Last time we were there, (Sept 2019) most of the restaurants around the Vieux Port had become pizzerias if that is what you are looking for. It is also quite touristy there so the choices and value for money may not be he best. and you would be better looking at restaurants somewhere close to the area but not actually around the port. As it isn't at all clear what you are looking for, nor your budget, try Tripadvisor Marseille Restaurants where you can use the filters to help you decide.
  2. A more attractive view of Dubai from the new terminal. Thanks for uploading the video.
  3. Perhaps you should consider cross posting on the NCL forum for best results. as it is NCL specific. Other options include a taxi or a public bus from close to he cruise terminal. And there will be info on how to do that on this thread: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2697012-palma-de-mallorca-diy-new/page/15/#comment-65181634
  4. is this a newer larger terminal? No - this is the one with 2 terminals with capacity of 3 mid-sized cruise ships docked - near to Dubai Palm island. On our visits there was only one, at Port Rashid. It IS a new one. When I googled i discovered this is a new cruise terminal, only opened in December 2021. It is a joint partnership beween Carnival Corp and another company, so presumably all of the ships belonging to cruiselines which are part of Carnival Corp will be using this terminal. You said you were onboard a Costa ship and Costa is part of Carnival Corp.
  5. Have you tendered in at Cannes before? Only once and we did a shorex so were in the first groups off,,both other visits were land trips to the area.. Much will depend on your line and ship and they way they organise them, this sometimes depending on the number of passengers onboard..Smaller ships do not always follow the same routine as larger ships but may follow it in part.. Usual routine is Shorex first, Suite and other pax with privileges next, Higher loyalty status next, All others often in groups according to the numbers they picked up from a lounge. Usually the lower your number the shorter the wait. For a more accurate answer you could ask about the tendering procedure on the forum for your cruiseline..
  6. Cristo Rei statue can be seen when you cruise in and out of Lisbon (opposite side from Belem) And it is illuminated at night.
  7. We were hoping to be able to take a local bus to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque? We spent some time pre-trip trying to find out if a bus card was available at the terminal but had no success.(You need this Hafilat to board a bus) In the end, we exited the ship and went to the taxi area where a small number of passengers were standing, and in a loud voice simply asked if anyone was looking for a taxi share to the mosque. Immediately one couple stepped forward so we agreed the shared ride. Others waiting there then began sorting themselves into taxi shares! En route we discovered that "our couple", like ourselves were keen to get there quickly as they had booked the 1000 free tour, the same one we had booked. We arrived before opening but were able to enter the grounds and take exterior photos before the crowds arrived. We four did our tour (highly recommended by the way, read reviews online), then we all shared another taxi to the Emirates Palace Hotel where we split up on arrival and we all did our own thing from then on. I can also recommend visiting the Emirates Palace, not only the outside, but also the indoor public areas. It is quite the place with huge grounds including fountains, a cricket ground and a private beach close to which we saw superyachts. Images and info online. It worked well. More costly than a bus, less costly when the taxi fares were split between two couples, and we were lucky when leaving the mosque that "our couple" also wanted to visit the hotel. Remember that mosque entry and the mosque tour are free, as is the hotel unless you buy one of their gold cappuccinos! We walked after that, along the Corniche until we reached the shopping area where our ship shuttles were dropping off and picking up. There were a few taxis at the port but many many at the mosque so finding one wasn't an issue. And we didn't see a public bus at either location.
  8. T1st time to Kotor in May and found a company that offers the following tours. There is really no need for a tour out of Kotor unless that is your preference. If doing a tour I would suggest either #2 or #3, neiher of which we did, but #1 is easy to DIY.On our second visit we took the public bus the short distance to Perast and went over to "our lady", using one of the several boats waiting in Perast. A taxi would be another option. After "our lady" the small waterfront is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a drink and admire the views, and Perast is teeny tiny to explore but pretty, so only a short time needed for that.. Returning to Kotor we casually strolled the town again as it is a really delightful small town to spend time in.. Our first visit there we explored the town more in-depth with three stops for cold drinks as the temperature was really hot. Climbing the hill is not for the faint hearted especially in high temperatures. You will see the hill when you tender or dock. And absolutely be on deck a good 90 minutes or so before arrival for the very scenic sail-in. You will pass "our Lady". We much preferred the early morning photos and filming as the light was perfect and is very different on the sail out later in the day and the morning was also very still and peaceful. You could pull up all previous threads and replies about Kotor to read what others did. On the general OTHER MEDITERRANEAN PORTS FORUM (not an individual thread) input he word Kotor in the empty search box under your username and hit the little spy glass.
  9. Only one visit, and we tendered but I don't know if that applies to every ship. If you can manage a tender, once ashore he town is flat and easy to move around. There is usually information on your booking or on the itinerary details about which ports are tender. They will either be marked with a little anchor or the port name followed by the word tender.
  10. pre-pandemic there were sometimes free shuttle buses from the cruise terminal I was referring to the original Dubai cruise terminal, not one at or close to Dubai Marina Harbour.- is this a newer larger terminal?
  11. that comment referred to POSSIBLE dress code for mosque entry if allowed although I don't actually know as we didn't enter one there. We did visit one in Muscat(very strict dress code), the only one which allowed non muslim visitors, and the beautiful one in Abu Dhabi. They will organise appopriate dress at the entrance for anyone who needs it. And men should really wear long trousers which cover their legs, not just their knees. Dress code guidance is usually found on the websites of individual mosques.
  12. Sorry but i cannot help with that. You could try googling or contact the official tourist info offices in each to ask the locaion of taxi ranks or for tel numbers or perhaps uber or similar?
  13. So DIY Aix was second choice, not first? I would not describe Marseille as "a seaside town", it is a port city. The seaside towns where visitors go on beach vacations are actually to be found scattered along the coast in both directions from la Seyne, with Bandol, Hyeres and Sanary being closest, and plenty more to be found further away. If you are sailing Disney and have kids with you, this could be a good stop to forget about sightseeing enjoy a beach day instead.
  14. Tthe usual dilemma of too many choices and not enough time. You already know the benefit of a land trip, but this time you only have a few hours. And August isusually the hottest month in that area so you won't want to be dashing around. Antibes is really quite close to Cannes and there should be easy public buses and trains running that route.. I rather like Antibes, especiallly the old town and the area around the harbour/marina, but that is me not you.. And if you like the works of Picasso, you will find some here Long time since I last visited but there used to also be a very good market in town. You can also walk to Juan les Pins but you may not find much to interest you there unless you want some beach time but you could stay in Cannes for that. Unless you plan on paying taxis for each journey, you would need to do some online homework regarding public buses and trains, also for info, reviews and images for Antibes which should be found easily enough on Tripadvisor and others. With your port times, both SP de V and Antibes should be doable together if you don't put off much time anywhere and can get on an early tender.. I think! It is of course your own responsibilty. Or you could go to Nice alone, an easy train ride from Cannes where you would have time for sightseeing and a leisurely lunch there.. Again, info on Tripadvisor and others.
  15. Having done some online research before leaving home, we knew this wasn't an ideal port for DIYers, so took a shorex on our first visit. There really wasn't much to see there. Finding ourselves back there a few years later we stayed onboard instead of venturing out.. Joystick. You need to check if you can actually visit the mosque as not every mosque everywhere allows non-muslims entry even outside prayer times. Eg in Muscat Oman only one mosque allows visitor entry. And Fujairah is ultra conservative so dress codes could be very strict, more so than in ohers. By that I mean for ladies, full coverage from head to toe. theee is no alcohol at all, and sharia law applies. You need to research all of that. By contrast, the similarly named Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi is breathtakingly beautiful and we got there by taxi, sharing with another couple off the ship who were also heading there from the cruise terminal. We had all four pre-booked (online) one of the earlier free morning tours which take you to indoor areas other members of the public cannot enter, including the main prayer hall. if you have Abu Dhabi on your itinerary I suggest you go, but it does get extremely busy so go early.
  16. An afterthought. Pre-pandemic there were sometimes free shuttle buses from the cruise terminal which transferred passengers to a shopping mall, sometimes more than one, on occasion only one, but they were an easy and free way to get into the city without paying the taxi surcharge and there was no obligation to go into the mall. Once off the shuttle you were free to go wherever you wanted. Once again, I do not know if these are offered post pandemic.
  17. The biggest problem we had was to get a taxi from the cruise terminal to nearby metro stations. They simply did not want to take us when we wanted them to turn on the meter and pay by card. We were once desperate enough and asked how much it would be with no meter and cash. The driver wanted to charge us 3 times the price of the meter fare. Anyone else faced this in Dubai ? Taxis are relatively inexpensive in Dubai,(cheap fuel !) but it doesn't really make sense to take one a very short distance from the cruise terminal, because you may or may not be aware that there is a 25AED surcharge added to any taxi fare which leaves FROM either the airport or the cruise terminal, therefore the shorter your jhourney the more expensive it appears. The surcharge doesn't apply to journeys TO either. That was pre-pandemic. you would need to check if the surcharge is still current or not.
  18. And the Bardolino wine is also excellent! We very much enjoyed the Lake GardaVerona combo as it perfectly suited our preferences.
  19. the HOHOs are excellent for an overview of the ciy, but for short hops, I totally agree that taxis are the way to go. Another option could be to take the port bus to the drop off point followed by a metro, but if there are a few of you, it may not be less costly or even faster than a not very long taxi ride. A current thread only a little below yours: https://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/topic/2924067-2023-taxi-fares-from-port-to-sagrada-familia-barcelona-etc-on-a-b2b/#comment-65016756
  20. Sorry, but IMHO, and for peace of mind, I think you are being over ambitious, but others are almost certain to disagree. Cannes is not as convenient for Nice and/or Monaco and if you also add Eze, even more time consuming for travel and you may spend most of your day travelling from A to B to C without much (if any) "feet on the ground" experience of any of them. And there was a recent thread about a change at Eze which means you have to go up and down again on foot, and that too will eat into your time. And do bear in mind that Cannes is a tender port and time will be lost both leaving the ship and reboarding, so you could lose anything up to an hour at each end, maybe a litle less if a small ship or perhaps more if a big ship. You could pull up previous threads for Cannes, Nice, Monaco/Monte Carlo and Eze by using the search tool under your user name and inputting each name in turn.. To do this successfully, stay on the general FRANCE PORTS FORUM and not an individual thread. Here is the recent EZE thread https://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/topic/2917259-how-long-and-difficult-is-the-walk-up-to-eze-village-from-the-bottom-of-the-hill/#comment-64868374
  21. I would suggest you consider going to nearby Bandol by bus or train, really only a few minutes. From there you could take a taxi (buses are irregular and not really direct) to le Castellet, a pretty (if touristy) hilltop town. It is a scenic drive which passes between and alongside mostly vineyards which will have varying amounts of grapes depending on the month of the year. Bandol rose wines are amongst the best in the world and quite famous.. There is a""one stop tasting" option in Bandol, called la Maison des Vins de Bandol where there should be a small number of open bottles for free tastings, although their other outlet on the outskirts of le Castellet is a much more attractive place in a really beauriful setting.. Not so convenient though without transport and you would need to pay a taxi to wait for you before continuing into le Castellet. Or spend the day exploring Toulon, practically on your doorstep from la Seyne. Info and images of Bandol, le Castellet and Toulon easily found online. Or spend the day exploring Toulon.a Maison deslMaison des vins de Bandol, there are usually a small number of bottles open for free tastings, but the one on the outskirts of le Castellet is fOenothèque des Vins de Bandol'Oenothèque des Vins de Bandol
  22. "Somewhat vague" is a definite understatement. I thought it more of a throwaway remark as there was no indication whatsoever of personal interests, (architecture, museums, scenery, history as examples) and there is of course no such thing as "must see" as vacation locaions are usually a personal choice related to personal interests. Having said that, somewhat reluctantly I submitted as I think it is within the spirit/ethos? of CC to share with other members, so perhaps the OP might engage for a similar reason. Interestingly enough, the reference to Desenzano del Garda. is not an unusual suggestion.as Lake Garda and indeed D. del G are mentioned in a current thread about Hotel at Lake Como which digressed a little.. Much as we personally enjoy city breaks, as we usually visit for at least seven days, we like to mix and match a little to take in some scenery in a less busy location. Thank you Costwold Eagle for the quotes tip as I never did get around to figuring how that worked, and now I know, however I don't always want a full quote as some are very lengthy, preferring to copy/paste only the part i want. BTW, you are located in a beautiful part of England, one we spent two weeks in many years ago and from which we ventured far and wide from our base just outside "Chippy". Our only slight disappointment was Georgian Bath as it resembled Edinburgh New Town so much, we thought it not "new to us" at all apart from the Roman Baths which we though were wonderful.
  23. kac911 Would advise you to go to the forthports website and use the dropdown menu to "find your ship" as that will give you your docking (or tendering) location. Once you know that, go to the "getting around" link which gives information on transport options for each location. Note that a taxi isn't always the only option.
  24. Thread has gone unusually quiet. Nobody else with thoughts/suggestions? Will be flying from Los Angeles to wherever we decide to go pre Lisbon aunteemom, would any of the above be even remotely on your radar?
  25. Unsure where you have looked for feedback and found none as there are plenty of treviews on tripadvisor, alternatively ask on this Palma sticky from the top of the page, and roger b is almost certain to spot it. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2697012-palma-de-mallorca-diy-new/page/14/#comment-65165543
