  1. We were on an Oceania cruise last year, and they offered Stitch-n-Zip kits for eyeglass cases, etc. This may be what you are referring to and, yes, they are needlepoint. They are nice little kits in lots of different designs, with everything you need: canvas, needle and thread. But beware! No scissors! Come prepared!

  2. How does one find out what the “Air Allowance” is for a particular booking? If I am to make an informed decision to book my own flights, I need to know (1) the price of the flights I want to book, and (2) how much of a fare discount (Air Allowance) Regent will give me for doing so. I’ve looked on my invoice. I’ve looked on my booking page. I can’t find it.

Do I need to call them and pay the $75 for this info?

    This just keeps getting crazier.

  3. Says Peter Cerda, IATA’s Regional Vice President for the Americas: “Canada has become a total outlier in managing COVID-19 and travel. While governments across the globe are rolling back restrictions, the government of Canada is reinstating them. The government should follow the lead of its peers, including, for example, Australia. While that country had some of the toughest travel restrictions during the height of the pandemic, it has now lifted these, including the vaccination requirement. Rather than following this example and enabling travel and tourism to recover, those in power in Canada believe that throwing more red tape at the pandemic is the way forward.”

Arrive Can is a very slight pain in the neck but hardly a reason not to travel to Canada. Takes a couple of minutes and Done. Much bigger intrusive deal is random testing for vaccinated folks..off site from major airports. You are randomly selected for followup testing after you leave the airport. Fortunately for us the program begins on July 19 and we arrive in Vancouver for our cruise on July 17.

Good timing on your part, Edgee. We are supposed to take a train/bus tour from Vancouver to Banff, end of July. Maybe it’s due to my irrational paranoia about airport security, but we are debating whether to cancel this trip rather than take our chances flying into Vancouver. The possibility of a 10-day quarantine in some mysterious undisclosed location in a foreign country is … daunting.

  5. For our first Regent cruise coming up in May, we decided to wait and see what Regent would propose without deviation. The flights they gave us were perfect, and exactly what we would have chosen with or without deviation. I suppose it depends a lot on your itinerary. For us, it was Los Angeles to London and on to Nice, and return from London. Non-stops across the pond, business class on British Airways. Can’t do better than that. No deviation required. We are very much impressed. YMMV

  6. We loved the Fortress of Louisbourg, where the French set up an outpost in the early days of Canada. We rented a car and drove about a half hour across the island. We were there in early October, and things were winding down before closing for the winter. Even so, the tour was great, lots of costumed volunteers, demonstrations, tours of the buildings, history stories, gift shop, small cafe. If you don’t want to drive, you can probably find a tour. This was one of the highlights of our trip. Highly recommend.

  7. AQSC has clearly changed their policy. When we sailed on the Queen in September, the cost of the PCR test was included. The test was required of every guest, and they were performed at the hotel the day before departure. We got the results by email in about an hour. This system seemed to work fine. Can’t imagine why they changed it, except to save money.

  8. We are booked on a Splendor cruise in Europe for early May 2022. This is one of several cruises where the final payment date was moved from 6 months out to 60 days. So our final payment date is now in March. We plan on using Regent air. I see the usual airline booking routine begins 75 days before the cruise, in this case, some time in February.

I am wondering whether we will still be able to choose our included flights if we haven’t yet made that final payment. If not, I think I’d be willing to make that final payment early just to get the matter settled.

Some of these policy changes are fairly recent. Does anyone have any experience with this?

An early arrival in SanFrancisco this morning, where the ship will remain berthed until Mariner departs for the World Cruise on Wednesday.

From our balcony we can see the covid quarantine hotel that the SF authorities will use for anyone failing an Antigen test

    Only joking 🤣 🤣

Today we took one of the tours that Regent hastily arranged for our extra days in San Francisco - “City Tour with Dim Sum lunch

The bus tour was interesting and we had a good guide. The Chinese lunch was plentiful & tasty but was not in the most luxurious establishment. Describing the venue as ‘tired’ would be an understatement.

Tomorrow, our last day, we will spend on board. We are not looking forward to our Steward putting that final message on the bed 🙁

If Clint Eastwood is still on that island in the bay, I’ll be happy to volunteer.

Following the very enjoyable New Year's Eve celebrations on Mariner we docked in San Diego this morning. A glorious day, cool but sunny, for our tour around the city & harbour.

Great photo! It’s fun to see The World docked next to the Mariner. I have a relative with a suite on The World. Didn’t know they were nearby.

It's about 6AM off the southern California coast.  The lights of San Diego can now be seen just east of us, and I'm "up and about".  Staying up late for the New Years celebrations onboard held no particular interest for me.  DW and her friend kept the celebration going, while I and "Chuck" went off to our separate suites and "called it a night".  Dinner in CR was really good and finished off our Cherry Pie from last night's in-suite dinner.  Yumm!

The pilot boat just pulled alongside and transferred our pilot to the Mariner and we've now begun to pick up a bit of speed and are heading towards the harbor.  A little bit of daylight is just "peaking above the eastern horizon".

A few minutes later.....Looking out my patio window, I can see that we have just now passed the outermost channel markers and are heading towards Cabrillo Point and will be seeing the Coronado Bridge within the next 15 minutes.  Customs and Boarder Protection Officers will be boarding as soon as we securely tie up and everyone on the ship will have to go through a "face to face" immigration check with the officers.

I would imagine after that, they'll open up ship and many folks will be eagerly setting foot onto U.S. soil for the first time since we departed Key West on the afternoon of Dec 19.  DW and I have no actual Excursions booked, as we've been to SD many, many times over the years and we're now "just" a 5-hour drive back home (to Arizona) and do the occasional road trip over to SD.  We might just walk around the Gaslight District a bit to stretch the legs.  But we'll be staying with the cruise until we finally depart the ship on Jan 5 in San Francisco.

We had given a 5-second consideration about leaving the ship today, but didn't see any compelling benefit to doing that (packing up is such a "pain").  We're enjoying all the entertainment and meals onboard and are having a great time seeing some of the other passengers we've become friends with.  I'll "check in" later and let everyone know how things are going and how the "Cruise to Nowhere" continues.  Best Regards

Thank you! What a beautiful way to start the New Year!

Writing from the splendor, unless all you care about is the sun, the pool, eating, and drinking I would take advantage of the offer to move cruises.

We are booked on the January 24, 2022 Splendor cruise, which has virtually the same itinerary as the first part of your current Splendor cruise. I’ve been following along closely because we have an excursion booked in every port, including a very ambitious trip from Santa Tomàs de Castillo to Tikal on a small plane (what were we thinking?) We chose this trip because of the itinerary. I’m really leaning now toward cancelling. I guess I’m just not so much into “the sun, the pool, eating, and drinking”!

  13. We are supposed to sail in January on an itinerary very similar to yours. We signed up months ago for lots of great excursions. From Cozumel, it’s the Mayan ruins in Tulum.

I know things can change a lot from now till then, but I’m encouraged that things are going forward as planned for your cruise.

Looking forward to the pool bar too!
