  1. When we go to the beach on vacation, we leave nothing on the beach worth anything when we go in the water. I have one of those waterproof bags and keep it all with me. Funny, my Dad was a cop and I guess he instilled a sense of awareness that has served me well. Some may feel that I go a little “overboard”, but I rather be safe than sorry. I also own one of the PacSafe steel mesh bags that I can lock to a tree, chair, etc when needed. It’s more of a deterrent. If someone wants something, they will try to get it. I just won’t make it easy for them.
  2. I own quite a bit of Scottevest clothing. Especially their vests. I like their Featherweight vest. Lots of inside pockets. My husband swears by their pants as well. Makes me feel much safer with my money and credit cards inside the vest than an outside pocket. i also carry a cross chest bag made by Travelon. It has little clips to hold zippers closed and wire through the strap and cannot be sliced through easily, and slash resistant material.
  3. I am from NY as well, and I know we tend to walk around with a heightened sense of awareness that may not always be the case if you are from a different state. that being said, I would google the term “pickpocket in Italy” and look at the videos. They definitely give you an idea of what to look out for.
  4. I guess we will really play it by ear that day weather wise. If if not a good beach day I think Herculaneum might be our other choice. Close by, and looks to be extremely interesting and yet a little different than Pompei
  5. This trip is just my husband and myself. We are taking our children next year, (they have only been to Baltic area), and we will bring them to Pompei, so we don’t really want to do anything similar this trip. would love to take a swim if possible, as this is really the southernmost port that we do not have something scheduled in, and hope it will be the warmest water, beach opportunity this year.
  6. We have been to Naples a few years ago, did Pompei, Amalfi Coast, Sorrento. And taking our adult children next year. So don’t want to repeat it this time. this will also be the earliest we will be in Italy having done mid October cruising. we were hoping to possible take a nice beach day, and take a dip (even if it is a little cold) and weather permitting. We will be in Naples on October 2nd. anyone know of a good place to go?
  7. Ummm. Wasn’t it? And I was thinking, I’d like to know about a good drinking establishment. Always nice to try the local offerings. 😂

    Italian trains

Yes, and I am trying Trenitalia to Florence, and Italo Florence to Rome, to try both out!

    Italian trains

I get emails from Italo with discount codes. You may want to check them out. funny, I get the emails in Italian, so I had to use google translate, but this is the info, and I believe they have a direct train from Venice to Rome. It's not yet time to return! Travel with discounts up to -30%. Travel with Italo and save up to -30%. Buy a ticket before 09/09 using the promo code RETURN and travel from September 24th to December 14th.
  10. This is wonderful! We board October 1st at Civitavecchia and end in Venice. With a lot of the same stops. Thanks for being so descriptive!
  11. I am booked with a big box travel agent and still get emails from Celebrity for their Move Up program.
  12. Have an October 1, 2019 sailing on Constellation, so it’s before the refurb
  13. Thank you. Ill wait until I’m on an S Class then. Appreciate your help.
  14. No one? I can’t believe it! 😮
  15. Anyone been in QSine specifically on the Constellation? videos online show QSine as having interactive screens on their tables and make it look like little people are walking around on the table etc. but is that on the Constellation or another ship? we could get a discount for the first evening, and I would love to if it will be like the videos online. Anyone with first hand knowledge?
  16. We used GUIDE-GURU and I can’t say enough about them. We had a private Mercedes van for the four of us. They picked us up, took us everywhere. We had a driver and a tour guide, who spoke perfect English and took us into places before they even opened. We were in the Hermitage before everyone. When we walked out, the line of people to enter was hours long. we rode the subway and the driver was there to get us at the next stop. We were able to shop if we saw something and not feel that we were holding anyone up. We saw the big cruise groups with their headsets and long bathroom breaks and they looked miserable. We were able to decide that we were done seeing paintings and gold rooms 😊, and were able to move quickly. But we also learned so much with the one on one and able to get a better feel for life in Russia. the two days we spent was half the price of the cruise lines price and included everything!
  17. How were they? Did you feel like it was too many people? So used to 8 or less
  18. You’d think so, but no. I started a Chat, and they couldn’t tell me. Gave me an email address to send questions to (shorex@rccl.com). So I am looking at all the ones I may be interested in and sending an email later.
  19. Have some shipboard credit to use, and usually do excursions on our own or with small group from cruise critic. so, anyone have knowledge of Celebrity’s “Small Group” size when it comes to excursions? Looking at at this one at the moment (The Ruins Of Herculaneum - Small Group)
  20. OMG, thank you so much! Just booked this. It is the perfect solution, now I don’t have to stress it! Paid and chose our seats. I had no idea there were direct trains. So much less expensive than flying too!
  21. Thank you Looking at booking through ITALO instead. Since we are traveling to Florence, it is similar to using Trenitalia, but following ITALO on Facebook, they have a coupon right now. And they have good reviews and newer trains. I think we will probably go with the 15:45 train, just in case. We have an Airbnb close to Firenze SMS, so that helps!
  22. Hello all! For this trip, we are flying direct from JFK to FCO, and intend on collecting our luggage, and catching train to Roma Termini station (how long does this train take?) and then taking high speed train to Florence for 3 days before our cruise out of Civitavecchia. My question is, how much time should I give myself to do all that? Want to book our train, while discount train rates are still available. Our flight arrives on a Saturday, September 28th at 12:10pm. What would be a feasible time to get to Roma Termini? These are trains I was looking at: 14:15, 14:45, 15:15 or 15:45 Thanks!
  23. I know, we were quite frankly pleasantly surprised about it. But glad to have it as well, because we were also stuck in an unexpected port for a few days and missed some places we really wanted to see (Florence, Pisa, Portofino) but horrible storms kept us there. Then our ship broke loose and hit the Costa Magica docked next to us. It was crazy weather. Land slides in Italy and France. But we loved the Aqua cabin (like spa cabin) so much, we booked again for this year (a few weeks earlier) hopefully avoiding weather issues. It’s a crap shoot really though.
  24. We cruise Celebrity in Europe, usually a more port intensive cruise. But amazingly, yes, Celebrity had things going on until about 1am. We enjoyed the silent disco too. And dancing with different style of music as well and shows and Trivia. Royal we tend to do more of the Caribbean type, although we did Baltic and were also quite happy with their nightlife. Having always heard of the Fun Ship name, I was just very surprised about the lack of things to do late night.
