Hi, will be sailing on Sun Princess next Feb. i booked a mini cabana suite, but am wondering what the difference between that and a reserve mini cabana. As always thanks for the help.

Reserve Cabana Mini Suites are located on Deck 9 and get access to the Cabana areas located on the same deck (effectively a private area with loungers and hot tubs). These guests also get access to the Reserve Collection restaurant.

Thanks for the lecture lady! Not that it’s any of your business, but I have been on plenty of both. I expected a few minor inconveniences and hiccups, hence the attractive rate I received, but not a cancellation on her 4th voyage. While that hasn’t happened yet, it certainly seems a real possibility.

I’m sure you’ll have a witty reply in defense of Princess. In the meantime, I just booked Celebrity Apex for later this year. Bye Princess!

What an overblown response to what was a pretty accurate and respectful post.

    I know nothing.

saw a post guarantee cabins being assigned for February 18 th Sun and ship might have been handed over to Princess.  Fb

I'm booked on the Sun's April 8th cruise and have had my guaranteed cabin assigned for a month or so. IMO the example you're citing is just a late-ish allocation of a room rather than being indicative of anything about the ship's entry into service.

  4. Are you telling me you don’t have a card tied to your bank account, so that you can withdraw or deposit money? If you do, guess what, you have a debit card.

What a ridiculous statement and generalisation. Having a debit card isn’t indicative in any way of someone’s ability to hold and maintain a credit card account.

We have our first Princess cruise booked for next year, and I'm trying to learn all the new things required. If we do not live in the US our medallion won't be posted to us, and we can only be blue, is that correct? We have booked a cabin which states priority embarkation - how does that process work if we are blue? We embark in San Francisco, if embarkation port is a factor.

I'm interested to know this as well. First time sailing Princess since they've had the Medallions, all of my check-in info has a green tick and I have selected the free lanyards for our Medallions. However, the Medallion section still has the orange exclamation next to it. But when I go into it, it shows the order for the lanyards. Now I'm thinking it's simply because the Medallion won't be sent to me beforehand?

  6. I was on a Disney cruise out of NYC back in 2016, when they did sailings that included a stop at Port Canaveral with included tickets and transfers to Disney World. Similar situation on the way back to the port at around 8pm, a horror car and motorcycle accident and there was literally no way to get around it (sadly also a fatality). Because the day at Disney was the main draw for the cruise, we were "lucky" in that 99% of the guests were caught up in the delay, including many of the crew. One of my memories is of the cruise director standing on the side of the motorway looking at all the stopped buses. We ended up back on the ship at about 1.30am. If it wasn't such a unique circumstance I have no doubt we would have been left behind and that would have ended the cruise (next port was NYC for debarkation).

    Thanks so much for posting.

I WAS really excited about the new ship but after viewing the video I have to say I'm disappointed about the cabins. They all look pretty small (including the suite) and the chairs on the balcony look very uncomfortable.

I'm trying very hard to reserve judgement until we hear back from the first passengers, though.

Sadly I have to agree. I'm booked in a Reserve Cabana for 04/08 and it just doesn't look as inviting as the mockups, which made the cabana portion of the room seem rather bright and airy. It's ended up as just another room tacked onto the end.

The Wonder has got less of that stuff, I think it has a kids slide. But she is used in Alaska/other cold weather situations so she doesn't have as much of that outdoor slide action.

Yep, the Wonder has the Twist 'N Spout in the Aqualab area, more of a kiddies water slide compared to the other ships. The Magic also has the Twist 'N Spout in addition to the Aqua Dunk.

The Wish will have the Aqua Mouse, which is going to be a bit of a mashup between the Aqua Duck on the Dream/Fantasy and a Disneyland-esque dark ride.

According to a friend on Facebook who is also booked on Radiance of the seas this summer has been told that Radiance of the seas has been pulled out of Australia for the 2022-2023 season.

Monday the e-mails will go out.

Bloody hell! I just booked on the Oct 28 cruise on Radiance a few nights ago. Same thing happened last time I booked with Royal, booked a cruise for this April and two days later it got cancelled.

    Maybe I'm just bad luck!

Hubby said he read about planes leaving nearly empty with passengers pleading with the flight attendants to let the captain know there are many people still waiting to board planes. The plane left nearly empty, leaving many people behind. That surely does sound like a cluster @#$%. Yikes!

As someone that works in the industry, I wish it was as simple as the captain being able to authorise more people to board. Unfortunately, there's a whole slew of stuff behind the scenes that they aren't able to override.

  11. November 22 2019. Disembarked in Galveston after transiting the Panama Canal on the Disney Wonder. After cruising at least once, usually twice, a year, this has been a long 28 months 😞

My partner and I had taken 10 weeks of long service leave in late 2019 and split the time between England and the US and in hindsight it was all timed so luckily. Did a heap of touristy stuff in England that we hadn't gotten around to. Ticked an item off my "bucket list" by sitting in the cockpit of an RJ85 on takeoff from London City Airport - four months later these aircraft were retired due to the pandemic and my ex-colleague friend that was captaining the flight was made redundant. Cruised the southern Caribbean, fell in love with Puerto Rico and made great friends out of the other 2 couples we were sat with at dinner for the week (had never clicked so well with people on a cruise before!). Flew to San Diego to join the Panama Canal cruise, which is one of the best things I've ever done and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Flew from Galveston back to California, hired a car and drove the coast from LA up to San Francisco. Promised myself I would re-visit Monterey, "maybe next year...". A few months later the world turned to s**t...

Between then and now have booked, and subsequently had cancelled at least 7 cruises...

Thanks for the updates on WA. We don't really hear much over here about what the general feeling is in the WA community about the state's lockdown.

I know what you mean in using the term "lockdown", in that you aren't intending it in the same sense as NSW, VIC, etc at the present time. I just know there are some people that will see the word "lockdown" in reference to WA, try to correlate it with the hard border, and assume that we are under restrictions for no reason (aside from the border, we're under none at all).

  13. 2 hours ago, By The Bay said:

The closed borders are popular with the voters in those two States.

Not so much anymore. I'm from WA and was all for the protections offered to begin with, but myself and many others are now getting frustrated with "Daddy Mark" constantly moving the goalposts. It's meaning there's hesitation in some people getting vaxxed to the detriment of those of us that have been, purely because he isn't giving people much hope.

An interesting aside, I was just on holidays in Tassie and found it very interesting how many locals and visitors from other states were asking how we managed to leave the state and how we were planning on getting it back in, if we had to quarantine or whatnot. It seems that there's a lot of misunderstanding over exactly how the WA border works.

🌶 Chilli and PVSA is?  Thanks

    Passenger Vessel Services Act.

It's the rule that states non-US flagged ships that start/end cruises in US ports must visit at least one "distant foreign port".

That's why previously when a cruise started and ended in the US, there was always at least one stop in Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, etc. This is currently on pause at least for Alaska cruises, meaning they can depart and return to Seattle, and stop in Alaska, without visiting a foreign port (ie: Canada) along the way.

Surely you've got to be kidding. Those of you that have not heard of 'early mark' before are you really Australians?

I'm from WA, have lived all 29 years of my life thus far here, and have never heard the term. Don't assume things and then get snarky because other members rightfully called you out for what you said - to imply that myself or others are "less Australian" somehow is absolutely ludicrous. We more than likely have sayings over here that you aren't familiar with, if you came across one would you appreciate a comment such as yours being aimed back at you?

It's the type of close-minded comment I would honestly expect from an American, not a fellow Australia.

I just heard on the news that the Federal Government is going to underwrite Virgin operating limited services between Brisbane and Sydney. The government will guarantee that the airline will not lose money operating the services, but they will not guarantee the future of the airline.

But it's also important to note that Qantas and Jetstar are also having their services underwritten. It's an initiative to keep connections between capital cities and larger towns, not something targeted towards Virgin to keep them alive for now.

  17. 11 hours ago, mum and son said:

I don't think Virgin will come through this. They don't have any assets, and their planes are leased. How do you make lease payments without income?

They own around half of their 737 fleet, and most of their 777s (maybe all, it's been a while since I checked). Wherever this info is coming from that they don't own anything, it's incorrect.

Standard business.  Qantas also base some planes overseas, companies also offshore staff overseas, all have tradeoffs when things go wrong.

Qantas has no aircraft "based" outside of Australia. They have a foreign crew base in the UK, but they don't have actual aircraft attached to it. All are VH (Australian) registered, and ultimately home-based out of Mascot.

There are the various Jetstar subsidiaries, but their aircraft are locally-registered with their headquarters in their respective countries.
