have cruised solo on 2 different lines - NCL and P&O Cruises. Both were happy for me to travel solo as I notified them at the time of booking. Things I was offered: - Ship orientation on embarkation day - Large print menus and daily schedules - For my upcoming Royal Caribbean cruise I have been offered reserved seating for shows - I use a cane on the ship and in the ports due to the crowds (depth perception issues and peripheral vision that doesn't pass my shoulders as well as 0 night vision) Blind can mean a lot of different things so it's going to depend on how much, if any useful vision you have, as to how easy or difficult the experience will be. Also, will you be travelling with a guide dog or are you a cane user? Good for you for embracing independent travel! I hope you have a fantastic cruise.
  5. On a similar note to this, does anyone have experience with reserved seating for those with low vision? I'm cruising on Oasis in May and the special needs team have said this is a thing they can arrange for all shows for me and my friend.
  6. Thank you both, that's really helpful. I'll have to have a think on what I want to do if the packages aren't all that. We're in Barcelona for 2 nights pre-cruise so if I want to go down the champagne/wine route we could always pick this up there. I know some specialty dining is absolutely on the cards as we're both quite foodie. If anyone has recommendations for Oasis, I'm all ears!
  7. So, heading on Oasis for a 7 night Med cruise next May. It'll be my third cruise, first with RCI. My friend is coming with me and it's his first cruise ever. I'd like to order some gifts for the cabin, but as he has access to our booking to pay his half of the cruise fare, if I book anything, will he be able to see it on the site? I think it's only my email address on the booking. I'm thinking of the Bon Voyage package, and the Champagne and chocolate strawberries. Anyone got either of these, and can you advise if you thought it was worth it?
  8. Oh no, I've had 12741 booked for a Canary Islands cruise since launch 😞 I'd hoped they'd sorted the issues with the pool, but now I'm considering seeing if it's possible to change cabin number.
