Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Good morning. We are on the same cruise. I just wondered if you were exiting the ship to travel to Paris? We are supposed to leave the ship a day early and take a train over to spend 2.5 days in Paris. There are five of us. My sister is very nervous about us going as well as for the rest of us. We have until tonight to cancel our hotel. Our museum passes and other items we pre-paid for it would be a loss for us if we don’t go also, it concerns me about trying to change our flights. Just curious if you know anyone that were planning went on going this route? Also, we did asked at the guest services desk if they would bypass the French port if the trouble was going on there or continuing in Paris? They pretty much answered it was yet to be determined, but it didn’t sound very confident in their answer.
  2. Sorry for the delay in my reply. We are on another cruise. We did negotiate in port. We waited until most of the people who were going were on their way. This was done by way of snacks for grandkids and a little shopping and laundry ahead of time. I think this probably gave us a little bit of an edge. We just pick someone randomly. I hope this helps. Happy sailing and if you have any other questions, let me know.
  3. We are currently on a cruise that will have port in La Havre. We plan on exiting the ship a day early to take a train into Paris to spend 2 1/2 days. Now we are very concerned about this. We are hoping things will settle down, before we exit the ship next Wednesday do any of you have any comments or advice?
  4. I have never placed a bid on a room on Princess before. This is a 12-day British Isle cruise. We are traveling with another family, and they have their own cabin. We have an interior room, as we looking to save a little cash this time around. Normally, we get a balcony or at least an ocean view. Anyway, I received an email to bid towards ocean view and balcony (regular and obstructed). So, if I decide to bid, what is the normal amount to bid? I literally have no clue. Not sure if the other group got the same email, but I don't think they would care if we went to another deck/room. Ok, let the suggestions begin, and thanks in advance.
  5. Thanks one and all! We don't have a balcony, as I did review all of the choices of restaurants on the Princess website. We have been married forever! Honestly, it is rare any longer that we do anything fancy. So, I think it will come down to Sabitini's or Crown. I appreciate all of your input and recommendations. You all are the best!
  6. DH and I will actually have our anniversary the day before we get onboard the cruise ship. So, we would like to dine the first night or one of the only other two days at sea, at a nice restaurant onboard. This is a 12-day cruise. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  7. Are you on Princess in late June? This is the same cruise, if this is the case. We have to connect in Houston after leaving Nashville, with a bit of a layover there. I fear we will be quite tired.
  8. I searched for the Odyssey Tours online, but I may have located the incorrect one. Can you advise where I can locate them? My husband wants to see the causeway in a terrible way. Many thanks
  9. Many thanks to you good sir! I hope this is the last question on the lodging question. Would you prefer a small flat near the Borough Market, over the establishment near the Shard?
  10. Thank you for the reply. Yes, my husband did review the Premier Inn website, and it appeared we would need three rooms for this establishment.
  11. Things changed again, and I think we found a Airbnb in the Waterloo area, that looks quite nice, and is reasonable. An apartment near the Shard. I hope this is a good spot, and we do much better than the airport.
  12. I couldn't agree with you more; however, the issue is finding rooms that will sleep 3 in one room and 2 in another room, at a reasonable rate. Just as an example...Park Plaza Waterloo total one night/one room $567, Hampton by Hilton Waterloo...$592, Marlin Waterloo $664. The prices are for one room/one night. We need two rooms. So, we are looking at least on the low end...just under $1200 for two rooms for one night. As I stated in my original post, if it were up to my husband and myself. we would go straight to South Hampton and call it a day. Even the Hostel was (I believe) around $450 for the five of us in the room with at least three other people. If you can make a recommendation, I would much rather go and stay in Waterloo. I did note the Novotel is $476 per night, We can cancel our reservation with no penalty, I sincerely appreciate the assistance.
  13. My DH and I were on a sailing Thanksgiving week. I had purchased a gift box of a delft blue cup and a small pack of coffee at the Dutch cafe, early on dis-embarkment day. When the staff rang it up, it had an 18% gratuity added to it. I have no issue whatsoever with tipping; however, I refuse to pay it on a souvenir/retail purchase. The staff couldn't remove the amount or refund my account. So, I went to guest services and asked for it to be removed from my account and left the package with them. They assured me it would be handled. When I got home and reviewed my statement it was still present. I called HAL, but the prompt only directs you to email and no option of speaking with anyone. It simply disconnects the call at the end of the recording. So, I sent an email to HAL around the end of November. On Jan 6th I received an email with a copy of my statement, asking which amount was in question? I had already disclosed this is in the first email. I did reply to them on the same day. We are now in May, and I have heard nothing. I have made multiple calls, and I am getting nowhere. I know $44 and some change is not a lot, but it is the point and it is my money. If I owed them, they would be threatening me with collections after all these months. I posted on their FB page, but have heard nothing. I am thinking of just asking Bank of America to disbute in my behalf. Can any of you kind souls, make any suggestions or directives? We are seasoned cruisers, and it was the first time on HAL. I liked the cruise a lot, but I am very disappointed with this. In fact, even with Covid slowing things down, I find five months to settle this situation, poor customer service.
  14. Thank you one and all for your kind assistance! I will be posting several more questions very soon. I promise to try locate the answers, before I ask.
  15. You could not have described it any better. Many thanks...,much obliged! Here is what we decided to do. We are lodging at a hotel at the airport. Honestly, our finances couldn't handle approximately $1200-$1500 for one night in the city proper, so early in our journey So, we are going to leave our luggage at the hotel, and head to the city. We will be staying in Paris 3 nights up on our return. We are going to be disembarking the ship in La Favre. My final hard "detective" work will be forthcoming. Once again; many thanks.
