1.
Wasn't that how it was originally intended when they started letting in the Loyalty members to the Concierge Lounge? I think it even said it on the website, maybe it still does.

It was a cocktail hour not a "I'm going to drink as many drinks as I can and I'm not giving my seat up to anyone because I earned this" atmosphere. Some people have taken a perk and consider it an entitlement.

    Ruins it for the rest.
You must have sat there a long time watching this behavior go on.
  2.
We usually go to them, and they sometimes announce them and sometimes don't.

Actually, I was on the Oct 24-27 sailing of the Disney Dream. (With work schedules and having a 9yo, we have to wrap cruises around weekends to have the time). We LOVED the Dream though, what a fun ship. They had so much going on for Halloween as well.
We're retired, no kids, but had a blast on the Disney Dream. Lots to do! I was really impressed with the parents that dressed up with their kids for Halloween and the Pirate deck party. The fireworks were also a plus!

No CL or DL for us on the Dream, but we'll be in there on the Allure Dec.1st.;)
  3.
What makes you think that just because they aren't at the Top Tier Event they aren't on board? I rarely go to those events, its been several years, and I have been D+ for awhile now.

I'm sure there were a few onboard that didn't go. So let's say there were a dozen (and I think I'm pretty generous with that). You would have a lounge dedicated to a dozen people, who may or may not use it. (Most likely not if they are sailing with others who are not D+) Add in the option of drink vouchers and you basically have an empty room.

The majority of cruises, year round, are not filled with tons of D+ people. Take away the special cruises (TA's, repositions, member cruises, and D-in-D like specials), and there just is not the huge numbers that would make a lounge of D/D+ too crowded together. For those cruises that DO have large numbers, an overflow lounge would take care of it.
When were on the Oct. 13th Freedom sailing, the number of D, D+, and Pinnacle's on-board were told at the top tier event.

Hey FLSteve11, weren't you on the Disney Dream Oct. 20-24 sailing? We tried Disney after the Freedom.
  4. To be honest we weren't impressed by the port in Tampa. It didn't have that going on a tropical cruise feel. Being this is your first cruise you want to have an all around good experience. Do a bigger port like canaveral or Fort Lauderdale.

You should have seen the port (banana docks) when I was a kid in the 50's...scary place.

But it really is an easy port to cruise out of, especially if you like western Caribbean.

We usually drive over to Port Canaveral, Ft. Lauderdale, or Miami. We just returned from a Freedom of the Seas and Disney Dream cruise, it was easy walking over to the Dream when we got off the FOS.

  5. Azamara has complimentary wine with lunch and dinner. :)

Now they're all inclusive.....spirits, wine, beer, etc., open bar;). I'll be doing a 12 night test on Azamara Quest Dec. 8th.

    http://www.azamaraclubcruises.com/plan-your-voyage/onboard-packages/complimentary-beverages

"Once onboard our intimate guest ships, the Azamara Journey® and the Azamara Quest®, you won't have to pay extra to enjoy your night-cap or celebratory drink. Our inclusive amenities now feature select standard spirits, international beers and a changing daily selection of red and white wines by the glass throughout your voyage. To take advantage of this incredible treat, simply visit one of our ship bars or dining rooms and we're sure you'll find something to quench your thirst. Please note, the complimentary beverages listed below are not available for room service."

  6. Enjoyed reading the review!

We were on the Disney Dream 10-20 to 10-24-13 and had a great time. It was our 67th cruise and our first Disney cruise. We really liked the dining rotation and our wonderful wait staff. We started our cruise on the Freedom of the Seas 10-13, then walked over to the Disney ship that was docked next to the Freedom.

Retired, no kids, but had a memorable time on the Dream. I was impressed with the crew, and surprised that there was someone there to take personal photos of you with the characters with your own camera.

The fireworks were pretty amazing, considering you're on a cruise ship.

In Nassau, we spent the day at Sandals (a little break from the kids ;)).

I would take a Disney cruise again without hesitation. Up next in December, Allure and Azamara Quest.

  7. As mentioned , the cabbie won't be happy with the short jaunt. I suggest telling him where you need to go AFTER you are in the taxi, AND let him know you will pay him $20 - $25 (what he would make on a run to the airport). The short run could get him back in line at the ship quicker. He may even pick up an airport run from the Liberty, depending on timing.

    Ray in NH

You are correct Ray.....we experienced this in Miami last year. People in front of the taxi line were trying to get to another ship and the taxi driver refused to take them. So be prepared to pay extra. When we asked the dispatcher for a taxi to a downtown hotel, he said that might not happen. Luckily for us, the driver agreed to take us.

Last month in Port Canaveral, we got off the Freedom of the Seas and walked over to the Disney Dream that was docked next to the Freedom. Just a short walk so no problem.

  8. I was afraid of this happening. I love going to the diamond lounge. We have late seating and usually would go after early seating left. No problem finding a seat. This sounds like something RCL wants to do to save money. If they keep taking away than we will go away.

Same here, after the early seating guests leave the DL and CL, there's usually plenty of seating available. Great places to meet fellow passengers and share traveling experiences.

I didn't understand RCI's reason for having Diamonds in December Celebration over the past several years. Why get more Diamond members to Diamond Plus sooner? Wouldn't it have happened anyway?

Royal and Celebrity are still my favorite, and if we had been loyal to RCI we would be Pinnacle, but I wouldn't trade all of the other cruise line experiences and itineraries for a name badge.

After our Allure cruise Dec. 1st, we're trying our first Azamara cruise Dec. 8th. No vouchers or private lounge, just get a drink when you want one.;)

  9. New to cruise critic not sure how these roll calls work. My husband, son and myself are going to be going on the independence on Jan. 18. We are both diamond almost diamond plus members with rccl. This seems like a great way to connect and meet with fellow cruisers:-)

I have to comment... As a diamond plus member and a mother of a 3 year old child who's also a diamond plus member and usually a suite guest.

    1. I thought that you were Diamond? Wow, what a memory.

    2. On Oasis/Allure, that second level is used for the Chef's Table.

    3. The only children who are not welcome are the same as adults who are not welcome: Those who do not behave appropriately in company.

    You Go GURL!:)

    Oh no she di'int!;)

  10. OOO, OOO, OOO................

I know how to REALLY ignite this thread!!!!!

I think that RC's costs really went up when they started to allow CHILDREN into the lounges! All of that wasted soda. And the food!!! Think of all the extra food! Not only do children consume lots of food, think of all of the platters of perfectly good food that they have had to throw out after an adult reports seeing one of the darlings touching all of the pieces!

I'll add to this......you better be quick in the CL if want 1 or 2 chocolate covered strawberries. The kids would take them all in one trip to the hors d'oeuvres bar.

  11. Correct as always...and I believe the Jewel uses the Hollywood Odyssy venue for it's Diamond Events...hope they are offering something other than the stale trail-mix with those drinks. We opted for Champagne with a little peach liquor/juice/puree..making it a Bellini...as fancy as they could get on our particular cruise...However love the Jewel and the SeaView Cafe..which will be missed when they revitalize her.

I went up to the Hollywood Odyssey one night to check out the Diamond Event and only saw 2 people having wine...couldn't stand the cigar smell so I went back to the CL.;)

Yes, the SeaView Cafe will be missed.

  12. Were you in a guarantee cabin or did you have a specific cabin assigned since booking? Unless it was a guarantee and not assigned until pier check-in....I would be all over the TA!!!!!

He stated that the TA chose the cabin, but 10677 is for 2 only and you can't force the booking to put 3 in that cabin.

  13. the TA selected the room, I didn't care or have a preference where the room was.

If you say it happened, then it did. But how can anyone force 3 names into a 'double only' room?

If it happened to me, I would have resolved it the first day at Guest Services.
