  1. Your attitude is what's inspiring! I am grateful to know you (even if only virtually).
  2. Praying that it went well, and they gave you enough pain meds that you are resting in deep sleep. πŸ™
  3. You didn't need an environmental impact statement for that stove back then? 🀣
  4. That's an interesting way of justifying no choice of excursions! I much prefer AMA (and Scenic, also in my experience) for an extensive list of excursions that works for those who want a 'postcard' tour as well as those who want to do something off the beaten track [especially useful if you have already visited the area]. I'm sorry you had a poor Cruise Director on AMA (my experience has been better), but as you note the CD doesn't lead the excursions – local guides are hired for that purpose. I also disagree about the photo previews: seeing the details is very helpful for those who are still debating between choices.
  5. Yes, but you do what you have to do. Emergency root canal, trip long scheduled – would you cancel?
  6. I don't believe it was ever done on every cruise [I've sailed on Azamara three times and never had it]. So there was no need to lie – they should have just said "not on this cruise, sorry" as they did for Ithikan.
  7. This was going to be my guess, as that's what other cruise lines do – the land tour is long enough going from Flam to Gudvangen, looping back to Flam would be longer and no more scenic. Everyone will experience the sail-in up the fjord to Flam; those who don't do a full-day excursion will also experience sailing back and up the side fjord to Gudvangen; then everyone will experience sailing out of the Gudvangen fjord and to the sea. No matter which choice you make, it's a great day! [I recommend the Flam Railway/Gudvangen excursion.]
  8. Don't eat the chocolate chip cookies in The Club ATL lounge!!!
  9. Second the opinion that France will have good dental care. And possibly less expensive than you expect. I cracked a tooth in the lounge at ATL just before flying to Buenos Aires for a long Patagonia trip. Went to a dental clinic in BA and had it polished down (didn't need further work until I got home) plus a full-mouth x-ray – for a total of $41.65 USD
  10. You're not going to leave us hanging with the brass monkey are you? Please finish the story!
  11. You may have more evidence of cost cutting than you have shared here, but bland food sounds more like the main dining room chef's taste than cost cutting. We found on one back-to-back cruise that the cuisine changed dramatically, just because of a change in the head chef.
  12. So far this is the first Azamara cruise that I have heard about with the fuel problem. No explanation so far, so let's hope it was some kind of one-off. The itinerary changes on Oceania have been voluntary (or probably demanded by NCL) and were strictly to save money.
  13. @pontac glad you found something that ticked all the boxes. I can understand the issues about flying TAP, although I made it even worse by booking an Azores Airlines flight through TAP – neither one has great customer service and both sent me to the other on every question!
  14. They didn't cancel any on our NZ-Oz cruise last month, and in fact added additional departures when excursions filled up. But every month seems to bring more bad news...
