Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. As mentioned previously, my only issue with the motion sensing light is when I'm accessing the safe sometimes it "times out" before I'm done in there. For those of us who get up once or twice at night, having all of the safety lighting is a convenience, I can usually fall right back asleep so I have no idea when they automatically turn off.
  2. Tried this... didn't work. When my patience returns I'll have to call to get this resolved.
  3. Their website was working fine in May before my Alaska cruise in June and was working well enough for me to book a British Isles cruise for 2024 early this summer but for reasons unknown it stopped accepting my password. Their app has never accepted my password, I always have to login with name and booking number. Frustrating!
  4. I've been trying to log in to the Princess website. It doesn't want to accept my password. I tried several times to update my password and log in with the new PW. It worked a couple of times but now I can update the password, it says it was accepted, I try to use it to log in and it says my login was unsuccessful. I was trying to book a cruise this weekend but I got so frustrated with their website I gave up!! Has anyone else been having issues?
  5. That's the truth, just got off the Crown, when I embarked I asked if one of the dining rooms was open for lunch and was told that only the Lido deck options were open.
  6. Not to hijack the thread but IMHO the reason the cruise lines are building larger ships isn't because of customer demand, it's because they are more profitable, if they can fill them. Personally, I'm OK on a ship with up to 3500 passengers but I have no desire to take a vacation with 5000+ other people. On the other side of the scale, I took a cruise on HAL's Prinsendam (something like 800 passengers) I thought it was too small, it lacked the amenities that I had become used to on most mid-size ships. I've been to Alaska (cruise only) three times, all with HAL, they do Alaska very well. I'm going again this summer with Princess (11N on the Crown Princess) so I'll have a better comparison of the two lines. I agree that food on HAL is somewhat better and the rooms tend to be larger. HAL is a more traditional line so their ships won't have many of the attractions of say RCL, NCL or Carnival. The passengers do tend to be older but in Alaska during summer break expect a fair number of children. Personally, regarding Glacier Bay vs. Hubbard Glacier, there are more glaciers in Glacier Bay and the scenery is prettier from what I can remember but Hubbard Glacier is HUGE, I saw more calving there than any other glacier I've ever been to. I don't think you can make a bad decision with either HAL or Princess, I would look at itinerary and cost as my prime decision making factors. Good luck.
  7. Yes, the original two shot Moderna, two boosters of the original vaccine and one booster of the omicron bivalent. Roughly a booster every 6-9 months. It probably lessened the severity, I barely ever coughed. Felt like a mild flu.
  8. Disembarked from the Equinox in Port Everglades on 4/15/23, felt fine. Took Celebrity transfer to FLL. Noticed scratchy throat after arriving home. Positive antigen test on Sunday 4/16/23. I was traveling alone and was very careful to stay masked in the public areas of the ship and on excursion transport. I must of picked it up during a shared table breakfast in the MDR as that's the only time I would be unmasked with other passengers. Less likely that I could have picked it up at FLL but again, I was masked in the airport. Feeling better after a week, just slight cold symptoms now.
  9. My DW suffered a health scare after we had booked an 10N Panama Canal (in & out) for next March. She is still uncomfortable with the idea of travelling in general so we decided to cancel our upcoming cruise (before final payment was due). After the agent took care of our request I had noticed that they deducted the vacation protection amount from the deposit that was due to be refunded, I asked how come I have to pay for vacation protection when I cancelled before the penalty period, the agent's response was that the vacation protection was not refundable. That doesn't sound right, excursions, drinks dining, etc. are all refundable if the cruise is cancelled (especially before final $). If this is the case I will NEVER add vacation protection before I make final payment again.
  10. The cruise started in the last week of June and ended toward the second week of July. I cancelled DW and substituted my Mother just before final payment which would have been near the end of April if payment was due 60 days prior to the start. Thanks for the phone number Mary229, I'll probably need it.
  11. DW and I had a cruise canceled by HAL back in 2021, we let them retain the monies paid in and they in turn gave us 2x the value in FCC. We used that credit to book a cruise in 2022, my mother, my aunt and uncle were joining us on this trip. Right before final payment, my DW decided not to go due to a health issue that came up after we originally booked this trip. Because I didn't want my 83 yo mother travelling alone, I decided to keep the booking and substitute my mother for DW in our Vista Suite and cancel her inside solo booking. When I did that HAL told me that DW's portion of the FCC couldn't be used so we paid the additional amount at final payment. DW's portion of the FCC was to be returned to her account. I went on the trip, enjoyed myself, reconnected with family, etc., etc., recently I got to thinking that we need to do something to use my DW's remaining FCC before the end of the year. Lo and behold, I checked her account on HAL's website and there is no mention of her having an FCC. This was no trivial amount, and half of it was actual money I paid to HAL. What could have happened? I now need to go over my records to find documentation of the credit amount and call to confront HAL and request it be reinstated. Is calling the best course of action or would written correspondence be a better option? Thanks for your time and attention.
  12. I was on HAL's Rotterdam back in July, they had a dedicated area for tastings. They did a Highland, a Speyside, an Islay and a Lowland Scotch tasting (on a separate night for each category), a Bourbon tasting, an Irish Whiskey tasting, a Canadian (I think?), a Japanese tasting, a Johnny Walker tasting and a couple of others. It was a 14N cruise so they found a reason to have a different one just about every day. They sounded interesting but since my DW did not accompany me on this trip I abstained from the events so I don't know how well they were attended. They did have their whiskey collection on display, it was pretty impressive.
  13. I believe that blue lane means that something has to be done at the pier to allow you to board. It could be a security photo or verifying your vaccination status. Check all of the categories on the app or the online check-in tool to see what information might be missing.
  14. We will be sailing on the Grand Princess in a few weeks. I was wondering if any of the bars have whisk(e)y tastings available? We have a drink package so we can always do our own tasting but a hosted event may be more fun. Thanks,
