  1. Every cabin is a solo cabin, as long as you pay 2xs the fare.

I've done mostly solo cruises and have been in everything from ocean view to grand suite but paid a bundle for it. I chose carnival due to the proximity to my home. Some other lines have solo fares about 1.5xs the fare but after I add in travel, carnival is cheaper for me.

Hope you have a great cruise no matter what you choose.

Not every cabin is solo cabin. when you do a search for 4 people some will show up that will not show up when you do a search for 1 person.

  2. We have our eye on Carnival Dream Eastern Caribbean for August.

Being that it's seven months away, does Carnival require the entire payment upfront? Or can I make small payments up until the cruise leaves?

Just to add to what everyone said.

    1. Yes you can pay a deposit and pay the rest after.

    2. They will give you a final payment date which will be 80 days before the sail date.

    3. The set minimum payment is usually $1,000 (4 people) unless you are adding insurance then whatever the insurance is will have to be paid there as well.

    4. Even though $1,000 (4people) is the usual set payment, carnival have different promotions at times such as $50 deposit per person etc so your minimum payment could be way less than $1,000

    5. You do not have to pay a single dollar until final payment. You can pay whatever you want prior to the final payment date. Just go on the carnival's website, create your account and add your booking number. As one posted stated, you have to be careful before you submit the payment. Make sure you change the amount you want to pay because it will always set to the default amount that is due. If you submit by accident, call carnival IMMEDIATELY to cancel the payment. Happened to me before and resolved without any issue.

    6. You can use a carnival gift card or any credit/debit card. I don't believe you can use paypal on the website.

  3. Answer to your question: Of course someone has done that itinerary. lol

My upcoming cruise will be that same itinerary so I've done some research. If you are going with kids you should definitely do the turtle farm in Grand Cayman. They have the package deal for the entire park which also includes the waterpark and alligator viewing. I would not book through carnival for this excursion. The price is $45 for adults, children under 4 free, I don't remember the price for 5 - 17 but I believe it is in the twenties. You can buy the tickets on their website and you get a 20% discount. This will turn out way cheaper that Carnival's price.

  4. I have a question for you, since you're a PR native. We're flying in the night prior to our cruise in December, and don't arrive to the airport until about 11pm on Saturday night, Dec 17th. We're staying at the Sheraton OSJ and I was wondering what places might be open late enough when we get in if we're hungry. I'd rather not have to settle for Senor Frogs, we'd like something a little more authentic, but having a hard time figuring out what restaurants might be open until 2am or so.

The port is directly across the street from Sheraton and beside that is a place where they catch boats to the Bacardi factory and beside that are a couple restaurants that prepare really good food (forgot the names). They are open late. Not sure if until 2am though but I have been there until around 11pm-ish and when I left they were still serving. Maybe the OP will know the name of those restaurants.

  5. Thanks you for your words. This things are really time consuming but to me it's worth it. When I started cruising I got a TON of info and ideas from reading reviews here so this is just me paying it forward.

That's a great way of looking at it. When I wanted rooms I always search the forums to see if anyone mentioned anything about my particular room. Sometimes I don't find anything about the rooms so things like that are always good to post so others will know how that exact room is in terms of location to things and the noise.

  6. Once again, cb, you post wrong "facts". Ship's pools have better turn over and sanitation than shore side pools.

I know you won't be back to a site of one of your drive by posts, but for others who may think you know what you're talking about, here are two reports from the CDC about the "great" sanitation of shore municipal pools:

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjp_ZXNgOHQAhUO7GMKHZRWBM0QFggaMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fmedia%2Freleases%2F2016%2Fp0519-public-pools.html&usg=AFQjCNE1UJlJ3pIlJT6EU8KCxAROcMdpUg

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjp_ZXNgOHQAhUO7GMKHZRWBM0QFggsMAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fmedia%2Freleases%2F2013%2Fp0516-pool-contamination.html&usg=AFQjCNEk0wGkNePEcTB6t-F1qAvbE8o6ug

In one report, 58% of samples from shore pools showed e. coli. The other report shows that 80% of shore pools had a violation, 12% were serious enough to warrant immediate closure, and 20% of kiddie pools were serious enough violations to warrant immediate closure. How's that for "great" sanitation?

You are very much correct on this. The ship's sanitation in the poor far exceed land's public pools.

Too many people here are misinterpreting the OPs post. She did not say she was going to put the toddler in the pool. Her questions was just asking us what we did with our kids while we are on the ship because she heard that they are not allowed in the pools unless potty trained. She just need some advise on activities. Don't bash her.

  7. My parents are doing there 50th Anniversary on Sunshine May 15th out of Charleston. I remember for the 40th I set up a "surprise" for them in their room. But I don't remember how I did it. I may have gotten their res number some how and did the set up that way for some "anniversary" party stuff in their room.

But if I don't have that information (reservation number), can I call Carnival and just use their names to set up any "special" things for them that way? We of course will not be traveling with them.

It would be difficult to get their information from carnival because they will likely need the 4 digit pin if you don't have the reservation number. Other information you likely have that they will want are full name and age.

Try to get their booking number and you can set something up from the carnival's website. Go to in room decorations and choose. They have anniversary options.

  8. Actually they are not going to give a week they want to move the cabin so would not be surprised this offer went to several people

If it comes via email it will tell you when the offer expires once you click on the link and fill out the information. Usually a week. Maybe this one will be shorter and less cabins to chose from because the sailing date is close.

  9. They usually give you a week to accept the offer and you will have a few room options. Do some research. Look up things such as size of the rooms and locations then make your decision from there. You can type in the room numbers on cruise critic and see if others have specified anything about those rooms. The price is not bad. They sent me an email last week for upgrade and it was $70. I wish it was $40

  10. Seen a few changes

No Karaoke , No Legend's show , New show in the Main theater last night on the ship is called Country Roads , They said The Vista and The Breeze are the only 2 ships this show is on .. Did the behind the Fun Tour , The singers in the show do , do the singing , not canned music ..

    Fewer announcement's over all ....

I wish all the ships would cut out some of the announcements.

  11. What is the perks that you get for staying in a spa cabin? Have the chance to upgrade to a spa balcony on the 11th floor on the Glory? Is it worth it?

I'm curious to know how much they were charging for the upgrade. What is the date of your cruise?

  12. We're going on the Fascination out of PR for the Southern Caribbean cruise. I'm just curious if Carnival publishes shows, music, comedians, and other events that will happen on the ship ahead of time? I'm a planner, and would love a general idea of what's going on ahead of time. ha

Things do change at times. You will get the Fun Times when you go on so you can plan on the first day. I am not sure if this ship uses the Hub App. If they do you can use the app on the phone as well for planning.

  13. LOL, yeah I couldn't even get a lawyer to take on a malpractice case when a hospital misdiagnosed my son a few years ago and he almost died. And that has been the only time I have ever called a lawyer. Cruise lines are virtually impossible to sue and this is minor in the scheme of things. I did contact the Guest Services Department after getting home and let them know that I think things could have been handled differently. Also the more I thought about it the more it just didn't feel right and the two security officers, even though not rude, were a bit on the cold side. It kind of went though my mind that maybe they were looking to see if we had drugs or something. It put a damper on our evening and we did feel stared down by other passengers when being escorted to our room. Even a lot of the room stewards were watching us. I always try to be accommodating and I had nothing to hide nor did my roommate but in this case I wish guest services had contacted us and asked if we had found anything then I would have looked myself.

I am glad that you were accommodating and didn't let it escalate. I would agree to them searching my room if they explained to me that someone left something that was sentimental to them. However, I don't think I would let them go through my personal things. They just have to take my word for it. Maybe I would volunteer to open my things myself and kinda give them a glance inside. If they chose to take actions then that's where it would have escalated then they would have to offer me some cruise credit or something when I prove that I have nothing to hide.

The passengers and stewards may have been looking at you just because it is not everyday you see someone being escorted on a cruise. They may be just wondering what's going on.

I hope the rest of your cruise went well.

  14. Still had no right to go through your personal belongings. You guys should sue the piss out of Carnival[/b ]:D

Sue? I agree with you that they shouldn't have treated them like criminals especially the fact that they escorted them from the MDR. It doesn't seem like they were forced to be searched though. The OP seemed very cooperative which may have allowed this to be resolved a little faster. Suing is one thing but what are the grounds that a lawyer would be willing to take up such a case?

  15. I am not sure what cruise line you are going on but I would say yes it will be ok if you are going on Carnival. Carnival's rooms are typically larger. Do an Oceanview room if you can on the main deck of one of the Conquest class ships. These rooms are 220 square feet. Someone mentioned that you should do a balcony but I think the Oceanview is better in your case. Two reasons: 1. This will be cheaper. 2. Regular balconies are 185 square feet of "living area" and 35 square feet of balcony. Having the oceanview you will get 220 square feet of "living area".

Go for it and have fun.
