Unable to reserve parking at Port of Miami
donsullivan replied to NewlyMrs.Kilday's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I did it when I went out on Icon earlier this month. While they call it a reservation, it's hard to see how they could guarantee you a parking space if you arrived very late in the day. But it also doesn't look like they have a capacity issue, at least on a Saturday departure. I just looked at it as a way to prepay for the parking ($269.50 for 7 day cruise) in advance to not have to wait in lines for people paying on the way out when we returned. https://www.royalmiamiparking.com -
Icon September 28 canceled
donsullivan replied to caribbeanboy's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I was in a suite up on deck 17 on the 9/7 cruise. The shuddering when they used the bow thrusters for docking, especially in and out of St Kitts was so severe it was rattling the metal ceiling and wall panels in our cabin. You could actually see the metal ceiling panels fluttering and actually hear them rattling, the level of movement was so significant. I've never experienced anything like that. I've felt a rumble from bow thrusters on Oasis class ships before, but never anything even close to the level of vibration, especially that high up in the ship to be vibrating wall panels. I can't image what it was like down lower and closer to them. I have no clue if this is what they are repairing but that level of vibration, cannot be good for the ship to have to endure on a regular basis. -
Why is it appropriate to harass the on-ship staff because you don't like a fire safety policy implementation by the cruise line? Do you really think Royal did this just to annoy their passengers? Complaining about it and harassing the staff will not remove the safety risk they are clearly trying to mitigate.

Hideout Cabana pool
donsullivan replied to Crazy planning mom's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I had the pleasure of experiencing one of the Hideaway Cabanas 2 weeks ago. These are the separate set of cabanas all the way at the end of the Hideaway beach area. The pool is 3-1/2 feet deep. This is a separate pool available only to those in the Hideaway cabanas. It is not the large Hideaway Beach pool. Each cabana gets an area roughly what you see here dedicated to their cabana. So the 6 of us had this area to ourselves for the day. It's all connected into one long pool that spans across all the cabanas but there are so few people, everyone has this area to themselves. The ledge with those orange chairs is around 6 inches deep and then as you can see, there are steps down to the water off to the right of the image. This image looks to the left from our Cabana -
Yes. I had already checked in for the Icon cruise on 9/7 when I made the change to my profile. The SetSail pass will not show the other data elements like middle name and 'Jr' but if they are in the profile, when they scanned everything at check-in, it now matched and no intervention was needed to fill-in the data gaps like it was for Utopia in July. Additional piece of clarity- the middle name and suffix will also not show up on the Sea Pass. This just fixes a mismatch in the name on Passport at Check-In

Since it feels like you are trying to call me a liar, let me restate. - When I checked in at Port Canaveral for a Utopia Cruise in July, the name on my registration did not exactly match my passport. The agent told me the middle name that is on my passport was missing on my reservation. He had to get someone to help him, but he fixed it there and then everything was fine. - After I returned from that cruise I logged into my profile on Royal Caribbean website and fixed that data gap by adding missing data elements from my passport, including my middle name: You can find this form at: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/account/profile/contact-information - When I checked in to board Icon in early September, the data mismatch between profile and passport no longer existed and everything moved forward without incident. And for reference, the Icon reservation was made before I updated my profile on the website. So unless the representative at Port Canaveral specifically singled out just me of the thousands of passengers boarding Utopia that day- they DO need to match the data but since everything else matched, he was able to correct things to allow me to board by filling in the previously missing data. Once he told me what the issue was, I was able to go the website and add the missing data elements and the next time things moved properly.

The name on your Set Sail need to exactly match your passport. I ran into this issue where my middle name was missing on Royal side but is on my passport back in July. At check in they had to correct things in royal check in system to add my middle name. It never showed up on the SetSail but that ended up being a tip. It will not prevent boarding, just slow the process a minute or two. after that cruise I logged into Royal website and fixed my profile to add that additional data. When I checked in for Icon earlier this month the same issue did not recur.

Are multi-port usb chargers banned
donsullivan replied to PattyW's topic in Royal Caribbean International
I agree. The language seems to clearly state- No extension cords and nothing that adds additional A/C outlets to the room. adding USB ports doesn't seem to be an issue. Adding A/C outlets is what is creating the power overload problems. When you add A/C outlets, guests are plugging in more devices concurrently than the A/C power system in the room is capable of supporting. -

Unfortunately societies desire to overthink everything to find some way to take advantage will likely force RCL to modify the language to make it a little more precise to remove all opportunities for interpretation. Without that precision in the language, we'll see all the people 'interpreting' it to their advantage. I just use this and then occasionally need to plug in the iPad or laptop which both use the same power adapter and I'm good. Worked great for me on Icon last week and Utopia back in July. I used a max of 2 USB ports concurrently and everything was covered. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09W244BTQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 -
For us, Utopia is wasted on 3/4 night sailings
donsullivan replied to NickinNY's topic in Royal Caribbean International
And that makes total sense. I just get frustrated when some suggest that since it doesn't work for them, the option should not exist, or should be relegated to the older, smaller ships. -

As a Florida resident, I'm a big fan of this model since it allows me to catch a weekend getaway throughout the year and not be relegated to the older, smaller ships without all the more modern features. I don't have enough vacation time on my job (just started last year) so I can't just take multiple weeklong cruises each year. I was on the Inaugural and I've already booked Thanksgiving weekend because I only need to burn one vacation day. I'm really glad Royal is introducing more options for people who can't always take a full week. There are countless other opportunities for 7-day itineraries including Star being added late summer next year. It's nice to have new options and not have everything forced into a single model where you can only cruise if you take a 7-day cruise. I have a 7-day on Icon in September but that is my once a year 7-day cruise. With Utopia weekends I can get multiple of those in a year.
