  1. Normal people would ask if NCL allows passengers to bring distilled water on board for a CPAP machine. Terrible people go right to claiming NCL is violating their rights.
  2. I would be surprised if you find out the how and why. The FAS is NCL's standard promotion and nothing has changed so this seems like an IT glitch like others have said. I don't believe NCL was trying to scam you.
  3. It makes sense to upgrade if you are a whiskey or wine drinker. The difference in price of the good wines and whiskey makes the upgrade price doable. Otherwise, you get the first $15 of a drink included and you just pay the difference in price plus 20% tip on the difference, ie a $17 drink you pay $2.40 extra. There are plenty of brands that fit in the $15 limit though. With the upgrade package, you also get unlimited Starbucks, bottles water and energy drinks. If these are items you would normally purchase, it might close the gap on the upgrade price.
  4. Its still a $10 min but you need to place at least $2 on each number inside rather than the normal $1.
  5. If you go to specialty dining under the ship review on NCL, there is a link for sample menus of each restaurant on the ship. Here is Le Bistro. https://www.ncl.com/sites/default/files/Fleet_Le-Bistro_Dinner-Dessert-Mobile-Menu_052824.pdf
  6. Breakeven on one person using the two packages is 4 drinks. If you average 4 drinks or more a day, its worth it.
  7. It could be any portion. I had a death in the family 2 days before we were leaving on a Europe trip and they refunded every non refundable dollar without having to jump through many hoops.
  8. I have it but its not a good points credit card unless you cruise with NCL a lot. Get the Chase Sapphire if you are looking for points. 2x points on your travel and if you charge the full amount with their card, you get their travel insurance for free.
  9. This is a new one on here. First time I have seen someone complain that NCL made it to a port.
  10. It’s more sushi restaurant. A few non sushi items but focused on rolls, nigiri and sashimi. Your description works though. You choose any 4 items per credit and can share among the table even with guests that do not use a credit,
  11. I wouldn't say there is enough difference between Prima and Viva to call it new and improved. The changes really amount to taking out the Starbucks in Indulge and an interactive wall across from the Metropolitan Bar. They also decided to change the lightly used Speedway bar into the teen club, Entourage, after sailings started. If you like the Viva, you will like the Prima also.
  12. These are your options: Ocean Blue - A la Carte (extra charge for Surf & Turf or Lobster) Moderno - Fixed Menu (Brazilian Churrascaria where they bring skewers of meat around) Wasabi - Small Plate (4 items per credit used) Cagney's - A la Carte (extra charge for Surf & Turf) La Cucina - A la Carte (no extra charge) Le Bistro - A la Carte (extra charge for Filet w/ Foie Gras or Lobster Thermidor) Teppanyaki - Fixed Menu (similar to Benihana with a similar hibachi menu) Le Bistro and Ocean Blue are considered a little higher end and require pants for men. The Breakaway class ships were just before NCL started adding the upcharge activities like the Speedway or laser tag.
  13. If its $24 total, that would be 1 credit per guest. What ship are you looking at?
  14. 1. Are all specialty restaurant included in this offer on the ship or there are certain? All restaurants are included. 2. Other than the gratuities that are added to reservation, are there any other charges that one has to pay when on the ship? Nothing required besides the gratuities. There are upcharges for certain items like the Speedway or drink experiences but spending on those are up to you. 3. Traveling with a Kid that is 3rd guest. I don't believe the kid will like the specialty restaurant. Can the Kid accompany us to the dinner without paying up charge? There is a free kids menu that has your normal kids menu items like cheeseburgers and chicken tenders. If they eat off the regular menu, you pay for those items. 4. On a 7 night sailing, how many dinners do we get? Is it just one per guest? Balcony and above get 2 credits per guest. Cabins below get 1 per guest. 5. I assume that we have to make reservation at the restaurant like we would normally do once we get onboard or online prior the cruise? You can make reservations starting at 120 days. NCL also releases more spots the day off that you can book as soon as you get on board. For what you get vs the cost, I don't know why you wouldn't add the specialty dining. The food is an upgraded experience from the MDRs.
  15. No time crunch. The offers get extended. The 70% off 2nd guest will switch to 35% off both guests which is the same.
  16. While you can’t transfer credits, tapas style restaurants like Food Republic allow you to order 4 items per credit and share with the table. Usually 4 credits is enough food for 2 people. I would recommend using yours and your step daughters 4th credit at Food Republic if it’s on the ship. This would allow all 4 to eat from the 8 items.
  17. Do you purchase bottles or glasses that are more than the $15 limit? If by the glass and you drink more than 2 a day, it’s still better to take the package and pay the difference.
  18. I didn't think about the 2 dining credits having a discounted upgrade price. I think you will be very happy with FAS+ based on those numbers. It gives the cruise almost an all inclusive feel. Here are a couple of suggestions to get the most out of the upgraded drink package: -Order higher end bottles of wine at dinner. What ever you do not drink, they will save and you can request at your table the next night. NCL's included wines are ok to bad but there are bottles in their $100-$120 range that are really good. -If you are doing Le Bistro, that is the only place on board for Veuve Clicquot. You can not order it by the bottle but if your waiter is good, they will keep refilling without asking. -Ask for 2 large bottles of water before heading back to the cabin each night. -NCL allows you to order two drinks at a time on one keycard. This includes Starbucks so your husband/wife does not need to be with you when ordering.
  19. Sometimes NCL is cheaper even with the FAS fees and sometimes they are not. For this cruise, its doesn't look like its cheaper. The Ovation OTS is about $800 cheaper for similar sailings that week. The Ovation does start in Seattle and end in Vancouver so don't know if that is an issue. Also, the RCCL beverage package is currently $62.99+18% on that cruise which adds $1,000 and the Chops plus is $122.99pp. If you want to make it an apples to apples comparison, the NCL cruise is actually cheaper.
  20. Wifi upgrade X2 = $400 (not 100% sure of the number. used $29.99 per day and $100 upgrade credit) 2 Dining Credits = $238 Shorex credits = $150 Total upgrades = $788 FAS+ Upgrade = $980 Difference = $192 Personally I would say its a no brainer if you were planning on buying those upgrades individual already. If morning coffee is important, you will be buying Starbucks every morning which will almost hit the breakeven point on its own. If you are a wine or whiskey drinker, it makes even more sense.
  21. I upgraded to the FAS+ for the first time in December and I liked the almost all inclusive aspect of it. Really didn’t have to worry about anything. I prefer whiskey/scotch and my wife is a wine drinker. We ordered $100-$120 bottles of wine at dinner and had a constant pour of Veuve Clicquot from our waiter in Le Bistro. We also got our morning Starbucks free that we would be paying out of pocket for and went back to the cabin each night with a couple of 1L waters. I was already planning to upgrade the Wi-Fi and it was great to have two additional dining credits. Also got $100 out of the shore ex credit. All that and it’s still cheaper than what ever dynamic pricing the drink package on RCCL turns out to be.
  22. The goal of businesses are to operate at a profit so of course we are paying for it just like we are paying for the salaries of the corporate employees or the utilities of their buildings. It’s a bad argument because you can’t tell me what the gross profit per passenger is or what it was before they added the perks. You can’t tell me what the gross profit of their competitors are compared to theirs. Did NCL gross up their fares when the perks were added? If so, what was that gross up? Was it 1 to 1 or was it 1 to 1/4? How do you know NCL didn’t give up gross profit to attract more customers? They are in a competitive market place so prices need to reflect that. Let’s throw some easy numbers out there. Let’s say before the perks fares were on average $1,000 a passenger and they made a gp of $500 per passenger. After the perks, the fares stayed $1000 but the gp is now $300. The passenger count increased and NCL actual makes more revenue overall. Yes you are paying for them in the sense that they are included in your fare but are you really paying for them if the company ate the costs?
  23. He did not miss the point. You just made a bad argument.
  24. Someone figured out a hack that allows you to see what the extras pricing is for RCCL and Celebrity before you reserve the cruise. They created a google doc where you can enter the cruise information and it pulls the links for you. I don't know if this will allow you to get in without going directly through the link on the message board. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ukT6gOPcu7coL92LuDcyDaWXQfO88u5kN9FEdHRj5bM/edit#gid=0
