  1. We are cruising on the Sunshine next month for the first time. This is a re-re-re-booked COVID cruise from April 2020 on the Breeze… and then the Mardi Gras…. So we decided to get a suite with what we had already paid, plus now have a bunch of OBC.

Report back if you can about how your trip was! And have fun!

I guess that these are almost like chicken wings, only bigger.

My first meal back on dry land.

By the way.... I discovered Cowboy Chicken down here. Never heard of that chain before, but daggum if I wasn’t impressed! Very very good! Gonna check out Taco Mac soon, that’s also a new one for me.

Still don't have a gate assignment yet, but I always leave from concourse H when I fly home, so I'm taking a chance on it... I'm wearing my "secret mask" which really isn't that bad. Plus, I have to pee...

Are you sticking with your original flight or did you go with a different flight to get that credit?

  4. Thanks for taking the time to bring us along, Sid. You spend a lot of hard earned money on these ventures, and no one would fault you for ever giving us less photos and less info... but all of your reviews leave us feeling like we’ve been standing next to you the whole time. Your unity before 2020 was appreciated, and even more so now after the last 18 months. I imagine I speak for everyone when I say that you have allowed us all to escape the world for the last 5 days. Thank you.

Safe travels back to ATL, where the skies are clear and a nice 71 degrees this morning!

Have you experienced any great food or beverages in Atlanta yet?

I’m not a city person by any stretch. I’m staying in McDonough and my only real free time is Saturday and Sunday. I’ve gone home a couple weekends but staying this weekend. Going over to a buddies house in a little bit for a cookout. I don’t know that I’ll venture into Atlanta proper. I’ve been downtown at various points in my life but don’t have much desire to do anything there this time. Although we have talked about hitting up TopGolf sometime, I’m definitely going to Andretti at some point for the racing simulators, and finding some posh place to eat at least once. Someone in class mentioned Iberian Pig, and we were told Vortex has a pretty good vibe and food also. I seek out good food, and unique food, so I’m eyeballing some places closer to where I’m at. Got a Korean BBQ spot lined up, an Indian place to check, and some others. Unfortunately this 10 week rip is basically all work, no play... but I’m trying to fit some play when I can.

  6. Heyyyyy Sid! Finally caught up to your trip. As with all your other Live reviews... fantastic job! Thanks for bringing us all along, and I hope you enjoy your last day!

I haven’t posted in the Tribe page for several weeks, but I made it down to ATL for class, so I’m holding down the town while you’re on vacation! I have another 6 weeks here to explore before I go back home. The sun finally came out yesterday after heavy rains all week, so you picked a great time to hit the tropics!

As far as commute goes, McDonough is definitely the best choice. Probably the safest area as well. Not really any great dining options around there though...

yeah I don’t remember seeing any food (or bathroom) reviews from you about that area haha. I’ll have a pretty healthy per diem but plan to keep it simple at the hotel for breakfast and save some money to splurge on a good dinner every now and then. I’ll have a few weekends on my own to explore, so I’m sure I’ll find something around there to get into. I’ll come home a couple times, my wife and kiddos will probably come down a couple times too.

    Graduation Day is here!

My son Brian will be graduating from the Department of Corrections Academy this morning. If anyone was following along on the old thread, the day has come!

Thanks to the Tribe for all your support.  Especially @DubNHub

Thank you. Hoping things are well with you.

    Take care, everyone. Stay Safe.

Maybe pics later tonight. So excited!

Oh, too cloudy for the strawberry moon last night. Boo.

Looked at my notifications and saw this. Congrats to your son, I’m sure he’s glad to have all of that behind him! I hope he’s enjoying his new career and staying safe in the process, and I hope you’re not worrying too much!

  9. Blink... and you miss it!

Holy crap.... don’t remember when my last post was, but I kept the original Tribe thread up in my browser so I didn’t lose my place, and it’s marked at the end of February. Seems like a long way back. Then I decide today that I need to ask @sid_9169 some questions and find out there’s a whole new forum! Firstly, an update...

My wife is doing much better with her back and about a month ago has started traveling for work again. Not like she originally was, but probably 75%, so that’s good! There was a time I had to lift her out of bed... now she’s just about good as new!

I’m settled in to my new spot/promotion at work, which leads me to my request for our fearless leader...

Sid, early next month I’m coming down towards Atlanta. I have a class I’ll be attending for a little bit... a little over 2 months, to be exact. The class itself is being held in Stockbridge, which doesn’t look like a terribly swell place. I’ll be staying in McDonough (I think) but there is a possibility I’ll end up staying elsewhere. Stone Mountain, Locust Grove, and Conyers have all been floated as possibilities. I have some say about where I’ll be parked for that time, but ultimately the decision is up to my employer (the government) so I’m sure I’ll end up wherever is cheapest. I WAS able to talk them out of putting me in Stockbridge, so that’s a win. I know none of those are Atlanta proper, but if you had to make a daily commute to Stockbridge, would you suggest McDonough as the best option? It’s closer than the other choices and has more to offer when I’m not in class in terms of restaurants and golfing haha. I don’t mind driving, especially when it’s not my gas, and the nature around Stone Mountain makes me want to stay in that area, but looks like there’s less food options around there.  I don’t ever have to come into Atlanta, and don’t plan on doing so, so access to the city isn’t a concern. It’s a lengthy stay, and I want to be somewhere accommodating and safe-ish.

Got a lot of catching up to do, it looks like! Hope everyone in the Tribe is safe and happy, and I hope you all have a great (hot) weekend!

  10. Mornin y’all. Laying in bed after a crazy night on night shift. Been a bad weekend for LEO’s across the country, with two more shot along the GA/FL line last night. I’ve done this for 13 and a half years, and this promotion can’t come soon enough. I’m ready to be off the road for good, mainly for my wife’s sake. She worries herself sick every night I work. I go back in tonight, and then I took Wednesday and Thursday off next week, so I’m off the entire week due to how our scheduling works. Don’t have any plans, not going anywhere.... just need a break. I’m 37 but feel much older, and I swear it’s because of this job. Dealing with the seedy underbelly of society takes its toll. I count myself fortunate to still be here though, I’ve lost some good friends along the way.

Sorry for the rant. On the plus side, it’s supposed to be near 80 today! Sid, you’re just a few hours south of me so I imagine you’ll have some damn fine weather to enjoy those two wheels! Gonna try to switch off and get some sleep, so goodnight Tribe!

  12. @sid_9169 That parsley salad is similar to gremolata, which is a traditional topping for osso bucco (not sure if you’ve ever had that, but I think you would absolutely love it). It also works well for regular bone marrow like what you made.  At it’s simplest, it’s finely chopped parsley, garlic, and lemon zest mixed with olive oil, salt and pepper and lemon juice. Definitely not a salad, more of a loose spread (think chimichurri) but an excellent choice regardless. You can also add chopped toasted pine nuts, a grated hard cheese (pecorino is good, Parmesan is always good, I like viejo Manchego personally... it’s peppery and has a good sheep’s milk funkiness) and for some extra richness you can also add chopped anchovy. Or, if you wanna get super luxe and uber Italian, some grated bottarga (salted and dried fish roe, usually from mullet but also from tuna... it’s good stuff). Osso bucco, while rich and fatty, has less bone marrow than what you ate so I suspect the vinegar pickled shallots were a welcome addition to cut the richness of that marrow. Oh man now I’m hungry 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

I have two gates, both with beware of dog signs on them.

Also have a sign inside my window, facing out, to the right of my front door that says

    “SMILE

    You’re on

    Camera”

My son has his virtual interview with the Department of Corrections today at 2pm.

Passed the physical exam a couple weeks ago. Psychology test (1,000 questions) coming up soon. I’m kinda scared for us about all of this, to be honest. But it’s what he’s been working so hard for so long for.

Stopped snowing finally. The sun is out and slowly trying to melt the snow that’s been everywhere for months.

    Stay safe everyone!

That psych test is going to wear him out. I’ve been through a few of them and they’re all basically the same. He’s going to be asked about 200 times if he’s ever thought about harming himself, only they’ll ask it in a bunch of different ways. And they’ll be sandwiched in between other odd questions. They’ll be most likely true/false questions or “strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, strongly disagree” type choices. But it’ll be like...

I have thought about harming myself. True/False

    I like kittens. True/false

I like the smell of bacon in the morning. True/false

I have thought about what it would feel like to jump off a tall building. True/false

I like red cars better than blue cars. True/false

I only mention this because it’s easy to accidentally mark a true answer if you’re not paying attention to a question that could disqualify you. So as mind-numbingly boring as reading 700 questions may be, he’s gotta pay attention.

And depending on how the department is, he may be asked to also do an actual psych exam in person, where it gets even wonkier. I was given a bag of about 30 puzzle pieces I had to put together while trying to name as many US presidents as I could at the same time, all the while a loud bell was ringing in the room. Ink-blot test, quick math questions, I had to draw a couple things from memory after being shown a picture, I got asked about my divorce and if I had problems with women or authority (“only women in authority” was my first attempt at humor, and it wasn’t well received) and then was also (again) asked a bunch about if I had ever thought of harming myself by the psychologist. Pro tip: do NOT answer with “I wasn’t before I came in here, but I’m thinking about it now” because I promise you, they will not find that funny. I had a good laugh, she most definitely did not, and I had to reassure her it was a joke. I’m a pretty relaxed and affable guy, but really had to be buttoned up for that exam. And that was a struggle, because that’s not who I am. I HAD to crack a few jokes. The whole thing took over half the day and I was worn slap out by the end of it. But I guess they determined I was ok 🤪🤪

Best of luck to him, sounds like he’s getting closer to all of his hard work paying off! I’m sure he’ll have to do a poly (if he hasn’t already), drug test/medical physical, and one or two final interviews with the powers that be but I’m sure he’ll do just great! Tell him to stay focused, this is a lot to go through to end up getting DQ’d for a silly error. I’m in a different state in a slightly different career, but let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I’ll help however I can!

  14. Howdy y’all! It’s been a bit since I’ve been on. You ever have those days of work that just never end, and before you know it two weeks has passed? Yeah that’s where I’m at right now. It’s been nuts.

Off this weekend and then go back Monday for a 4 week stint on night shift...ugh. This promotion and move to straight day shift can’t come soon enough, though I still don’t have a start date. I’ve been trying to find ways to reduce stress, but so far it isn’t working haha. Me and the kids went bowling this afternoon and then spent some time in the arcade. That was fun! Won my daughter a baby Yoda from my first try on the crane machine, so I got to be a hero! Currently cooking some burgers on the grill and enjoying an Angry Orchard. That’s usually my beer of choice for wings, but I felt like it would be good while I cook burgers too. Time for the obligatory....

Weeeeeelllllpppppppp.... I’m about 32-ish hours post second COVID vaccine. My first shot gave me literally zero side effects, and I’m happy to report the same from the second. I know the second gives a lot of problems to a lot of people. It’s a small sample size, but the first wave of folks from my agency got the second dose about 10 days ago. Most of them had side effects.... very sore arm, 101-103 fevers beginning about 8-12 hours after the shot, and then a day of fatigue. After those reports came in, a lot of folks then started taking Tylenol after their shot and the internal reports of side effects went to almost zero. I know it’s not a very large sample size, but for what it’s worth.... I took Tylenol yesterday about 4 hours after my shot (2pm) and again last night at 9pm. Woke up feeling fine, haven’t taken any more Tylenol and can’t even tell I had a shot. So again... small sample size, but if anyone has any short term concerns about side effects, the Tylenol crew is doing fine.

I have about 20 pages to catch up on, so in the mean time.... I hope everyone in the Tribe is happy, healthy, and doing well!

My pitbull does this all the time. She loves people. Once she makes a friend, it's over. We won't leave until she's ready. When we're out walking and she sees someone,  she'll sit down until they acknowledge her. She knows where people in her "fan club" live and walks slower by their houses, looking down driveways and in back yards. We've stopped traffic before while crossing the street because she sees someone in their yard. She's tiny in pit standards, only 40 pounds, but she's SOLID and stubborn.  "Pulling a Georgie" has become a  neighborhood phrase.  😂

They’re truly misunderstood dogs. My wife and I have rehab’d and rehome’d many pits over the last 10 years. We’ve taken in some real challenging dogs, several that were fight dogs, and quite a few that were bait dogs unfortunately. We’ve turned them all around and showed them a better life, and got them into their furever homes with loving families. We haven’t found any other breed that can be as loyal, loving, and even-tempered. My baby, Petunia, is 11 years old now. She was a rescue we took in about 8 years ago and she just spoke to me in a way that no other dog ever has... so she stayed with us. She’s about 85 pounds and unfortunately had her ears clipped before we got to her... so consequently, she’s a mean looking machine.... but everyone absolutely loves her. Our cats sleep on top of her! She’s truly the absolute worst guardian. Looks mean, barks mean... and that’s where it ends hahaha. I had an apprehension dog years ago (Malinois) when I worked at a different agency, and I also helped train dogs for other agencies for years, so I have a decent understanding of dog behavior.... it’s people that need trained!

    Meet Petunia!

  16. Mornin y’all! I’m off today and tomorrow, then work Friday-Sunday. I woke up super tired and with a big ol headache this morning so... the chores I have can wait til tomorrow!

And I’ll throw in my obligatory “weeellllllpppppppp” now....

Weeellllllpppppppppp....... got called in last Friday on a day off to have a discussion with the brass. I’ve been talked to over the last few months about moving to another division based on some experience and skills I have (yes, I’m bragging and I don’t care) but I needed to get my time in first. I basically have my time in now, so I was offered a promotion, of sorts. No increase in rank, but I’ll be bumped up to a ranked pay grade due to the specialized position. I took time over the weekend to discuss it with the family, because accepting this position means I’ll have to spend about 10 weeks out of town this fall for some specialized training. That’s definitely a family commitment, and my wife and I have never, ever, ever spent that much time apart. I already have a 2 week class out of state in April that’s been scheduled for almost 2 years now, so I guess that will give us a little taste. We are truly each other’s best friend so this part is a little scary! But she was encouraging, and we made a pro/con list. The only con to accepting is that time spent away from home.... but it’s temporary. I can come home on the weekends but it may not always be practical. This will set up my future very well for my remaining 11.5 years in this career, as well as giving us a boost financially since it comes with a nice raise. We are both blessed since this macaroni virus didn’t affect either of our jobs so part of me feels guilty to be honest. We are both “essential” although I hate that term because I think every worker is essential. Since it’s a “new position” at the agency there’s still some logistics that need worked out, so I don’t have a start date yet. But.... it’s definitely a good thing for us and figured I’d share my good news with the Tribe!

Why do women make great archaeologists?

They love digging up old history.

maybe the punch line is a little different, been a while since I told that one. Also might be little drunk.
