  1. We used DSSR Bus Rental for a tour of Puerto Plata last week when the Carnival Glory stopped in the Dominican Republic and we were not disappointed! What a great company and tour guide! We had met another couple on the ship and asked them to join us and Chepe, the tour guide, was thrilled to include them. He even made sure to have enough drinks for all of us. His knowledge and love of the island comes through strong and clear in his narrative and we learned so much about this city. He made sure we hit every scheduled stop and timed it so well that we never ran into the larger tour groups from the cruise ship. We couldn't believe we were able to do so much in 5 hours: Tour of the rum factory, cigar rolling, chocolate factory, a tour of the town square and cathedral, lunch in an authentic Dominican restaurant, a short stop at the beach, the cable car and the gardens and statue at the top of the mountain. All for a very reasonable price. It was great that the company provides not just the tour guide but also a separate driver which allows each to concentrate on their individual jobs. I felt confident using them as they had a 5 star rating on Trip Advisor which we now know was well earned and accurate. We enjoyed this tour immensely and are so glad that we did it. The only thing about this tour is getting to the van. Since Carnival will not let outside vendors in the gate, you must walk out to the highway to meet the van/driver. It's about a 15 minute walk which is not too difficult.
  2. We have booked the Hampton Inn Coconut Grove for this month which offers stay & cruise and a shuttle TO the port (must taxi/uber back). The rate was very good and they have a parking garage attached to the hotel. Reviews I have read have all been good. I will try to remember to come back and post a review.
  3. We've done 16 Princess cruises and are now doing a 7-day Eastern Caribbean on the Glory in mid-October. (I'm working toward being a travel consultant and taking a "seminar at sea" to learn more about Carnival.) I know there will be similarities and differences between the cruise lines. But what are some of the major differences? We're in an OV on deck 1. While we're used to a balcony, I think this is going to be OK. The cabin looks larger but what about the bathroom? Is there room to put out toiletries? Advantages/Disadvantages to this deck? Also, DH is a diabetic and Princess always has a sugar-free (SF) dessert option on their dinner menu and SF desserts on the buffet. I've seen a few posted Carnival menus but no SF options. I'm guessing we just have to ask??? Do we need to wait to access our cabin on embarkation? What about drink prices? DH drinks Bacardi & Diet Coke. I've read we muster outside :( but no life jackets?? We're looking forward to our new experience
  4. While on the Ruby Princess earlier this month, we spent the day in Monterey. We wanted to view the 17-mile drive and stop at Pebble Beach. Rented a car from Enterprise that was within walking distance of the pier. Took about 15-20 minutes to walk there (There was a shuttle bus from the pier to the office...we just weren't aware of it.). The people in the office couldn't have been nicer. Everyone had a smile and a welcome for us. There were at least 5-7 people in the office. We were offered an upgrade and were able to negotiate the cost of filling the tank. The car was immaculate and upon returning the car to the office, they promptly settled the rental and drove us back to the pier. It was easy to get to the 17-mile Drive and follow the road. Even though the weather did not cooperate...it was rainy and windy...it was still beautiful. It was a joy to drive it ourselves and stop wherever we wanted. Since we wanted to see the aquarium also, we drove there, toured the aquarium and then returned the car. Would definitely rent from Enterprise again.
