Thank you for the links.Hmmm - the entire point of Tapatalk and it's ilk is to make using fora on small phone screens easier. Have you tried simply using your brower to open CC directly? All of the changes which caused so many complaints were done to make it easier to use on mobile devices - you might find the 'new native environment' easier to use than your app...West Coast and Canada/Pacific boards both have frequent posts about Vancouver hotels, things to do etc. just browse the first page or two. Alaska board does too - but you're already here since that's where you posted! There's also one specifically-all-about-Vancouver thread which I'll link directly to the most recent posts: here.

I'm not very good using the Tapatalk app on my phone. I'm trying to search for hotels and things to do in Vancouver before or after our cruise. I've tried typing in Vancouver hotels in the search engine and get some weird stuff. Any help or links from this amazing Cruise Critic group would be most appreciated.

I'm thinking about booking a cruise on the Volendam. I understand they have a self serve laundromat. Can you buy detergent on board? Do they also offer the $20 bag to send out?

I called HAL today to get a price to Alaska next summer without Explorer4 . It was only $200 less and I has to book it with a non-refundable deposit. Has anyone else experienced this?Ask HAL to give you a price WITHOUT Explore4, as it might surprise you. I saved $1000 pp this way. It is a little discussed (except on these boards) option that your TA and/or HAL has.Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Does this ship have self service laundry or do you send it out for them to do?

We were on the starboard side last year. Great views of little islands and float planes leaving and landing while in Sitka and Ketchikan. Very relaxing instead of watching people coming and going from the ship.

We were on starboard side when in Sitka and Ketchikan. The view was spectacular. There were islands jutting out of the water and lots of float planes flying around. Loved the scenery.

If you've never been to Mendenhall Glacier, I'd say it's worth seeing. I have some really great pictures of the glacier.

I sailed to Alaska this summer and never saw anyone offered a towel, hot drink or water. You could buy water when you were getting off the ship.

I thought soda and water counted towards the 15 drink limit.

We were on our first cruise on her July 9th. I didn't know what to expect but most things were very nice. Had a problem with the toilet not flushing all but one day of the cruise. After I called it was fixed pretty quickly, just annoying. Not a fan if MDR. I had a tough steak the one night we ate there and preferred the Lido. Great salads in the Lido. Glad we had a balcony so we didn't miss any views from our room.

We had a balcony in July on our Alaskan cruise. It was the first time we cruised and absolutely loved the balcony. It was too cool and windy to sit on the balcony while the ship was moving but was wonderful for Glacier Bay and while in ports. I would pay the extra for a balcony again.

Went on our first cruise last month to Alaska. Used our balcony to watch pulling into a port and leaving a port; when we returned early to the ship after an excursion and all day in Glacier Bay. We had really good weather in July in Alaska.

Yes there is a HAL excursion. I did not pre-book because I wanted to use my OBC. I had no problem getting tickets for an early show.

Ketchikan is where the Lumberjack show is. Juneau is a good place for whale watching and seeing Mendenhall glacier. You can do both in Juneau on same excursion.

If your CARD IS THE CHASE VISA UNITED MILEAGE PLUS YOU DO HAVE TRIP CANCELLATION, TRIP INTERRUPTION AND A FEW OTHER INS COVERAGES BUT NO MEDICAL INS. WE HAVE THE SAME CARD.
I have the Southwest Chase Visa. I called Chase to see if this card gave me any trip insurance. They said no.

Does this card have an annual fee? Is it part of any rewards programs? I have a Chase card associated with an airline that I get miles for but it doesn't have travel insurance.

I was in the same situation last month. The questionnaire asks about your arrangements when you get back to seattle. I too wanted to get off late but was assigned 8:30. I think they are trying to get everyone off by 9 am. When we got off there were people outside waiting to get into the terminal to get on the next cruise.

Great video. Wish I had thought to take a video when I was there last month. I just took still pictures.

I bought a coke there last month.

I would like to buy an ulu as a thank you for the person who is watching our house for us while we are on the cruise. Is this something that you have to 'check' with the cruise ship(turn over possession) and have returned at the end of the cruise, or can it be taken directly to your stateroom?
I bought 2 in the ship's store and nothing was said about holding them for us. Also bought one in Ketchikan. Nothing was said about bringing that one aboard the ship.

We sailed out of Seattle a couple weeks ago because I didn't want to hassle with customs in Vancouver. But I did get a little sea sick on the first sea day out of Seattle.

No, not at all. The price for my explore 4 was exactly the same as when I booked it a few months ago. For me the Explore 4 is free. The $800 OBC from the travel agent was just a bonus from them for transferring the booking to them. I also have some HAL credit and a shareholder credit...those will have to be used onboard or forfeited.
What type of cruise gives you this large of OBC? Do you think you would have gotten this much OBC if you initially booked with a TA instead of transferring? Just curious. I just got $200 from my TA and some add'l from HAL for Explore 4.
