Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. 9 February 22, 2018 Maine #1 Posted Friday at 09:18 PM Ending an 8 day Viking cruise in Athens early October 2025. Never seen the sights. Would like to use the time before the flight check-in to see some of Athens. I guess Viking won't want them stored aboard as they are turning the ship around. Is there a port office which could keep them? Athens Tourist Office have lockers? Other ideas? Allowing for approximate disembark and transfer times, we think we'll have 2 extra hours, 8-10AM, to do something. We are assuming 2 hour airport check-in. Thanks very much, Ted

I guess Viking won't want them stored aboard as they are turning the ship around. Does Viking have a port office that would keep them? Other ideas? Or will the airline accept bags 6 hours before departure- then we could go back to the city for a few hours and return to the airport. Thanks
  3. Will be on a cruise ship in eastern Adriatic in September at the popular ports- Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar, Kotar, etc. Haven't nailed down the cruise itinerary yet but can guess we'll only want to spend 2 hrs finding, renting and snorkeling. Must leave ample time to see the sights on foot. Possible? Can you point me in a direction? Would these cities have tourist Info offices? I'd like to set something up before getting on the ship. Many thanks, Ted

  5. Thanks all. When are most families travelling in the area with children in summer?
  6. 4 February 22, 2018 Maine #1 Posted 8 hours ago Hope to do a 7 day cruise to Slovenia, Croatia, and Montenegro next year. Small to mid ship. Of the many served ports in Croatia, which 3 or 4 would be essential to visit? We are in our 70's and active. Per Split & Dubrovnik weather sites: Average high temps of low 80's with 50% humidity for July and August don't seem too oppressive. Looks like late May and before late September would be pleasant enough at 73. Rain: September has the highest rain figures at 3". Does this information seem representative? Some reviews say August temps are killer with oppressive temps. Am I missing something? Crowd timing: Any advice to avoid the worst shore crowds. Are the towns overcrowded due to cruise ships or land tourists and families with school kids? Many thanks, Ted

  8. New to this. Which cruise lines do week long cruises to Adriatic (perhaps Venice around to southern Croatia coast? Around 700-1300 passengers. May through September. Many thanks, Ted
  9. First timer. No experience with land or cruise travel agents. I believe there are conventional cruise travel agents (large and small companies) and also "preferred agents" who represent a select number of cruise lines. Are there other types? We have heard there are experienced people who "make up a group" looking generally for the same general destination and experience. Finds a ship and books the group. Sometimes they join in. The group members seem very pleased with the unique experience and enjoyed quite a savings. What is that type of service called? How to find them? Can anyone comment on the the advisability of this approach? Are there other type agents? FYI: Interested in likely eastern Med, week long, moderate budget (not low cost nor high luxury) and prefer a smaller ship (700-1300) if possible. . Many thanks to all
