Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Have Carnivals ships been able to make stops at their islands recently that require tenders? I've heard that a number of cruises have not been able to make the stop due to rough seas. If they don't stop what do they typically do?
  2. You've all been so helpful. I do have a couple more questions. As I said earlier, it's been a long time since we cruised out of Charleston. We plan to drive there (from Charlotte) the day before. How is parking at the cruise terminal? I believe I read it's free with a handicap tag? My wife has one for her back. How is the terminal for check-in and embarking? Any suggestion on best times to get there? What time you can board? How long until you can drop carry-ons in room? OK, that's more than a couple questions.
  3. Thanks everyone. With all the little nuances between cruise lines and even ships within a cruise line, it's always helpful to check here at CC for the real scoop.
  4. Thanks everyone. I guess when one of your days isn't included in the drinks package for us a least that's a tipping point against buying it. Loud classic rock is ok for me, not sure of the others. I'm 64 and that's what I grew up on! Nice Serenity area sound sreally good.
  5. Thank you very much for answering my questions. Sounds good for us. I also read somewhere here that the drink package isn't usable on the private island?
  6. My wife an I are cruising on Sunshine Feb 12. Our last Carnival cruise was 10 years ago with our teen daughters. This time we'll be with my sister in law and brother in law. So a bit different as far as needs. We're the "experienced" cruisers since my wife and I have been on several cruises in the mean time with RCC and NCL. So a few questions: Is any kind of dress code enforced for "Elegant Night" or any other dining. We'll probably where khakis or nice jeans and a polo shirt. Neat, clean. Is that ok? Best places on Sunshine for evening entertainment. We're all in our sixties, so oldies, mellow classic rock and such are more our tastes. How's the Serenity area? Fairly quiet. We all have grandkids who we love dearly, but this will be our first time in ages to sit quietly and chat. Overall at that time of year, will it be packed? Mostly older or still a lot of kids running around? We don't mind some activity, it's fun, but I think we're missing spring breakers. I see there are new menus. How's the variety? We're not gourmet types so not overly needy. Finally, my brother in law hasn't had a drink in nearly 40 years. His wife enjoys some frosty drinks, beer, wine. Is there any way she could get the drink package and he not get it, or maybe just the soda/juice package? Thanks
  7. We just booked the Sunshine for mid-February. I notice that they have me for the late 8:15 dining time. We prefer to eat earlier. I don't see a way to change my time anywhere on the website. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. Saw plenty of non dress code attire in the main dining room (after first night). We did get a message the day before our dinner at Ocean Blue reminding us of the dress code.
  9. It is what it is. I’m sure most are having a good time
  10. Consider me to be making a judgement on value. And as to the cheerleader part, anyone who spends any time here knows there are those who defend their line of choice to the bitter end.
  11. Actually I did go to the meet and greet. I did walk up to the group of crew leadership and I did ask who could best answer a question about the port. They all pointed to the same man. I asked about the ports and about Carnival having two ships in etc. He’s the one who gave me the palms up. The. They all left rather than mingling.
  12. Actually I DID ask crew yesterday and got a palms up "we don't know". And isn't this Cruise Critic, note kiss the Cruislines butt.com? I'm letting people know of thse issues and letting them know that they can't rely on the cruiselines being forthright. It's a message board for information, not a Cruise line cheer squad.
  13. Why don’t the professsionals at the cruise line stop selling what they can’t provide?
  14. No not weather. It’s going to be beautiful. it’s simple but they sell you on something they can’t provide. Amber Cove holds two ships. It’s a Carnival port and they’ve had two ships scheduled there for weeks.. Taino Bay’s port has not been fixed or dredged or whatever since the accident there earlier this year. They know full well they aren’t going there yet but they let everyone play the “which port” game rather than telling us beforehand what the deal is.
  15. And it gets worse. Just announce that”due to unforeseen circumstances” we’re not going to Puerto Plata. So two ports we sign up for and we go to neither. And the “unforeseen”is total BS. They knew damn well we couldn’t go there so why sell the cruise. Shows cancelled, ports cancelled. Time to check out other lines.
