  1. Correct, with 2 prongs there is no fire hazard.

Hang on, from reading the thread it sounds like the new policy is to ban power strips even with no surge protection due to the fire hazard of an overloaded outlet.

If that's the case, even a 2-prong device would be against their rules. Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like they are worried about the heat generated from excessive current draw (from multiple high draw devices) causing fires (Shouldn't their breaker trip before this happens though?).

  2. What is the difference in bringing an empty water bottle onboard or a refillable Teva or Brita bottle that they fill onboard the ship? Some like to carry a water bottle and some, like me (I've done this way before the no water on the ship policy was inacted), have no issues with another kind of refillable container. Not sure how NCL is being short sighted because folks have no issue drinking the ship's water.

This sounds an awful lot like you are generalizing and speaking on behalf of all the other cruisers.

The ship's water may be fine for you, but it may not be fine for everyone else, and it is certainly not fine for me.

  3. Why not go to Skagway and miss Victoria?

I believe there's a law that says a foreign flagged vessel leaving US waters must call on at least one foreign port (in this case Victoria) before re-entering US Waters?

    Something to that effect.

If what was mentioned earlier in this thread is true, i.e. that this is a directive straight from Del Rio, many are going to see this as the latest in a chain of events designed to cut costs and maximize profits at the expense of the customer and customer relations.

  4. No its not a dumb argument. forty years ago we all drinks from the hose of the hearest neighbors house when we were playing for the day. Im sure almost every one on here remembers their mom saying dont come home till the street lights come on.

So dont say its dumb argument because you happened to become accustomed to the false lie of bottled water being healthier.

Dont be so ignorant at your age.

Life survived on this planet for hundreds of millions of years without the invent of the plastic bottle...

anyways... good luck with your life.:D

He's not saying it's a dumb argument because he is "accustomed to the false lie of bottled water being healthier."

He is saying it's a dumb argument to say we are ok with giving up choice just because we lacked those choices in the years before.

Science progresses, Medicine progresses, in general we as a society progress. Your argument is that it's ok if we regress because we made do without it before.

We used to use asbestos for insulation. Then we progressed cause we learned about it's harmful effects. This is progress. If someone tomorrow tried to sell you a house with asbestos in it would you be willing to buy it simply because humans have been using it since the ancient days of Rome and they seemed to do alright?

I suppose I could import my own of everything, but it just seems like so much trouble. Part of being on vacation is being flexible and learning to adapt. Can't stand Diet Pepsi? Learn to find something else for the week. Maybe you'll develop a taste for Iced Tea, or seltzer water with lime.

One could also argue that part of being on vacation is enjoying oneself without having to make concessions for something so simple as a beverage one might enjoy. NCL in particular likes to advertise their philosophy of free style cruising afterall.

Personally speaking, we drink a lot of water on a daily basis. I drink even more when on vacation eating sodium rich foods, doing more physically strenuous activities, and being exposed to a hot climate (depending on the cruise).

We are peculiar about the taste of our water, we can and have discerned the taste difference between the various brands of bottled water in multiple blind tests (some of our other friends were also skeptical that we could do this at first).

Aquafina or the ship's water does not taste refreshing to us. They lack that taste of "cold(nothing to do with temperature)" refreshment present in some of the other brands.

On a recent cruise we purchased and self carried aboard several large bottles of water to drink. We also brought refillable water bottles with us so that we could take the water with us on excursions and around the ship.

I understand that it may sound ridiculous to some of you that someone could have a preference for what water they like to drink. But whether we admit it or not, everyone(including you) has their own little guilty preferences that we like to indulge in when we can (especially on vacation when we're supposed to be enjoying ourselves).

So I kindly ask you refrain from passing judgement on others for whom this change is noteworthy and distasteful (pun intended). Prior to this change we had a choice, an option for people to bring their own beverages board. Now that option simply does not exist, this is a fact. You are entitled to your own opinion of course but that does not change the fact that an option is being taken away with no compensation or reasonable alternative and the reasoning they provide for this change is questionable at best.

  6. Outstanding post!! I just today sent an email off to Mr. Stewart, voicing my support for the new policy. I think the angst over all this is much ado over nothing. There are many alternative hydration methods, as well as cruise lines that have more palatable beverage policies. If this was ever a deal breaker for me (which it never would be), I would seek alternatives not rant on for days and days.

You have a right to an opinion as does everyone else here. Don't chastise others for expressing theirs. It is to everyone's benefit that NCL understands how their decisions affect their customer base and ultimately their bottom line.
