  1. :)

You're gonna watch 3 days of sailboat racing and you're concerned that the cruise ship might be boring?

    Huh.

:D The sailing doesn't last that long. But this event is huuuuuuge as Trump would say. There's a lot of hoopla that surrounds it and lots going on there where we dock. Stuff is being built specifically for it. Will be exciting....I promise.

  2. Going to see the race Dawn was also the better choice over Breakaway because Dawn docks at Kings Wharf. The America's Cup Village is the next thing south that dock and the race course will also end close to the south end of King's Wharf. Summit docks at King's Wharf and I had great views of the practice runs last June. Breakaway docks at Heritage Wharf which I don't think will have those great views from the ship.

I took this photo from the aft of Summit docked at Kings Wharf.

Saw your pic. My dh is beyond excited to watch it! He regretted on going to San Fran to see the last one. Looks like a beautiful place. Never been to Bermuda.

  3. Thank you all again for your responses....

Yes, half the time off the ship. This is very different and will go in it with that attitude. Any cruise can't be bad. Though I'm used to the large ships, a change isn't bad either. This won't be my last cruise and will make the most of it! Good to hear some really enjoyed her.

I was looking at specialty restaurants...the Mexican one, steak house and the one where they cook in front of you....thoughts on those?

  4. Thanks for your responses. I'm trying to have a good attitude. But knowing I love the large ships with all the bells and whistles, it's a bit of a challenge. But this is the only ship that will give us those 3 days to watch the America's Cup. I know this is not my last cruise.

We'll have a great 3 days in Bermuda and make the most of our other days at sea. Knowing my dh won't cruise without his flowrider, I think it will be more of a challenge for him. Wishing the breakaway would have worked, but it didn't.

It's a cruise, and better than being home! But I found this date on this ship is so much more money than we normally spend! And we cruise on the large ships on Royal...oh well.

I'll bring a good book to read by the pool :D

  5. Cruising on the Dawn in May. We always cruise on the larger ships....mostly Royal. We've cruised many times as well. Looking at the deck plans, it doesn't look like theres much to do. There's an event in Bermuda that's going on. The Dawn will be work best for that. Reason we choose it.

Opinions of those that have been on her and the eatery recommendations would be very appreciated. Any shows to see?

    Thanks so much!

  6. Visit the NCL website and look for DECK PLANS !

In using the DECK PLANS orientate the elevators and/or stairs for better

reference to "X" you are here !

Take a look at the deck plans and see almost exactly where your intended

cabin selection is going to be relative to the deck (12) above - deck 10 below

is all cabins nothing to worry about there - back to deck 12 what is above the

cabin you are thinking of booking - Buffet; Pool deck; elevators; stairs; points

of traffic passageways ? Consider that unless the cabin you are selecting is

an IC (inside cabin) (there are no (OV) Ocean View on deck 11) you are going

to be on the perimeter edge of the DAWN with very little if any traffic overhead.

IC cabins may be just under or adjacent to a noisy area.

The center of the ship is where the galley; engineering; maintenance; elevators

banks both customer and crew are located.

The running jogging track is on deck 13 - so no problemo in that respect.

Like real estate - Location Location Location is where it is at for moving efficiently

about the ship and staying in a rather leisure noise free zone.

Of note cabins near the elevator foyers maybe apt to noise from passing

    foot traffic.

On your first cruise you will be so excited that you will probably overlook all

the faults of some locations. On that first cruise ask questions of your cabin

neighbors - did you hear that noise last night - and those drunks knocking

on the doors - someone had a maintenance cart with squeaky wheels - you

get the idea to make a better choice on your next cruise.

The sooner you book you will be making a better pick of location. Wait till the

last moment and of course you get what is left.

If you make a bad choice and want to change - beware that you do not fall

into the CANCELLING and REBOOKING your cabin (Trap) resulting in loss or

reduction of OBC; Promos and other bennies ! Should not happen exchanging

like for like - going to an upgraded or lesser cabin could trigger this and avoid

changes within 90 days of sailing.

Best get the facts and in writing before changing !

And as usual come back to CC for more info should you need it !

This is cruise 13 for us...but never on this ship or line. I booked a cabin on 11 and looked exactly where we'll be compared to above. I think we'll be ok...hoping the extra room with the mini suite is worth it. Normally we book cabins above and below us for the noise factor. 11 is the only deck for the mini suites I think...thanks for your input

  7. I have been on the Getaway and Royal ships. The Dawn will be much different then the Breakaway. Smaller, not as much to do and older (though it was refurbed). I would rather go on Breakaway with my tween especially with 3 sea days. If just adult though you should be ok.

I agree. The Dawn does the Friday to Friday which gives us three full days of watching the America's Cup. Have to decide if I can do this. Knowing I'm not going to be happy with the ship....but it's about seeing the AC

  8. Every day on a cruise ship is a good day!

You can go to the Royal board and find endless threads complaining about the Allure of the Sea and Oasis class ships. Do you agree with all of the negative threads.

Same here. Some people just don't like the big ships. We have sailed on NCL's away and epic class ships 12 times (NCL's big ships). They are all wonderful. But,,, they have some of the "challenges" of big ships. Some shows require reservations. Non-complimentary restaurants require reservations. But there is lots to do and see and enjoy.

I like the larger ships better. So if the Breakaway is considered a large one, than I should be fine. Just didn't want to hear that this is a very unpopular ship that has many bad reviews.

    Thanks for your reply!

  9. Cruised many times on Royal. Our fav is the Oasis class. Thinking about a cruise to Bermuda, and this is the ship that works for that event we want to see there. Don't want to be horribly disappointed. Wishing it could be a Royal ship. I've read some bad things about one of NCL's ships and hoping this isn't the one.

Can someone that's been on the larger Royal ships and NCL give me their thoughts on NCL?

    Thanks so much!

  10. Been on the Crown and Navigator class....For me, hands down the Navigator. I don't like Princess cabins. Layout seems like they're so small. Bathrooms tiny. Much older crowd as well. Unless I get an incredible deal, we don't cruise on Princess anymore.

  11. I recommend booking your entertainment before the cruise. If there's any show you didn't get in because it's "full", book as soon as you board. They hold so many seats for people that book when they board. They have always scanned our sea pass before going in. You have until I think 10 min prior to the show starting to get your saved seat. The comedy shows were always sold out on ours. They have people in line for the no shows. Those were always filled up and some didn't get in. Luckily, they have more than one show.
