  1. I'm sure the people at Royal are doing the best they can - they have limited info and little time.
  2. Post this on the Royal Caribbean board - lots of info there
  3. Do the reservations have assigned seats?
  4. Our son always loved the kids activities and couldn't wait to get to them. My husband and I had a "date" every night of the cruise! But - if for some reason your kids do not like the separate kids activities, there are lots of things to do on a ship at night. We see families playing games in the sports area at all hours. There are shows every night. Depending on the ship's schedule there are movies. Usually it's more of a problem getting everyone to agree on a single activity than it is finding something to do.
  5. @Capt_BJ I didn't start this thread but really appreciate all your info! I am interested in renting bicycles while at Port Canaveral. Do any companies have bikes at the cruise port? We are coming in on RCCL so we are not across the drawbridge.
  6. This is what bugged me - early reports made it sound like the child was in a children only area instead of a part of the ship where many people go. Lots of places on the ship require caution. To describe the accident as a children's area is very misleading.
  7. I have a bid on this trip - hopefully I will hear soon too!
  8. Well darn. Thanks for answering. We will likely have binoculars with us anyway so we'll see if we can catch some sightings in the less crowded areas
  9. Does anyone know if there is still a path through undeveloped areas on Coco Cay? I've seen some great old photos and posts on birdwatching and am hoping that can still be done. TIA
  10. Hoping this gets clarification as DH and I have no interest in paying to watch our 14yo in the water park
  11. HAL was our first cruise line and the one my DH and I like best. Our last cruise was on NCL and we were surprised at how well we transitioned to what we thought was a huge ship. Then Anthem docked next to us in Bermuda. DH and I thought it looked way too big but our son had stars in his eyes!
  12. We trade around who chooses the vacations. So sometimes he gets dragged to cathedrals in England, in return, we listen to his opinion on cruise ships.
  13. I'm afraid the teen wants ALL the "bells and whistles" but we may be able to satisfy him with just some. Are there things we should be sure not to miss?
  14. My family loves to cruise. Mom and Dad have been happiest on the smaller ships. Not really small, something around 2,500 passengers. But now our teenage son wants more. He's begging for our next cruise to be on Royal Caribbean. We look at these huge ships and wonder what's in store for us. Any advice?
  15. We just got back from a cruise to Bermuda. Lovely islands! I hope that works out for you.
  16. I'm a big believer in not rewarding bad behavior so I lean towards punishing MSC for their poor customer service. In my 50 plus years of experience as both a customer and worker in service industries, I find customer service flows from the top and companies that do it well do it well at all levels and companies with poor service in one area often have it in others. Do you want to spend hours on the phone again if you have a problem with this cruise? As to NCL - I've got a 50% satisfaction record with them. Hated the Breakaway (totally agree with Marine Mom that the layout is awful and the ship crowded), loved the Gem. So I can't give you great advice there. No matter what happens, I hope you end up with a terrific vacation. And while I appreciate your perspective in labeling this a first-world problem, it's your time and your money and you deserve to enjoy it to the max. There are lots of cruise options and every company out there should be working hard to make their line the one dedicated cruise fans like yourself choose. If they can't be bothered to work with you in making MSC your top choice, the heck with them. Lots of other ships in the sea.
  17. There wasn't a lot of traffic and there were two shuttles, each taking about 20 people. Mostly it was the luggage that slowed things down. At each end the driver parked and loaded or unloaded the bags. The drive time between the pier and the parking garage was a matter of minutes.
  18. Swing is swing style music and dance from the 30s and 40s. Great songs and terrific dancing. Get Down Tonight is all the hits from the 1970s. Lots of familiar songs, even TV theme songs. It's a lot of fun. Both shows had the audience on their feet applauding at the end.
  19. We left and returned on a Friday. We took the Norwegian Gem to Bermuda.
  20. Just wanted to share our Boston parking experience in case it helps other folks. We chose to drive to Boston the morning of our cruise and take advantage of the parking at the South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center. On both arrival and departure we had some (small) problems. Hopefully our experience can help you avoid the same! The instructions on the parking pass we printed out told us to present our paperwork to the attendant upon arrival. BUT - there was no attendant! We took a parking ticket from the automated machine at the entry gate and parked. After calling the information number we were told - no problem, see the attendant when you leave. Parking spots were plentiful and the shuttle came promptly. Getting to the ship was easy. When we returned, we had a long line to wait in to get the shuttle back to the garage. All told we waited about 45 minutes. It's not a long walk to the garage but a chilly rain convinced us not to try making the trip on foot. I don't know if walking would be an option for others. Back at the garage we followed the exit signs to the barrier and found that we could not scan the Q code which proved that we had pre-paid our parking. Luckily the intercom worked and we were able to summon help. After a 10 minute wait a young man came, glanced at our parking pass, and let us out. Overall the parking wasn't bad. It was just irritating that the system did not work as promised.
  21. My son went the first day, made some friends, and then went back to Entourage only a few times to play air hockey or meet friends. It seems to have been a popular spot for playing video games. We were happy to find that NCL has a 1am curfew for passengers under age 18. That saved us arguing about the time to return to the cabin!
  22. No tea on our two NCL cruises, though we love it on other ships. HAL does tea a couple of times each cruise. On the Queen Mary II we had it every day!
  23. Entourage schedule (not that the oh-so-cool teen we took with us would participate in ~shudder~ group activities!)
  24. Sorry about the crazy orientations. They are all right side up in the saved files! And I can't find anything in edit that would turn them 😞
