Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Brilliant idea. The video maker could follow the model Tom Sheridan always followed in his great guides (list taken from his now defunct Facebook page): The Top Ten Questions About Cruise Ports & Shore Excursions 1) Where is the cruise port? 2) Where does the ship or ship’s tender dock? 3) If there is a shuttle bus from the ship, where does it drop me in the city? 4) What are the top tourist attractions and things to see and do from the port? 5) Can I walk to the tourist sites or do I need transportation? 6) Can the major tourist attractions be reached by public transportation? 7) Where can I find maps for public transit bus, metro, train, & HopOn buses? 😎 Is rental car an option to tour the area? 9) Does a walking tour involve steeply inclined, difficult to walk streets, and/or climbing stairs? Where are the elevators, funiculars, or buses to avoid walking up steep streets and stairs? If someone would make videos answering these questions, it would be most helpful. 10) How much time do I have for my shore excursion?
  2. I have been searching the internet trying to find the wonderful Tom’s Port Guides but am having no luck….even when using the Wayback Machine…..I can get to the first page but no individual port guides will open. First of all, I’m worried about this wonderful man that produced these amazingly helpful guides….I hope he knows how beloved he and his work are. Next, I really need to use his guides for some upcoming cruises. Does anyone know how to access the guides? Does anyone know if Tom Sheridan is alright? Marilyn
  3. Hello Grandma Cruising….thank you for this grand compilation of Azamara tips. One question…..under Dining, line 46, it mentions soufflés available in specialty restaurants….is it possible to order soufflés in the main dining room as well? Thank you, Marilyn
  4. This list is wonderful. Thank you so much for compiling and maintaining! Marilyn
  5. Thank you all for weighing in on the Infinity and alleviating my silly worries. I do love Celebrity and I love the two itineraries so we will be booking them. Thank you! Marilyn
  6. Hello all. I love Celebrity cruises and am interested in booking two Mediterranean cruises on the Infinity for Fall 2023….it’s itineraries are wonderful. I had a nice on the Constellation in October but was surprised by two things…..food in the buffet that was not as good as on previous cruises and the towels in our cabin were extremely old and cheap. I’ve read a few reviews stating the Infinity is getting a bit run down. Has anyone on this board been on the Infinity recently? If so, how did you find it to be? Does anyone know when it is due for a refurbishment? Thank you. Marilyn
  7. I’m a bit late in responding to everyone’s helpful and wonderful information…..I got distracted from cruise planning for a bit. But please know I deeply appreciate your input. My husband is still worried about being bored on that many sea days but knowing there should be WiFi at least some times of the day and in some places on the ship is most helpful to him. The idea of three great meals per day being cooked for us by others is also tipping him in favor of the Atlantic crossing! Thank you all for the great input. Marilyn
  8. I am considering our first Transatlantic cruise next spring. My husband, however, will only agree to it if the WIFI service is good and reliable. The two ships we are considering are the Nieuw Statendam and the Oosterdam. Does anyone have experience with WIFI on either of these ships? If so, any tips? Because we usually take port intensive cruises, we have never needed or purchased an Internet package. Is there a package that is most recommended for transatlantic sailings? Thank you, Marilyn
  9. Our June 1 Oosterdam sailing concludes on the 13th at Trieste with a dock time at 6:00am. For those of you in the know at this port……is it reasonable that we can catch a train at 8:16 if we walk off the ship with our luggage? Thank you in advance. Marilyn
  10. VMAX…thank you for sharing that. We enjoy buying local wines at each port and would have been shocked to discover this upon arrival at the port. I’m glad to learn this in advance.
  11. Please excuse me if this has been answered on another thread, but this change is new to me too. Do you know if this rule applies to Mediterranean cruises also? On previous sailings, Med cruises have seemed a bit lax to me regarding the rules but I could be confusing HAL with another cruise line.
  12. Thank you! I have enjoyed learning from everyone’s answers, tips and links. Thank you for taking time to provide me with such helpful information. Marilyn
  13. My party of three people are now scheduled to dock in Trieste following our June 1 Mediterranean cruise on the Oosterdam. We want to go to Milan and then Lake Como after our cruise. So, is it best to……. - walk to the train station, take a high speed train to Venice, then a high speed train to Milan or….. - take a car and driver from the port of Trieste to Venice, then take a high speed train to Milan or….. - any other recommendations? Thank you in advance!
  14. Thank you for the info and brilliant idea on the spreadsheet!
  15. Thank you! Most helpful and very good news
