  1. Anyone have any opinion on which is better and why? It's me and my two daughters, and friend and her two daughters. Price difference is around 85 for the three of us. I've read reviews that say the food is not very good on the buffet, so thought the menu might be a better option, but not sure. And, any other thoughts on this excursion? It will be our first time here. Thought it would be less party atmosphere than Mr Sanchos but more for the kids than Nachi.
  2. At home, one a night about 3 nights a week. On the ship- all day, and never feel more than a buzz.
  3. we use packing cubes and can get a lot into a carry on, but my struggle is always packing to come home. I dont want to spend time rolling dirty clothes... we always struggled with having enough room to bring it off the boat. Last cruise we brought these laundry bags from columbia outlet that are water tight. we were able to hang them in the closet, then compress down to fit back in the luggage when we packed up. Webtravel with a carryon/backpack from ebags that really holds just as much as my large suitcase since there are no wasted spaces from the wheels.
  4. My husband loves Aberfeldy 18 and always gets this from the casino and the atrium bar. He drinks mostly scotch and discovered this one on a cruise and is now hooked but yes, there is a good scotch selection onboard and they usually do a scotch tasting in the fun shops that is very informational. He always likes attending and has gotten good deals on Aberfeldy to bring home.
  5. We are departing out of Ft Lauderdale in January going to Half Moon Cay and Cuba. I'm super excited, but we have only ever cruised out of Galveston. We will fly in a day early and most likely stay a day after. Any suggestions on fun/relaxing hotels? We typically stay at the San Luis in Galveston and love the pool and swim up bar there. It's heated and just a great start to our vacations. Thanks!

  7. My girls loved the pool at hotel gakvez. great location near pleasure pier and right by the water. the tremont doesnt have a pool, but you can use hotel galvez since they are sister properties.
  8. we book our hotel a few months prior to our cruise bc i want to be sure to get one of the hotels I like. My top choices all have parking and shuttles to the port- Hotel Galvez, San Luis, and Tremont are the three i have used.
  9. With our crazy busy schedules, we cant take 7 night cruises, so we do the 5 night, which for us is the same ports- Cozumel and Progresso. Each time. We have done different ships, and repeated ships. We are going on our 7th cruise and all have been 4 or 5 nights. So, that said- we obviously don't mind repeating. We have done the same excursion in Cozumel twice and I'd do it again. I like what I know. :) That said, we have never done an excursion in Progresso. I like to plan on staying on the boat one day, to enjoy the low key day. We have looked at booking longer cruises next summer when things slow down a little and still have planned to pick one day to not do an excursion. Sometimes we get off, go shopping, look around and then get back on, sometimes we don't even bother.
  10. Royal's drink package was very similarly priced on our RC cruise, (they offer lots of discounts/specials, etc that change the price) and it's unlimited per day. HOWEVER, I'd still chose Carnival's 15 a day limit. On RC, if a drink was more than 10-12, I can't remember the exact amount, we had to pay the difference. Which is fine, but just kind of annoying to me. With Carnival, I've never found the $50 drink, or even the new $20, so its one less thing to worry about. I also never hit 15. I think I hit 13 once. lol. I think all cruise lines are pretty much a wash on things like this- it's the squeezing of a balloon- unlimited drinks/lower price max, free drink package/higher cruise fare.... you just have to decide what is the best fit for you and your vacation.
  11. We always get it if we can, and will continue to. Especially when we cruise with our kids, it's just a little less waiting, which for us, equals a little more fun. We cruise for sea days, not really ports, so we dont spend much on excursions- spending the little extra on FTTF is worth it to us. But each traveler/family is different. We go to the port the day before and stay overnight. I like being able to check out and go straight to the port without having to wait around and kill time, I like being able to get on the boat a little sooner and I like being able to access our rooms to drop off our carry on. Would I cruise without it? ABSOLUTELY. The perks are very nice and worth it, but they dont make or break my cruise. But for us, it's worth it at the current price. If it gets any higher, I would have to rethink it. Especially on cruises without our kids.
  12. We prefer to cruise from Galveston (closest) so our options are more limited than some. We have only done on RC, and it was an older ship, a four night. It was fine. I loved their sushi place, didn't like their steakhouse or MDR. Missed Guys burgers A LOT. lol. One of the biggest things that I missed was how friendly the crew is on Carnival. They just weren't on RC. I spoke to one dealer about it at the casino on RC and she was surprised, said she has worked for both, prefers to work for RC. But she was one of the only friendly crew members we met, except for the waiter at the sushi place. Most were nice just not friendly. We keep coming back to Carnival because we love the alchemy bar, guys ,etc and it's easy and affordable for us and our family.
  13. I dont care about the ship coin, the ship bench, the behind the fun tour, etc. We never go to shows either. When we board, we go to our room (have FTTF) drop off carry on, head to the Lido for a Guys Burger and a fun ship. We like to do the steakhouse the first night, and we have pre-dinner drinks at the Alchemy. For our upcoming cruise- my priorities are to go to the comedy shows, piano bar, lay out on the serenity deck with a yummy drink, casino, and we spend a lot of time at the alchemy bar. Oh, and we eat at the sea day brunch each sea day. Everyone is different and really, each vacation may have different priorities. We dont care much about ports or excursions, we are really there to spend time relaxing and reconnecting. Life at home is crazy busy so we like the change of pace.
  14. One cruise we were not able to get it, but we have for our others four. Sometimes they really do sell out and don't open up more, but honestly, you just have to keep checking. When is your cruise? The one we were not able to get, we booked about 45 days out. Usually we book about six months or more out.
