  1. I totally agree with you on this point. I am also quite certain that the major cruise companies have each conducted such a feasibility study, and that their inaction with regard to changing the PVSA is a clear indication of what these studies concluded. If it was economically profitable for them to change the law, they would be working to do just that. The fact that it isn't even on their radar tells me that they have determined that it is not.
  2. Considering the vastly reduced number of flights currently being operated, it makes no sense to maintain operations at both LHR and LGW. And as LGW has always been the more leisure-centric airport, consolidating operations at LHR makes perfect sense. Everyone's in survival mode right now.

While I do have a certain amount of sympathy for them, I have no patience with companies trying to weasel out of their legal responsibilities.

  5. Can't comment on AF business class, as I've never flown them up front. However, regarding the transfer of points, I have heard anecdotal reports of people who have created Flying Blue accounts with the sole purpose of transferring points having their new accounts frozen. Seems it triggers some sort of fraud alert in their system. Therefore, if you don't already have a Flying Blue account, I would create one ASAP, and make sure that you have some sort of transactions on the account prior to transferring the points - establish an account history, if you will. Also, unless you can include it with your TA flight at the same number of points, I wouldn't fly down to Barcelona - take the train, much more pleasant and thus negates the necessity of staying at an airport hotel.

Actually, I was reading this morning (https://www.flyertalk.com/articles/whos-still-flying-and-whos-not-a-definitive-list-with-live-updates.html) how airlines are significantly cutting the number of flights - it has it all broken down by percentage of flights cut, up to 90%. There was also a list of airlines that are completely grounded - lots of smaller airlines, but also some major ones like Austrian and LOT.

  8. Many factors. More choice, which usually means better prices as well. Destinations served - it takes longer to sail out of NYC, so limits your choices. I personally live in a departure port city - Quebec City, to be precise. However, I have never cruised from there. I prefer to cruise to more exotic locales than ones where I have or can travel to by car... 🙂
  9. The Old Town Trolley has a stop right at the door or the Marriott Copley (stop 11). When we stayed there (admittedly nearly 9 years ago) they also sold tickets in the lobby. Unless the setup has drastically changed, you can't get much more convenient for the trolley.

  11. martincath makes some good points worth considering. I shall look at your question in a more straightforward manner: non-stop into YUL, or one-stop into YQB. As I live in Quebec City, this is a question that I have had to deal with (and the related cost implications) many times. And I can tell you: flying into YQB with a stop is vastly easier. There really has to be a significant cost savings for me to travel to YUL for a flight, and to be honest these days the cost difference really isn't that great.

  13. Others have done an excellent job of discussing the various seating options on board Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge. Standard, Flex, Comfort, and Latitude are all fare classes, which each hold their own conditions and restrictions. What have you purchased? Well, that's a very good question, and one who's answer can be critical if there is an issue with your flights. Normally, when you purchase a flight, your confirmation will show you a letter code which shows which fare class you're booked into. The fare class can dictate what if any FF miles you will earn, what changes can be made and at what cost, rerouting conditions, etc. Try to find out what fare class you're booked into, and even better the full terms and conditions which should have been sent with your confirmation.
