We only went to the MDR once and there was a bit of a wait (less than 10 minutes), another couple was behind us and the four of us decided to share while we waited for a table. It worked out fabulously and we had a great time (They were retired and well traveled, we are a newly engaged couple with plans to travel whenever possible- we gained a ton of wisdom before the drinks hit the table).

We were on the Emerald, for formal nights the fiance wore a dark pinstripe suit and a sharp tie.. Looking around a lot of gentlemen seemed to go more the dark suit/sports jacket route than tux/tails.

I just got back a few days ago from Alaska (cruise only). There was only one night with horrible fog (which was annoying since we really wanted to see the MUTS that night), but we couldn't hear the fog horn in our room on deck 8. There was another night with choppy water. Land wise, there was some light sprinkles of rain but otherwise it was light jacket weather. Mind you, I'm Canadian so 'light jacket weather' should be taken with a grain of salt, there were tons of Aussies with parka-like coats on every day.

Not that it's any of your business why any of these people are booking cruises under the 1$ Deposit Promotion, because it certainly is none of your business, but I will tell you this: over the past three years I've had some major health issues, two job changes (State-run to VA and then a promotion) and another one on the way (two-step job advancement) and the light at the tunnel is there (in a good way). In a year I'll be in a MUCH better place financially.
This 1$ promotion allows me to book the "cruise of my dreams" for $2 instead of $500, and a quick getaway for 1$ instead of $100. I can afford that now. I can also afford to pay off my cruise in "installments" between now and 2018 and 2019.
Let us have this without you stomping all over it.
Well said! As for us, we just got home from our first cruise ever and took advantage of this great deal to book our honeymoon... Coastal California for November '18.

We're sailing on the Emerald Princess next Saturday(1st cruise ever- EEEEEE!) and we know we definitely want an over-the-door organizer to save space, but I've purchased them in the past for home and found the door doesn't want to close with them- is there a tried and true brand/other better way to use them?
Thanks!

Thanks all who've answered. You seasoned veterans are a godsend to us nautical newbies.

You are also responsible for declaring them to CBP - if you don't and they decide to randomly search your stuff and find them, you could be charged with smuggling Schedule III Narcotics into the US!
I don't wanna bunk with Red and Piper! I'll bring the original bottle with the original info on it and definitely declare it. Am I able to carry it on or does it need to be in with checked bags?

I have no clue where the original prescription is, but I'll remember to get a letter of 'Yes, this person can legitimately carry powerful drugs' letter.

I'll be going on a 7 night Alaskan cruise in May and occasionally suffer extreme knee pain. Usually Alieve helps but sometimes I'm near paralyzed with pain so my doctor gave me Tylenol 3 to combat the worst of it. Changes in the weather seem to trigger it and I want to take a couple with me in the event I'm in tears and bedridden by an episode. Do I need a doctor's note or will it be okay if I just keep the pills in the original bottle? I'll be disembarking from Vancouver, BC if it makes a difference.

Everyone's giving such awesome advice! I'm probably planning way too far in advance but I really want to have a good idea of what to expect for extras and what's needed.

You're planning on buying 2 "special" dresses for the formal nights? Why not ONE dress that you can accessorize 2 different ways? Saves you money and (more important) packing space.
Oh no, I already have them in my closet, I just have very little occaisions to wear them. It's just narrowing down the decision to just two since yeah, I don't want to bring a whole wardrobe. He might want to use some of the closet and drawers too, right?

Thank you everyone! Looks like it'll definitely be Crown Grill on a regular night then.

Hello! The beau and I will be cruising to Alaska (both of us are cruise virgins!) in May on Emerald Princess and while we're on a budget, we also want to treat ourselves just a little. I'd like to make us a reservation at one of the specialty restaurants on a formal night (We have two of them- plenty of time to choose two dresses, right?) since I imagine they fill up fast, but I can't find any information on when our nights will be. When does that usually become known? And can anyone recommend a good one? We're not picky eaters, he hates sushi (he's not perfect, but I love him anyways!)

How long do they usually offer it for? Would love to take advantage of it but I get the feeling I'd have to put more than a $1 deposit on the cruise we want.
