Used to cruise on Carnival. Depending on the Royal ship, I feel it's a nice balance of younger and older. I wouldn't generalize Royal of being an older crowd. When we went on the Oasis, besides our Disney cruise, we've never seen so many kids! I feel Royal has a nice balance of fun and class. To me, Princess was an older crowd. Carnival is a bit too much party ship for me. Though if the price was right and itinerary, I wouldn't be against trying the new Carnival Vista is it? Would take a lot since we love Royal so much. I don't see us going anywhere else.
But it's nice everyone has so much to choose from. What's good for one maybe not for another.

Also, depending on time of the year, you may be able to get a discount thru valuetrips.com...I paid 99.00 for our upcoming trip in September.
If you don't stay there, as we always do, there's Embassy Suites across the street I've heard good things about. Don't think they have free shuttle from the airport??? Depends on what's important to you. But 17th street location is great.

We always stay and love the location! Places in theatric mall Come and go. Heard there's a pretty good one in there currently. Very convenient with the grocery store across the street. They just call a cab for us. They have a shuttle u have to pay for now. Have to sign up and the eArlier times to go book quickly. We always leave about 10. Enjoy... The port is close!

For us, we never did until they were old enough to remember and enjoy it. Too much work for me. I'd rather go and totally relax. This is what a vacation is all about.

She would love the Allure!

Another vote for Royal

In Atlanta a few years back, the dog alerted to a woman near us at baggage claim. She denied having anything several times. Finally admitted having two apples. Last we saw she was headed to an office with several agents.
Risk getting in trouble over a few apples?!

They saved on the drink package not the cruise.
Wow... Saw the 800.09 and figured cruise. Didn't think people spend that much for just drinks! [emoji50]

Lol on "Wal-mart of the Seas"! Carnival Jubilee in March 2003 was my first cruise ever. I did have fun, but you are spot-on! After that cruise, I decided cruising just wasn't for me. It would be another 10 years before I step foot on a cruise ship again.
In 2013, My friend was getting married on a Royal Caribbean ship so we were allowed to board just for the wedding. I was so impressed with Royal Caribbean that we decided to give cruising another try. After a short trip on Majesty of the Seas, we were hooked. Now, I try to take a cruise every summer. If it wasn't for that wedding, I would have been turned off of cruising forever!
Of course I realize that I should probably give Carnival another chance. It was a long time ago and a lot has changed. But, any cruise is expensive for my family of 5 and I just don't want to risk it. I am happy with Royal, so I'm sticking with them for now.
If you ever try Carnival again, stay away from the old ships... JMO : )

Thought there would be a large penalty to cancel and rebook this late?

Many other threads on this topic. You can do a search at the top. It's subjective on what people like. For me, I prefer Royal hands down over Carnival. You'll find others that swear by Carnival.

On Harmony for Feb 18 2017. We had our usual 11:00am flight out that got changed to 9:45am. Do you recommend holding on to luggage and carrying it off that morning to disembark? Should the earlier flight be an issue? Thanks
I would never fly out that early....but if you don't have a choice?? Hopefully all goes smoothly for you.

Won't know until you try it. We used to cruise Carnival. Once we tried Royal, never went back. Everyone is different. Go for it! If you don't like it, go back to Carnival.

Nassau is at the bottom of my favorites, but I enjoy St Thomas and St Maarten. We go a lot, but can find so many different things to do. I don't care for Jamaica either. Private island is ok, but wouldn't want to add it to an island I don't like. Cozumel is ok. I prefer the Eastern.
St Thomas, so places to do there, or we go over to St John a lot. St Maarten, I prefer to stay where we dock. We usually do the America's Cup and sail. Many places to shop as well. Just take a taxi or water taxi. Nassau is on our itinerary on our next cruise. Will make the best of it and probably go over to Blue Lagoon. You can also go over to Atlantis, but we don't have enough time in port this time.
Enjoy!

There have been several head on collisions this winter near the McGregor Point lookout parking lot. That's located at the beginning of the pali road along the cliffs just past Ma'alaea heading towards Lahaina. The lookout is a popular place to see whales but not everyone follows the safe way to enter & leave the parking lot. The accidents have involved mostly tourists unfamiliar with the area but it can happen to anyone including locals.
Maui traffic is nothing like on O'ahu (some recent surveys have Honolulu near the top of worst traffic in the US) but there are some general conditions that I consider before going anywhere. ;)
Yes, that's a bad place. I think she's going in August, so won't have to worry about that. My friend that lives there said that many are people not paying attention to see the whales. I found myself doing that and my dh had to keep reminding me to keep my eyes on the road!
Love going in the winter to see them tho!

I cruised NCL in 2012 and no one in our group was impressed. We're trying RC later this month.
I see you're going on the Allure. Went on the Oasis and LOVED it! Will be on the Allure as well end of summer. Can't wait! Hope you love it as much as we did!

We've cruised many times during hurricane season. We have one booked for September as well. That's how worried I am. We've been effected once out of 12. Just rerouted us to another port.

I'm the opposite from most folks (don't say it Bob;)). I actually prefer the shorter 4 or 5 days cruises vs. longer ones. Not sure why that is.

It is an easy drive unless there is an accident on the road between Ma'alaea & Lahaina resulting in its closure. During whale season there seems to be more accidents which could be caused by distracted drivers attempting to view them.
There isn't a good alternative because the road around the north end through Kahakuloa is very narrow in sections & takes about twice as long.
Here's a phone # to check on conditions:
Road Closure Advisory Line

True... I also find depending on time of year and day if you have to deal with traffic.

Our first cruise many years ago our dd was 1. We left her home with the mom in law. Sometimes you just need to enjoy your time with your Dh. We started taking our kids when they were older and could really enjoy the cruise.
If you think she can handle both and you won't worry about them, go and enjoy yourselves alone.
