Was wondering what the beach situation is. If you have pictures could you post them. We go next week and I was looking so forward to relaxing on the beach this day and lately have been told of muddy waters and seagrass.
Was there on 11/23 .... we were doen but the end at Blue Kay. Water was CLEAR. Beach was beautiful too. Quite a few people in the water and we were still able to see fish.

The FREE tram only takes you from the ship to the beginning of the market -- just the pier. There is a separate tram that travels the Malecon for $3 pp.
-
- Pier is just over 1/3 of mile long
- Trolley is not wheelchair accessible.
- Taxi vans are available outside the pier/port area but non are wheelchair accessible.
She CAN transfer and walk some.
We can break down the scooter into the trunk of a car ....
So .... taxi would be possible, right?

We're headed out this weekend and our first port is Costa Maya. My Mom was hoping to get by with just her cane, but looking further that pier looks really LONG.
She has a scooter with her, but can we bring that on the trolley? If not, is it hard to get a cab at the port?
We're headed to the end of the Malecon and while the scooter could probably do it, we really want to stay together as a family.
Thoughts?

Did they say why the water was considered unswimable?

We are thinking of visiting Blue Kay in 2 weeks. Can't seem to find the price for spending the day there on their website. Has anyone gone recently and could you help out with this information? Thank you
I want to say it was $35 / day but I an't find it on their site currently.

CATS is the West End and Broadway musical. Most people seem to hate it with a passion. It is on Oasis. I enjoyed it
Oh THANK YOU!
I thought we were talking about emotional support animals. Considering how allergic I am, I was just envisioning getting to my room and having to disembark to breathe!
I can live with theatrical cats. ;-)
-
What is meant by CATS? Kind of new to RCCL.
Yes please! I'd like some clarification.
(please please please don't let it be people bringing pets on board - I like breathing!!)

If you are flying to Tampa it is probably much cheaper to rent one at home. The place I bought my scooter rents them for less than $100. per week.
Following this logic, I called around near her home. We found a local mobility to rent a scooter for $100/week. So much better than the $245 quoted by one of the big companies!
More money for drinks? LOL

Are you sure it doesn't break down? When i was looking to purchase one they all broke down/come apart for travel. I am assuming you need to put it in your car.
Nope. full size ones don't.
-
Look for a medical/wheelchair supply company in your town.
If you are driving, then a scooter can come apart and fit in the trunk of your car. Personally I bought a lift for the back of the car so I can now go to the mall and other shopping by myself.
Mom has one at home (near Tampa) but it doesn't break down. I think Ill try to call around before we use the service. Big issue will be getting it home -- it would be nice if she ould get that done before we arrive so we don't have a "To Do" list the day before sail.

Thanks so much for the wonderful photos! You're in my backyard now - as I live in New Hampshire. We'll be boarding her next month in Tampa.

Lisa - I went to Royal Caribbean's website and did a search. Here's the link. There are two companies - CareVacations and Special Needs at Sea. These two companies will deliver scooters to your cabin.

Thank you! I looked round but apparently missed it.

I am sure others will respond but I can only comment on Maya Chan.
Is there a cost to Maya Chan? If so do you know what it is?

See RCCL brochure at

There is a special needs phone number near the end.
Thank you, its very helpful but not exactly what I was looking for.
Someone said that not all companies could bring scooters to the ship??
We've neer rented one before for a cruise or any other reason.

I know I read here somewhere about choosing a scooter company for RCCL ... only some companies can bring the scooter to the room or something?
What options are available???
Thanks for your help!

Brilliance has Izumi (a la carte $$) upstairs from the WJ where the Seaview café used to be. There is a station in the WJ where they have "sushi" (and I use the term very loosely) in the evening.
Why do you "use the term loosely"?
Was it not good? Not a good selection?
-
Can anyone tell me if there is a Jade section in the Windjammer on the Brilliance?

I am a BBW. I have been on 17 cruises. About half of those were as a solo.
Make sure your expectations are realistic. The shower is small. You may have to request an armless chair for dining. You may not able to manage any but the least active excursions, the shore excursion desk can advise you.
Be friendly and courteous, and staff will go out of their way to assist you with any issues.

Armless chiar! Brilliant. Would never have thought to ask for one!

But if she has a scooter, why not just ride the scooter in to the development?
Its not something we're used to. She's renting it for the trip. Don't know how much "life" it has to get around. I know we're intending to go the length of the Malecon.
I even have trouble getting into a minivan so I always ask to sit up front....and most drivers on the many islands we have been to have a Rubbermaid step stool for us short-legged older ladies....That would be perfect. We actually carry something in our Explorer so she can get in. It's an old soda crate. When flipped over, it creates a wide stable base for her.
Hopefully others will chime in that have been .....

Traveling with my Mom who has some mobility challenges.
How hard it is to board the open air bus? Is it high - like a Ford Explorer? Or low like a regular car?
I'm assuming we can't get a scooter on it.

I have officially picked where I'm going on our Costa Maya day...Koox Blue Bay (or may be known as Kay now).
Mitsugirly - Are you still around? ::crossing my fingers::
I saw that when you were at Blue Kay you had drinks. Did you ask about the water / ice that they used - if it was bottled or not? I really want to enjoy some blended drinks, but really really don't want any after effects.
Thanks again for your review. I'm looking forward to visiting!
Blue Kay - great day!

I still haven't posted my review ... bad me
But we had the SAME experience with the pina colada!!!
Absolutely horrendous. We had something with peach though -- frozen. That was very good.
