Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Eclipse all the way. The ports are so much better. My husband and I got married at Caneel Bay a few months before it was destroyed. IMO, no other Caribbean island I've visited has lived up to my experience on St. John and Caneel. As for booking now or waiting, it really depends how much you want a specific room type. A warning about Solstice-class ships, if you do decide to try and move up to a suite just know that many suites sit below the Oceanview Cafe. I stayed in one of those once and hated every second of it. The rolling carts above in the wee hours of the morning and late into the night were loud and very disruptive to my sleep. Please keep that in mind before spending the extra money.
  2. We booked a pre-cruise stay to Iguazu Falls during a 50% off shore excursion promotion and that was the only way we found it remotely worth the cost. I haven't seen one of these promos in awhile, but if you really want to do their Rome tour, keep your eyes peeled for a promo. If you already booked, just rebook. At half off, it's almost worthwhile. Otherwise, I'd just do the tours on your own and book your own hotel.
  3. It's not you, it's the website. Are you by chance using a Mac? I spent hours trying to upload our passport photo pages and it was rejected every darn time. Switched to my husband's PC and it worked instantly.
  4. We just got off a similar itinerary, but with no overnight in Phuket. OP, this is a spectacular cruise for anyone who is into nature and beaches. This is a much better itinerary than the one from Singapore to Singapore. We spent three days in Bali (Ubud) prior to embarkation and it was a great spot to relax and recover from jet lag. Lombok was my favorite stop for seeing waterfalls and beautiful beaches. You'll want to hire local guides for excursions versus going with the ship. I found that the ship excursions were quite lacking on this sailing, especially if you want to explore nature/beaches.
  5. I took this one and really enjoyed it. We went to Asilah early in the morning before most shops were open. It's a beautiful little village and I found it worth the time. I was able to get many pretty photographs as there weren't many people around. Please know that no shops will likely be open in Asilah, so shopping here won't be an option. In Tangier, you'll do lunch and then do a tour of the Medina and market/shops area. I think we had like 45 minutes on our own at the end to shop or do whatever we wanted. It was enough time.
  6. We do the same. If our daughter gets rowdy (she's 4, so it still happens on occasion), one of us takes her back to the room or for a walk while the other eats. Then we switch. We don't want to be the family that ruins other guests nights. It's basic courtesy. Everyone comments how well-behaved she is at the end of cruises. Well, yeah. Because they didn't see her when she wasn't.
  7. Not a fan of everything Celebrity does, but our December cruise on the Infinity was fantastic. It was a better experience than I had on the Edge in terms of food (Luminae) and overall service. I'd go as far to say as the food in Luminae/Blu on my most recent Infinity cruise might have been the best I've had on any cruise.
  8. Just returned from a December sailing. Weather in the ports was perfect, although as someone else said, chilly in the morning. You could easily wear shorts in the Canary Islands and hit up the beach. The weather in Spain/Morocco was perfectly comfortable for walking and being outside. I was quite comfortable in a hooded sweatshirt (except for early mornings). I found the decks to be a bit cool/windy for my liking when the ship was moving, except around the Canaries. If the ship was in port, the decks were warm. Celebrity provided blankets for anyone that wanted to lounge on the decks and I think that would be sufficient. It's a nice itinerary and I wouldn't pass on it over the chance it could be a bit chilly on the pool deck.
  9. Don't expect to have the entire list of premium beers in stock. I'm an IPA drinker and the Infinity only had a few Lagunitas left on board (day 2) and none of the Dogfish Head. My husband likes the Leffe and they ran out of those halfway through our 12-day cruise. Also, I was unable to get any IPAs on my Edge cruise last year. I do wish Celebrity would improve their beer offering to include more craft-styles and IPAs - and actually have them in stock.
  10. If you use the Molina.imigrasi.go.id site for your e-voa, a PC works better than a Mac. Getting our passport image uploaded on a Mac was impossible and no issue on a PC. Your mileage may vary, but if you have technical issues, it's not you... it's the website.
  11. We have three upcoming cruises with Celebrity through 2024. We booked both of our 2025 cruises with HAL. The itineraries were unique and the price for a Neptune (plus all the included perks like gratuities, drink package, etc.) is far better than what a Sky Suite is going for these days. We thought we were going to stick more with Celebrity, but HAL won us back. Mostly because Celebrity is getting silly expensive!
  12. #2 is solid advice. We just did this for flights we booked for January. I feel like if we book early enough, there's usually a decent chance there's a change to the schedule that gives us the option to rebook. Another piece of advice I have for booking flights is for those of us who aren't lucky enough to live at a major airport hub. If you book an international flight all the way through from your starting destination, connect at a hub and continue on to your final destination and the price seems really high - try separating the flights. For example, our flight all the way through from Cleveland >San Francisco >Singapore was more expensive than usual. When I booked the Cleveland>San Francisco flight independent of San Francisco >Singapore, the total price fell by over 1k per ticket (business class). It's not without risk and it helps to have a long layover if you go this route as you'll have to go back through security/recheck bags. I've seen it work both ways. Sometimes connecting them can actually save money. Other times it can cost significantly more. It pays to check.
  13. Fine Cut Steakhouse or anywhere I can get a decent steak. The ones in Luminae aren't up to par in my opinion. I don't eat seafood and I'm far from an adventurous eater, so Luminae's menu isn't always my jam.
  14. If we had the time off to sail frequently like some others in this forum, we wouldn't sail in suites. Because we aren't retired and have limited time to cruise/travel - we treat ourselves and stay in a sky suite. If anything, we're the idiots grossly overpaying for the same exact ship experience as everyone who paid half of what we did.
  15. I'd be open to trying VV as I've heard many positives. But, thanks to their adults-only policy, I've got another 14 years before I can even think about booking one. It's their prerogative not to allow kids, but it does cut off a sizable demographic in their 30s/40s.
