  1. Thanks for the detailed information on seated dining areas. I'm actually more interested in maximum occupancy planning in bars, atriums, buffets, sundecks, designated smoking areas, etc. The areas that on occasion get exceptionally crowded and people can barely move due to crowds.
  2. That is perfect!!! Thanks so much for finding this for me. Wondering if anyone thinks that cruise lines design and assign square footage to spaces based on the anticipated number of passengers using those areas? Or is an occupancy standard not a consideration?
  3. Thanks spookwife . . . looking for standards such as those that apply to businesses on land. Example: https://legalbeagle.com/6306392-calculate-maximum-occupancy-room.html
  4. Thanks for the information! I'm actually more interested in specific spaces (atrium, buffet, bars, sundecks, etc.) that don't have a method to control the number of passengers in an area based on seating capacity, such as the dining rooms and theater.
  5. Hi Everyone, I am wondering if anyone knows whether cruise ship spaces have maximum occupancy requirements based on square footage? If so, what is the standard? Thanks so much!
  6. Any 2019 updates to the spreadsheet? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing
  7. Hi All, Thanks so much for the updated information regarding the Breakaway and Star. I have updated my spreadsheet. However, I will not be following or monitoring this thread anymore due to how old it is and the fact that so many of the comments are off topic/purpose. Please post any updated facts on the designated smoking areas to this thread:
  8. Loved to hang out at Maltings (outside) and Shakers (inside) on the Breakaway, mainly due to the comfortable seating. The Escape just felt more crowded to me. It also seemed to have used more seating that was bar height. Something that is difficult and uncomfortable for shorter, older people. Even the sofa's and regular chairs in the District Brew were uncomfortable. Then there was the fact that there was only two outdoor designated smoking areas and neither was covered or had enough seating, much less comfortable seating. That sealed the deal for me. I guess that on the Breakaway, I felt like the ship's furnishings and designated spaces tended to make people feel comfortable and enjoy their "home away from home". The Escape just felt like a tourist trap to me, one where tourists comforts and needs were ignored.
  9. Curious to know which ships cruise critic members have cruised on and that one time was more than enough? I have only sailed on NCL’s Breakaway and Escape. I loved the Breakaway (5 cruises) but our most recent cruise on the Escape was a one and done for me. I am booked on the Bliss next year and hoping I like the feel of that ship better than the Escape.
  10. Thanks so much! I have updated the spreadsheet to include your information. It is very much appreciated! Do you know if the Vibe still has a designated smoking area? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing
  11. Hi, wondering if you could update where the designated smoking areas are now on the Getaway for my spreadsheet? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing Also, could you elaborate on NCL's new smoking restrictions since their policy has not been updated in close to 5 years on the NCL website. Thanks so much!
  12. Please find or create another thread for these types of comments . . . Thanks so much!!! 🤞🙏
  13. Thank you for the updated information! I have made the change: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing
  14. Any recent cruisers that can verify or correct the spreadsheet?https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE
  15. Hi All, I have crowd sourced a spreadsheet for designated smoking areas on NCL ships and I need assistance to keep it current. Anyone with recent information and/or corrections for the spreadsheet, please post here. Thanks so much! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing FYI, this thread is not for discussing the pros and cons of smoking, opinions or experiences. Please find or create another thread for those discussions!!! 🤞👍
  16. Just wondering if anyone has recent information to update the spreadsheet for the cruise critic community: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing
  17. If anyone has more recent information or finds inaccurate information on the spreadsheet, please let me know! This document https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing is being crowd sourced so it is only as good as the information that is shared. ;)
  18. You might want to ask this question on the casinos forum. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=586
  19. I do think that NCL needs to establish a target ratio for the anticipated # of smokers based on passenger capacity to the # of unrestricted designated smoking areas. I don't know why the policy doesn't establish a minimum standard, for example: NCL will accommodate its smoking policy with a minimum of 1 enclosed indoor space (Humidor), 1 sundeck space & 1 covered outdoor space on every ship with additional unrestricted designated smoking areas to be added based on the target ratio. Right now NCL has a ratio anywhere from 76 (Sky) to 301 (Bliss) with the majority of ships (8) in the 100 - 125 ratio range. It looks like it would be very easy to establish a target and standard based on current information. NCL just needs to become more deliberate in their decision making, while providing the flexibility to make adjustments as data changes. A target ratio and a minimum standard, would help in the process. Generally speaking, it is very difficult to garner adherence to a policy (not just this one) if there is inconsistency in the application or a lack of a minimum standard. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing
  20. The post you are quoting is 3.5 years old. That was right after new smoking policies were implemented (November 2014) and has no relevance to current practices almost 4 years later. I suggest everyone disregard information/posts over 6 months old on this topic since the designated smoking areas/policies are fluid. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing
  21. Thanks njkate for the confirmation on these designated smoking areas. Everyone, I am looking for updates on the forward open access designated smoking areas, specifically just outside the Vibe/Posh partition on ships with Vibe/Posh. I also want to make sure the spreadsheet is accurate on designated smoking areas within Vibe/Posh because that area has an additional fee. I believe the spreadsheet information is pertinent to that purchase decision. Hopefully someone else will be able to confirm or update on those. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing
  22. Thanks for the update! It has been noted. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing Also, thanks to the moderators for deleting posts that don't help with keeping the spreadsheet current :D(y)
  23. Just wanted to reiterate that this thread is for locating designated smoking areas on each NCL ship. Non-smokers benefit from the spreadsheet as well because they can use this information if they would like to avoid the designated smoking areas. I am asking that everyone please refrain from comment unrelated to the data gathering for the spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing Just to let everyone know, I intend to stop updating the spreadsheet if this thread keeps getting off topic posts that don't help with the data gathering. I have no desire to read through those posts  in order to find the ones I actually need for the spreadsheet.
  24. If you are a non-smoker, the Bliss should be your go to NCL ship over all others. If you are a smoker, do not under any circumstances book a cruise on the Bliss! The Bliss only has 1 very small, unprotected from the elements, designated smoking area. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IwhHuxFGVf8GRxIe1V30Bj0elmkPLRuQUxOpmI8LiFE/edit?usp=sharing passengers per DSA.pdf
