? re driving from Anchorage to Seward

Thank you for the recommendation. We're staying the week in Anchorage - with a one night stay in Seward. I think one more hotel and I would push the hubby over the edge.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was planning on being there early - but now will make SURE to be there a couple of hours early. Have a great cruise!

? re driving from Anchorage to Seward

I will be the week of May 14th. We figure to drive straight to Seward, do the cruise and spend the night. Then the next day slowly may our way back to Anchorage. We want to make several stops including the Wildlife Center. Thanks.

Oh, duh. Thanks so much. I've been to both via bus and train and couldn't remember which was which. Thank you!
  7. We are going to be driving from Anchorage to Seward for a Kenai Fjords Cruise. (on a Monday if that matters) We need to be there for an 11:00 sail away on Major Marine Tours. What time would we need to leave Anchorage to make it there (a little early)? I know there are tunnel time issues - but I'm not sure how long it takes to get from Anchorage to the tunnel and then the tunnel to Seward. Thanks in advance.
  8. You take off your shoes and leave them on benches where you put on the boots. They are just a rubber boot. You should be sure to bring / put on an extra pair of socks. Not only for warmth but to help with padding in the boots. I did the excursion a couple of years ago and didn't bring an extra pair of socks. By the end of the excursion I could barely walk and (about 6 months later) lost a toenail. Sure wish I would have paid more attention to folks on this board. The hike to the glacier is over the moraine and thus a very rocky uneven surface. It was a wonderful excursion and I would do it again - in a heart beat... with extra socks. Enjoy!

Where did you stop to see the sled dog puppies. I believe there are two possibilities. One was at the kennel of a former musher and the other is at more of a touristy area. Thanks.

Rental Car in Skagway, Juneau & Ketchikan easy?

Thank you so much everyone for the replies. We have decided to only rent the car in Skagway. I purchased the Murray's Guide. VERY helpful indeed. In Juneau we will do a Mendenhall Glacier / Whale Watching trip. In Ketchikan we will do the Misty Fjords boat trip... and pray for no rain. ;) This is my 5th cruise/trip to Alaska - but my husband's first. I NEVER thought I'd get him on a cruise ship so I want to make this as hassle free as possible for him (in hopes that he'll do it again sometime). Thanks again.
  12. We are thinking about renting a car in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan to provide a little more freedom and comfort than the ship excursions. I'm looking for info on where/how to pick up the car. Can you walk from the port to pick up the car? Any pros or cons from folks that have done this? We will be traveling in mid May of 2018. Thanks.
  13. Perfect. Thank you so much. Your link is full of awesome information.
  14. First time on NCL and purchased the 3 meal specialty dining package. How does having this package work when ordering in one of the restaurant? Since it's "al a carte" is there a limit (price wise) that you can reach? Is it somewhat unlimited? Just for the sake of the question... what if you wanted two appetizers, two entrees and three desserts? Thanks
  15. Our ship will be docked at the Railroad dock from 7:30-5:30. I'm trying to decide whether to do the walk to the Gold Rush Cemetery or to Yakutania Point. Interested in scenery and photo opportunities. Wildlife would be a plus - but no bears as I'll be by myself. They are in opposite directions. Has anyone done both? Is one "better" than the other? How long (time wise) does it take to get to each one? Is it possible to do both in a day? Thanks in advance.
