  1. Not a river cruise. Something like Seabourn, SilverSea, Regent, or Sea Dream Yacht Club. On the surface they might look more expensive but when you put in all of the things they include that you have to pay for, even in the ship in a ship areas, on a mass market line and where they go, the cost difference is not so much.
  2. None of them are worth the money. Just go on a luxury line with under 500 people if you are going to pay that much.
  3. The only thing I really miss with once a day cabin service is not having an idea of when your steward is coming. If s/he hasn’t been there it makes it hard to take an afternoon nap. The rest is no big deal to me.
  4. The Aloft near the seaport is nice. Rooms are plenty spacious for two people. Easy Uber to the port. They serve breakfast, just not free. We enjoyed it the time we stayed there and it was an easy walk to the seaport, albeit uphill on the way back.
  5. Everyone calls it a donkey path, it’s not. It is a walkway that is paved with stones. Google it for some photos of what it looks like. It is however a place where mules walk and the last time I looked they weren’t toilet trained. You just need to watch your step.
  6. Been to Opatija once. Very picturesque, don’t recall a lot to do there but the gardens are stunning.
  7. It will come a time when the total passenger load allowed will be capped at 7500 people, it won’t matter how big the ships are.
  8. It doesn’t smell awful on the donkey trail, it smells like a farm.
  9. Even having a schedule by Sept 21 is no assurance that things won’t change drastically before you sail.
  10. Do you think they order some filets for each restaurant? Of course not! They order a whole bunch of filet beef and each restaurant grabs theirs for the day out of storage and cuts it and prepares it. It is the luck of the draw as to whose is better on a given day.
  11. I have never seen a mass market cruise ship where age is catching up, other than the decor might be date. There is no difference in ship upkeep from the oldest to the newest ship in the fleet. You like the small ships which means to me that the bells and whistles don’t matter. keep in mind that Sea Dream Yacht Club a truly 5 star line, that charges 5* prices, only has 2 ships that almost always sail full and they were built in 1984 and 1985. Age doesn’t have anything to do with quality.
  12. Just know that at TYS giving yourselves 2 hours is plenty of time. It’s such an easy airport to fly from. Not like the big ones so many talk about.
  13. It used to teach college level introductory computer courses. Ewing a techie has nothing to do with age. With a lot of kids if it’s not Instagram, Twitter (X) or TicTok, young people are more clueless than older ones.
  14. Just fly out of TYS. Don’t fool with the drive. Leave your car at home because of the parking construction and take an Uber. BTW at TYS 90 minutes for any kind of flight is more than enough. The times you hear about are for big airports not one with 12 gates total. BTW ATL is further than that because it is on the south side of town. BNA might be a little shorter because it is on the east side of town. Still neither is worth the drive and parking costs.
  15. I really like Legal Seafood. Legalseafoods.com.
  16. OP didn’t say they booked hotel through Celebrity, just that was who they are cruising on. If they booked through the cruise line you are right but I can almost 100% guarantee you that the difference is >15%
  17. If thinking about going up,into Canada make sure you have passports AND make sure the road has reopened.
  18. Look at something like booking.com or hotels.com that should help you on the costs issue. Don’t stay near downtown, the port, South Beach or Brickell. You may have higher transportation costs but you can probably get your hotel costs down where you want them. Near the airport usually is relatively inexpensive.

    Tendering in Sitka

Hope that you tender. You will go right to downtown and everything is an easy walk from there.
  20. Currently, NCL provides the best value for solo cruisers. No one else comes close unless they are running a 0% single supplement which sometimes happens on the luxury lines.
  21. Doubt you see any ship decorated prior to US Thanksgiving.
  22. Your best bet for the second day is to look at something like hotelsbyday.com or a similar website or just pay for two nights and come and go at your leisure.
  23. Check your bags in Anchorage, tagged for your cruise ship cabin and the next place you see them will be on the ship. Take as little as possible on the train, storage space in the cars is very tight.
