  1. The Doge's Palace is extraordinary. The Secret Rooms tour is a must see but you need advanced tickets. Some things you can do without advance planning: You can take the elevator to the top of the Campanile. The view is extraordinary. Right next to the Campanile is the oldest cafe in Europe, the Florian. Great desserts, You can order anything from coffee to a bottle of Dom Perignon.
  2. I too have never heard of this and for health reasons I'm sure they will never do this. The Steak Florentine USE to be huge, just like in Tuscany. Post COVID, they have reduced the size of the cut.
  3. The Chilean Fjords expedition cruise is a leg of the repositioning between the Northern Hemisphere and Antarctica. It occurs twice a year for two ships so only 4 sailings a year. If you book it at the right time, it's usually heavily discounted with free air, stateroom upgrade, and if you are lucky, free SSP. Antarctica seemed a little too extreme for us and this cruise was the sweet spot. Patagonia is beautiful and we had some amazing wildlife encounters as well as watching glaciers calving. Trip of a lifetime. Oh, it's on sale now... https://www.viking.com/reservations/start?voyageType=expedition&cruiseId=Q2hpbGVhbiBGam9yZHMgJiBTY2VuaWMgU2hvcmVz&sc=vxp&country=US&originCountry=US&office=US&currency=USD&voyageName=Q2hpbGVhbiBGam9yZHMgJiBTY2VuaWMgU2hvcmVz&promoCode=CSA24&cid=EML|AJO|999|Email+-+240711_vxp_csa24&utm_source=email&utm_medium=AJO&utm_content=Email+-+240711_vxp_csa24&correlationId=d5ba48eb-f9e9-45bb-869b-6461b12bfd94-0
  4. She'll love Honfluer, so many quaint little shops to explore and the Eugène Boudin Museum is worth a visit. https://about-france.com/towns/honfleur.htm
  5. Yes, your tour is slightly different. By the description you end up at Covent Garden for shopping. We took this as part of the Oxford extension. It sounds identical except we were headed to Oxford for the night so no stop at Covent Garden. One great thing I learned from this trip was the location of a free public bathroom and cafeteria right across the street from Westminster Abbey. We’ve been to London a few times since and always utilize it. 😆
  6. No they are different. The Houses of Modernism tour goes inside two of his iconic houses Casa Vicens and Casa Batlló. Maybe it’s not offered on your sailing. Casa Vicens is a privileged access tour and you arrive before opening for coffee and snack on the terrace, then Viking is the first group to enter. No crowds and great for pictures.
  7. Actually the steward showed me the trick. The line works like Venetian blinds cord. You tug it at an angle and it locks in place. Maybe the screw is part of this.
  8. I have a feeling these discounts might have been part of the post-COVID “welcome back” promotions. I personally have never seen any.
  9. No. I believe only ES have them. There is a retractable close line in the shower and with heated floors things dry fast in the bathroom. For bathing suits there is a small “spinner” in the spa locker rooms to remove most of the water.
  10. You never signed out. This is apparently because the sessions are not timing out. I saw the same thing days ago. I was able to connect the next day with no login. If you don’t sign out the session remains open. Normally the site sets some reasonable session time out period. They have either set it too high or not at all. A zero timeout value is infinity. As I said in a previous post, the number of sessions is not unlimited. Each session takes server resources and when the max sessions is reach, connections will be denied. Eventually it may crash the site. Also, this is a huge security hole since the session has already been authenticated and is past that layer of security. Always log out. It could be the “maintenance” was really a crash that was caused by too many sessions. If not fixed, it eventually will crash.
  11. I saw someone state that since they wait 15-20 minutes to cancel no shows, go down at quarter pass or quarter before the hour and you might get right in.
  12. Far Eastern Horizons is all Japan except for two stops, Taipei and Hong Kong.
  13. They just invented a new AirPod with a string attached so you don’t lose them..
  14. On the iPhone/iPad select the photo, tap edit, then tap on the Crop icon. All the options are available in the Crop window.
  15. Everyone should carry their own adapter
  16. They already have earbuds for the QuietVox
  17. Yes. It appears they are keeping the session open indefinitely. I never logged out last night and needed no authentication to log back in. I just logged out and now need to re-authenticate. This is a time bomb. Session timeout should be set relatively low. It was at least 8 hours for me and counting. If sessions aren’t closing they will eventually run out and lock up the website. There is a finite number that can be open, even with session sharing techniques. Tick tick tick… Leaving sessions open indefinitely is a potential major security risk. It’s lazy programming. This smacks of outsourcing to the 3rd world.
  18. Interesting. MVJ is no longer requiring me to enter my email. I just go to the website and it opens with no authentication. Maybe they have saved a cookie that allows you back on for X period of time or may they disabled MFA? This is very weird. I went from MFA to no authentication.
  19. We are doing a Viking southern coast excursion from Reykjavik. It’s an all day trip. From MVJ: Rugged Landscapes, Waterfalls and Geologic Museum Discover the majestic beauty of Iceland’s remote south coast. Embark your motor coach for a scenic ride along the rugged coastline, passing a panorama of looming mountains, glaciers and lava fields. Head along the Hellisheidi mountain road and through the charming villages that dot Iceland’s rich farmland region. Stop and marvel at Seljalandsfoss, a towering waterfall fed by the famous glacier-capped Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Enjoy lunch, then continue to the Skógafoss waterfall; depending on the weather, you may be able to see a single or double rainbow encircling the cascade. At Reynisfjara, explore and photograph the mesmerizing black-sand beach and basalt sea stacks that tower above the waves offshore. At the Lava Center, examine exhibits on Iceland’s geology and geothermic activity before returning to your ship.
  20. We switched from Verizon a couple of months ago when our bill went up 20% without notice. They started billing a 5G surcharge per line even though one of the phones is not 5G capable. Will be trying T-Mobile for the first time internationally in a couple of weeks.
  21. No. It depends on your plan. The low cost plans will pay the most for international coverage.
  22. You should include FaceTime in that. It seems to be an annoying trend in public areas. Any video streaming should be avoided. I also turn off synching my photos to the cloud. I take a memory stick to back up photos, especially the large video files.
  23. I’m definitely passing on the shark. I’ve seen the videos. They fooled me once with Vegemite. Fool me twice? No way. This begs the question. What do foreigners think the weirdest thing Americans eat? And don’t say hot dogs because they are just another form of sausage.
