  1. This is one of the Putu's that I know. He was up in the Sky Lounge during Elite Happy Hour when we were on the Reflection in Feb 2018. He was a great bartender.
  2. We sailed with Captain Skylogiennes and Hotel Director Arjan Scheepers back in February 2018 on the Reflection. Did a B2B2B in an lowly outside cabin and we are just Elite. Arjan was very gracious and outgoing. We were very surprised to be invited to a huge luncheon with the captain and staff including suite folks and Zenith members. It was his doing. That was an amazing cruise.
  3. I really miss Portofino's too. Never got to Jamie's. Checked it out on the Anthem and decided it looked more like a cafeteria than a fine dining restaurant and went to Wonderland instead. SO MUCH BETTER!!! As far as having a hand in preparing your own food - Celebrity does that in their Lawn Club Grill. You have the opportunity to make your own pizzas at sea!! Great restaurant. I actually enjoy watching Jamie on TV. His recipes are simple yet tasty.
  4. We are doing a RCCL pre tour and will be staying at the Sophie Station Suites. Has anyone stayed there? Any advice? How were the kitchens? Coffee makers? Did you need to bring supplies (filters? coffee?) We are used to timeshares in the Caribbean and we usually schlep all sorts of stuff. TIA!! Arubamoose
  5. I can second staying at the Admiral Hotel. It was delightful and in the middle of everything. We used Chase Sapphire points for our two day pre-cruise stay. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. As far as the air con - we were there in the beginning of August and it was not an issue. We also used the Copenhagen card for transportation from the airport, to Fredriksborg castle and around town including bus to the ship at Ocean Terminal. Admission to Tivoli was included as were other tourist sites. Well worth the cost if you are interested in what's included. Mass transit was a breeze - one of the easiest cities ever.
  6. Recently on a B2B on the Serenade, we went to book onboard but both restaurants were booked the first and second night. The CL concierge was able to make a reservation for us later in the cruise.
  7. The Moose is really happy about Glenfiddich...it's not Glenliviet but it will do!!!
  8. We were on the Freedom a couple of years ago from FLL and were almost to Cuba. Captain had to turn around and make REAL haste back to Florida. Medical emergency. Did that for about 5 hours when we abruptly turned around back on course. We all assumed the worst.
  9. Hey John - not just this week!! We just did a B2B2B on the Serenade in February/March and they charged us $15 corkage to open the wine we brought on board in Chops. However they did not charge us any corkage in Giovanni's to open the bottle of complimentary Diamond Plus wine that was delivered to our room. We were not charged anything in the dining room for our wine. I guess you could get around this by bringing on board wines that are on the D+ list......haha.
  10. Our group of four will be renting a car in Juneau - main event - Mendenhall Glacier. We also have other things planned to drive to. I am usually in the drive to the furthest point (Eagle Beach) and make your way back to port camp. However - we get in at 9 AM on the Radiance and have three other ships in with us that day - QE, Ovation (!) and Coral Princess. Thankfully the QE and Ovation don't get in until the afternoon. Is there a best time to go to the Glacier? Should we make haste to do it first thing?
  11. We do have the morning before the bus takes us to Seward in Anchorage. Not sure when our tour leaves. I already looked into the choices in Fairbanks just in case. Not the best option but doable.

    Wine in Alaska

We are doing a RCCL cruise-tour starting in Fairbanks (overnights) and ending up in Anchorage arriving at 8PM (overnight) at the Marriott. We motor coach the next day to Seward to board the Radiance. Since RCCL allows two bottles of wine to be brought on board, we were wondering where is the best place to purchase? Don't really want to lug the bottles on the land portion. Anyone with experience? Not sure about the wine prices in AK ... are they so outrageous that it just pays to purchase on board?
  13. We did an Anthem cruise in September 2016 to Canada and New England. Don't remember who the captain was but he graciously sailed up the Hudson. Even for a born and raised native New Yorker - it was spectacular!!
  14. We had been previously burned by Avis and their deceptive business practices. We had a reservation and when we arrived they had given our car away and we were left scrambling for something to do for the day. This time we rented from Advance Car Rental. Celestino - the owner - met us across the street from the ship. There was a nice, clean Nissan Sentra waiting for us. We were given a paper map with beaches and highlights of the island marked on it. We were given a Garmin with the beaches and highlights preprogrammed on it. We were given a cell phone with his number preprogrammed to call in case of emergency. All this and insurance for both drivers for $75 cash which we paid at the end. We hightailed it up to Westpunt and Playa Grandi as we heard it gets crowded early. It was the craziest snorkeling I have ever done in my life and I've snorkeled on the GBR in Australia and in the South Pacific. In the middle of the cove there was a holding pen with millions of fish caught by local fishermen to use as bait. There were LOTS of turtles. Got some amazing GoPro shots and videos. Hit quite a number of other beaches for lounging and snorkeling. The Garmin was amusing. Most of the roads did not have any designation or names and it just kept telling us to turn left or right at Road. Do get out to see the rest of the island on your own. It was great! http://www.advancecarrentalcuracao.com/
  15. I was just on the Serenade and booked two Celebrity Cruises. I received whatever perks and reduced deposit. However - when I went to transfer it to my travel professional - the agency had a MUCH lower group rate that required the full $500 deposit. No brainer.
