  1. We typically board early, drop our things off in the cabin, go scan in at muster, then head to grab some lunch. After that, we typically sit around in the atrium and people watch. I love watching new cruisers embark and the "awe" they have.
  2. You do not complete your muster drill until you're on the ship. As far as the luggage tags are concerned, they do not need to be printed in color. Monochrome is perfectly fine. I got rid of my color printer about 15 years ago.
  3. Neither have I. As you said, one is for fixed dining time people to do their thing, and the other is usually used as a muster station check-in.
  4. No, you do not. When you're on board and ready to sign into The Hub app, you use your folio number to sign in along with your birthdate. Each person has their own unique folio number. This will be on your sail & sign card.
  5. If you and her both purchase the chat plan ($5) on The Hub app, you can chat with one another on the ship through The Hub app. If you both purchase an Internet plan, you can chat with each other through other outlets such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Insta, whatever.
  6. You also may consider skipping any shuttle service and just grabbing an Uber or Lyft from the airport to the hotel and the hotel to the cruise port.
  7. We sailed 2 weeks ago, had an 10:30am arrival time. We were sitting on lido with ice cream at 10:17am.
  8. Many cruisers stay in the Bayside area downtown. That seems to be the most popular for people who just want somewhere to sleep. There's plenty of hotels downtown Miami such a the Miami Hilton, Marriott, there's a Hampton Inn down there, The Gabriel, and many more. I personally prefer to stay in Miami Beach, as we like to enjoy the beach. However you're just there to sleep one night and not really enjoy anything. As far as transportation, I'd just grab an Uber or Lyft from the airport to your hotel, then from your hotel to the cruise port.

  11. As far as the dining room, think of it like any land based restaurant with a wait list at dinner. Yes you can walk in and request a table, and you will wait outside of the dining area until your pager tells you that your table is ready. Then you have people who have checked in on that restaurants app. They are notified when their table is ready or what time it'll be ready. They park and walk into the restaurant and go straight to their table without waiting with everyone else. It's the same scenario with the dining room on a ship. Except, you don't park. That would be weird.
  12. Priority guests check-in 16 days prior to the cruise. Regular passengers check in 14 days prior. OP stated they were platinum.
  13. You can still request a paper menu, though it may take a bit for them to get it to you. As @mfs2k stated above, they have a thread about this where they were complaining about the issue getting a paper menu. You can still do most things the "old school" way, though it's not the norm on a Carnival ship. It's definitely not a joke. Carnival is catching up with technology, slowly. There are QR codes on each table to scan for the wine menu and food menu.

  15. As far as dinner, you will use the app to see the menus at dinner each night. Actually you can see the menus for the entire week once you're on board. The folks walking up to the podium and asking for a table for 2 for breakfast are the few that don't use The Hub app. Those people will be put into the queue after those who have checked in on the app. Yes there can definitely be lines. As for debarkation time, you still need to select either "Checked Luggage" (where they take your luggage) or "Express Debarkation" where you take your luggage. You select either one on the app.
  16. To clarify, you selected a port arrival time, not a boarding time. The port arrival time is the time you should plan to arrive at the port. That said, since you're platinum you can show up earlier and ignore that check-in time.
  17. While it's not required, it really does help you on the ship and you'll be lagging behind without it. Some of the things that you do on The Hub app: Check in for breakfast and dinner to get your table (if you have Your Time Dining) Select your debarkation time for the last day See The Fun Times, which is the daily activity schedule See photos taken of you around the ship Order food delivery throughout the ship See your spending folio See ship maps & open times Chat with other people on the ship ($) Lots more options as well. You can also use your phone for trivia and Deal or No Deal as well. While you can survive without your phone, you'll be doing things the hard way and will likely have a longer wait at certain things.
  18. We were booked on May 31, 2020 from OSJ. That cruise was cancelled because, well, we all know why... The voyage prior to that one I believe was cancelled as well. However the one prior to that went on as normal. When cruising restarted after, yeah, that, they never resumed from OSJ. They also stopped sailing from Port Everglades as well. I REALLY wish they would bring back the OSJ cruises. That itinerary was perfect.
  19. I think you will be fine. One thing I will recommend no matter what airport you're going from, use the skycap to drop your luggage, already be checked in on your airlines app, and do not use paper tickets. All of those things can drastically speed up your airport experience. Then if you have TSA-Pre that will help at security as well. The only caveat to your plan is you're using a shared shuttle. I don't know how your shuttle company operates, but most of them wait until a vehicle is full before they take off. If your shuttle service is slow, that can obviously delay you. You may consider just using a rideshare.
  20. We Uber very frequently. Do not pre-book your Uber, just wait until you're ready to go and at the meeting spot. Once you have your luggage and are ready, then request your ride. Then you will see on the app what you're looking for. (Red Lexus RX with plate ABC-1234) so it's very easy. You can also chat the driver and let them know what to look for. (Wearing a white hat standing under a no smoking sign). As far as price, do a mock booking on both Uber and Lyft for an UberXL/LyftXL to see sample prices.
  21. Very easy, and I do not think they book up. It opened on our first day to select the debarkation time.
  22. Same! Even when we have an 'early' flight (subjective), we take our time. We mainly sail from Miami and fly from Ft. Lauderdale. When we do this, we sleep in a little, let Carnival take our luggage, have a leisurely breakfast in the MDR and take our time getting off of the ship. We grab an Uber once we're out of the port and are usually at FLL by 9:30-9:45am for our 11am flights. I am in no rush to leave the ship. It's a sad day. 😄

I don't know why but this thread reminds me of the way another thread went on another sub-forum, which almost echoed a social media post from a local news station recently, about places going cashless and how the majority of venues now are cashless. I know the lack of menus has nothing to do with places going cashless, but it just reminded me of those threads. Most of the people were fine with the changes but a few were very hesitant of change and not willing to adapt.
  25. I personally prefer everything on my phone. It's MUCH easier, and much more convenient. Over the years people have posted "I lock my phone in the safe" on CC and social media. Like, it's some weird accomplishment for them. Good for those that do, but they are definitely in the small minority. When papers come to our cabin, they go straight into the trash. I prefer to look at the menu on my phone when I board for the entire week and mentally plan for what/where I am eating. My 87 year old grandmother also prefers to look at the menus & Fun Times on her phone as well.
