Adding that a vegetarian meal with protein is not a difficult ask. It should be a standard option on the menu everyday.

Yes! 💯 How is it that this is not the norm? I really don't understand. Again, I feel so awful for your experience. I'm so happy that Dad is willing to try Princess. I thought you wrote that this would be your last cruise with him. You both deserve a do-over, so I'm looking forward to your next adventure together ❤️

Back on board I used the hair dryer to dry off then just relaxed and watched the rain until it was time for dinner.  I wasn’t very hungry but had prearranged for a vegetarian meal at a certain time in Cagney’s so we went up for dinner. In my opinion NCL uses the term Freestyle Dining but there is nothing freestyle about it. With ships sailing at and over capacity reservations are needed for specialty dining.

    Drinks were good

Not pictured: the screaming baby at the table behind our table. This kind of ruined our meal.

half portion of lobster bisque for dad

I did not order an appetizer. I wanted to have room for my dinner.  After dad finished his soup and after I had said twice that I didn’t want an appetizer the waiter brought me cauliflower soup. He said the Restaurant Manager, Wilson, told him to serve it to me.

It was fine, but I didn’t order it and I didn’t want it.

Dad ordered petite filet mignon cooked medium

This is his plate as presented by NCL.

The meat was so tough and so overcooked he could barely cut it, let alone chew it. Dad’s face showed utter disgust and I don’t blame him.

This is my meal. Paneer with veggies.  Dad and I shared it. It was good but not great.

Yesterday I requested lentil dal for dinner tonight.  The lentils came cold and undercooked in a swirl of avocado. This was nicely presented but my god the chefs need to taste their food. Don’t serve undercooked lentils. I did not eat this.  It wasn’t edible. Actually, I don’t even think these were lentils. They were green and round.

That is the story of my “special” meal.

Dad had ice cream for dessert and I didn’t want anything except to get out of Cagney’s.

Cruise Critic needs a "care" reaction like that other site. I feel so awful for your experience 😥

  3. Thank you do much for taking us along, and it saddens me so much that this was your experience. They absolutely should be comping this last cruise. The Jewel was my first NCL cruise, and I would be so upset if I had your experience. Things lately are just not great with the line, and I don't see them getting better soon. Little cuts here and there and lack of training all adds up to bad experiences. I hope you do get to try Viva and have a more positive experience ❤️

  4. Thanks for another great review! Bummer about the internet. I have a couple thoughts on the theater. One is that they assume anyone using a phone is taking photos or recording. The other is that it could be seen as distracting to others if people have the bright lights of their phones on. It's super subjective, byt definitely possible. I did notice on The Pearl last summer that the staff were very vigilant about telling people to turn their phones off during shows. I didn't notice any rude staff per se, but I could see staff getting tired of telling people to turn off their phones and then reaching their breaking point. It's not an excuse, though, especially since it sounds like that tainted your entire experience.

Wishing you safe travels and hoping your next cruise is a little better. You posted the most amazing photos that made me really want to get to Alaska someday! Thank you again ❤️

  5. The captain moves fast out of NYC in cold weather. You shouid be off the coast of NC by your second day. Possibly chilly, but definitely beautiful and much warmer. I find it worse coming back north. That last sea day tends to be really cold, and we always seem to have rain as well.
