  1. Do you have insurance? That helped on holland America. I was told by 2 different employees a different price 1st $250. Then $200 so I was debating just cancelling cause I had premium insurance but the 3rd time I called and told them my spouse was sick and couldn't go so I wanted to cancel him and put my daughter in law on inside same last name he said sure he could take care of that for me NO charge. Why I almost fell off my chair. In the end it was so easy. It pays to have insurance. And just keep calling.

Maybe that's why DW's name was changed without charge. Insurance.

  2. You have to be very cautious when booking. Never book early saver if you think there is a possibility that the person won't be coming. early saver allows no name changes and hefty penalties for changes. I never book ES and know the plan well before final payment. Even if it is the same person and you see a mis-spelled name, it is a hefty penalty. You gotta make sure. Carnival does this and other lines not so much. Beware.

Not necessarily. I booked early saver and they spelt my wife's middle name as Nichole instead of Nicole. I noticed that about a week later after booked and call and changed it without any issue

  3. I am currently on the Glory and have not seen this enforced. The other night there were at least 4 couples who csme in 35 to 45 minutes. I amin the Plat upper dinning room deck 4 so cannot say what goes on the 3rd deck below......no door closed on 4th deck, they just keep walking in. So whats stopping a passenger to enter upper deck 4, then walk down to 3rd from stairway in deck 4 MDR .

It just came out today so you wouldn't have seen it enforced as yet.

  4. Jamericannn and HawkIVette, please just repost your comments. It's possible when you went to post it didn't post all the way. I'm sure if you actually did something to have your post removed, you would have a private message in your UserCP (in upper left of page in the yellow bar). If you don't have a message, then it was likely just a system glitch.

I think it was a system glitch last night because it went through. It happened on a couple other forums where I got email that someone replied to a post. I saw the reply in the email but when I went to the board the reply is not there.

  5. Hi guys,

    Cruise ultra newbie here

So my partner and I will be going on our first cruise ever on carnival spirit leaving this weekend.

I just went to double check our docs and noticed our cabin has changed to 4232 an aft extended balcony cabin where we had a regular balcony cabin before a few doors up 4207.

Can someone please reassure me if this is a good thing or should i call and try to get it changed :)

Also will the bed come automatically in a king config?

    Thanks in advanced.

Welcome to cruise critics and carnival cruise line. I hope you will have a great cruise. Please post pics and reviews when you get back.

  6. Just saw a youtube video of someone who was in room 7348 on the Victory. It was posted 1 week ago. The room looks amazing. And it's just 4 doors down from where we will be staying so I am guessing that means our looks the same. She pans down the hallway which also looks great. Check it out on youtube... carnival victory room 7348. I am so excited to be there!!

It looks good. I really love these newer wall paintings. More subtle and modern.

  7. I have heard some say it's the amount of money you spend in the casino, and others say it's more about time gambling x some factor related to your average bet = "points" and the more points you earn during a cruise the more likely you'll get anything from free drinks while playing on up to a free cruise for two.

This summer I received a free cruise while ON A FREE CRUISE and it blew me away. The offer mentioned "Players Club" so I'm pretty sure it's just related to the casino activity. I do spend two or three hours in the casino, usually late night when it's less smoky. I play blackjack or Hold'em only and limit my bet to the table minimum. I have lost money both of the last trips, but under $400 each trip. I don't see how that equates to a free cruise for TWO.

Does anyone know the formula? I'd like to keep track, to be sure that if I'm close to a free cruise that I can actually get it, because after two in a row I'm spoiled.

Just do the same exact thing you have been doing. Sleep on the same side of the bed, wear the same clothes, book the same room, and so on. I don't think there is a formula. Maybe your stars were aligning right.

  8. Before anyone goes off on me this is just a question for the OP, if your friend was injured by a slip and fall while onboard the ship why would he be charged for medical treatment. Would that not be the ships responsibility to take care of?

I doubt anyone is going to go off on you :). That's the same thing I was wondering. He stated that Carnival bills you if you do go to see a physician and do not have vacation protection.

Someone told me that he should be able to get back whatever he paid if he can prove it was something like wet floor which would have been the ship's fault. Something I quite honestly don't know too much about and never give any consideration. I just go for the fun and not think about negative things such as getting hurt.

  9. Hi there,

Can any recent Dream cruisers tell me what brand the TVs in the staterooms are? We want to connect a laptop & watch a few movies...

    Thanks! :)

Maybe its a good thing that you will not be able to hook up your computer to the tv on the ship. You will be missing some fun activities while you are in the room watching movies. You can see the movies when you get back on land. :)

I hope that doesn't sound mean. You get what I am saying?? :)

  10. There have been many posts about what to bring, how to dress, how to get discounts etc on cruise ships but I haven't seen any recently about some tips which I think are very important. I will start by adding an example and would like you all to chime in and give examples as well.

    1. A friend of mine recently came off a cruise which he got hurt after he slipped coming down the stairs to the Lido deck. He went to the ship's medical center and got treated but was charged for it. When he was trying to reclaim some of the expense from his insurance, he had nothing to prove to them that these expenses occurred while he was on the cruise. Fortunately, he did get something from carnival (I believe an email - not sure) to prove he was charged for the service. However, it took him almost two months of back and forth to get everything together. This could all have been avoided if he ensured he received the proper paperwork before he left the MC.

I hope no one gets hurt on a cruise but I want you to be mindful that if it happens, make sure you get signed documents before leaving the ship.

  11. Great review so far. What camera/phone did you use to take the pics?

I hope they don't do away with formal nights. It is kinda difficult though for people who have early dining to do formal night on the first night of the cruise. Time creeps up on you when you do sailaway party, muster drill and a little tour. By the time all that is done it is dinner time and you realize you haven't showered or dressed as yet.

  12. Thanks guys! I just read the square footage in a balcony room is a little smaller then the ocean view. I will save the balcony for my next cruise with just DH and I!

Typical balcony rooms are 185 square feet with 35 square feet balconies. a typical oceanview is 220 square feet. As someone who doesn't even use my deck at home very much (and there are more activities to see), I would recommend saving the extra money to buy something on the cruise. You are getting more room space in the oceanview and you will not be on the balcony much. Having a balcony you may feel entitled to utilize it and while doing so you will be missing activities on the ship you could be enjoying.
