So I've done some bookings to put together a round trip from Bergen. Picked the F trains to be able to get seat assignments in advance. F4 Bergen to Voss 8:14 to 9:20 Gudvagen to Flam Ferry 12:00 to 14:00 Flam Railway 14:35 to 15:31 F4 Myrdal to Bergen 17:04 to 19:06 My missing piece is the bus from Voss to Gudvagen I assume this is the Skyss #950 departing at 10:10. My question is how and when can I buy these tickets? I'll need to do this with a US credit card. One other question, is there any problem taking a walker on any of these segments. It doesn't get used during the segments but just for the walk between them. Thanks!

Reykjavik tour that will end at Keflavik Airport
ericosmith replied to Ladybug18's topic in Iceland and Greenland
I'm looking for exactly the same thing. I believe you can put a city tour together through Grey Line but that involves a charge for the pickup and transfer to the central station, then a city tour, then another transfer to the airport. -
How to prepare for a turbulent Norwegian Sea ?
ericosmith replied to SempreMare's topic in Viking Ocean
I'd like to hear from one of the former mariners on this topic. I've always had the sense that it was the swell that got to me, not the wind or the waves. It was never the rather rapid motion but rather the repetitive, constant more extreme motion. That I know is influenced by both height and direction. What I've always wanted to know is how to predict what that will be. I'd prefer a beer to a Dramamine any day if the forecast is decent. -
Is anyone familiar with the Portland Mail Boat?
ericosmith replied to Nashna's topic in Canada/New England
I found it fascinating. Really enjoyed the variety of things loaded and unloaded at each island. We were able to get off at once stop for a few minutes to stretch our legs. There's also some very nice scenery. -
Excuse my ignorance but at least on Android you have to allow a connection that does more than just charging. Are they implying that this safeguard can be easily defeated?

Medallion app - I don't have a smart phone!!

Shucks, that medallion is the best thing about Princess. Walk up to the cabin door with your hands full and open it with your elbow. -
Belfast: Tour the city or surrounding area sites?
ericosmith replied to KKB's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
It's typically used as a generic name for any number of companies that run tours in taxis that explore both sides of the wall. Usually they run between one and two hours and not all the taxis are even black. Most use your typical London cab. -

I vote for the Black Cab tour and the Titanic Museum. Both of them were outstanding. I wouldn't really call the Black Cab Tour political though. -
I think one needs to differentiate between business practices and onboard experience. Having been on 3 American Queen river cruises I would say that they are different, but certainly on a par, from a standards perspective. The service tends to be on par although more informal, in part because of the all US crew. The entertainment, while not ocean standard is certainly good with two shows nightly that you won't find on an European cruise. While the ports along the US rivers might not be as interesting as Europe, the Hop on Hop off busses are a great feature. I will agree that with each acquisition, the business side of that company certainly appears to have gone further downhill.

CAR RENTAL AGENCIES WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF CRUISE PORT
ericosmith replied to tjhoffman64's topic in Canada/New England
Be aware that the ship may actually dock well south of the path shown on the map. You get to the rental cars the same way but the starting point may well south of the University shown on the first map. -
CAR RENTAL AGENCIES WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF CRUISE PORT
ericosmith replied to tjhoffman64's topic in Canada/New England
There was an Enterprise or National there also. Just be warned that the entrance is not well marked on that side so keep a sharp eye out. -
This is probably insensitive but here goes...I can actually understand the rational for some emotional support animal when flying. I say that because there are certain situations flying is a virtual necessity due to family emergencies or perhaps even the desire to travel to a location that would not be accessible without flying. Many people have a genuine fear of flying. Cruising on the other hand is an entirely optional activity. If you need to have emotional support to be on a cruise ship, should you really be there in the first place?

The $200 cash reduction is just part of a promotion from Viking. In a booking I recently made it showed as an additional agent discount but in fact you could get that same $200 reduction by booking on the Viking site.

I've done the 2 hour tour a couple of times and really enjoyed it. I've gotten them half price through Groupon: https://www.groupon.com/deals/gl-hornblower-san-diego-9

I find it rather fascinating that pretty much everything anymore requires a label. The reality is that rarely does a label perfectly describe anything. Not to mention, as witnessed by these comments, there is no rigid definition of any label. Personally, I don't care what the label is for anything if it meets my expectations and standards.

We're on that cruise also. Just not much of a joiner. I think there will be more than a handful of passengers since the cruise has been sold out for months. Planning to book our own nutshell route on the 15th.

I'm curious why you decided to do the loop in this direction rather than catching the bus in Voss and taking the boat to Flam?

Back to the train... I'm planning on Bergen-Voss-Gudvangen-Flam-Myrdal-Bergen. I know for example that I can book Flam to Bergen but I would prefer to book separate tickets to allow a bit more time in between. Is there any reason why this wouldn't be a good option?

It's been a couple years but we really enjoyed it. It was a short walk from the ship and fascinating to watch the cargo being loaded and unloaded. We were able to get off at one island to stretch our legs for a few minutes. -
Interesting, when I try a booking it says 60 days...

See my post above for this years excursion and price directly from My Viking Journey
