  1. Very interesting info on the travel scoot. I think that at least for now, we plan to stay home. Dh is 88 and I am close. Yes, I know some cruise into their 90s and we are happy for them but we have lasted longer than many

  2. Yes, we did use that system. It was a bit of a hassle.  The walkers often need to be folded and carried in the hallways to pass the steward carts. We have done many cruises and have decided we are just not up for it any more. It was a good run, but now time for a plan B

  3. As many of us know, handicap cabins are often not available.  We just discovered on the Crown that a mini-suite door was not wide enough for a walker to pass through unless folded.  I am assuming that the opening was 22 inches as I know a scooter width must not be more than 22 inches.  Does anyone know if the door opening are wider on the newer ships?

Aloha and thank you for following along. I met folks in their 80s who were doing just fine on the excursions, but only you know your physical limitations. Some of my best buds were in their 70’s and running circles around the younger folks. Based on this year’s demographics, you would be in the median age range. Plenty of ports without tenders to explore and the only two that are a bit sketchy are Fakarava and Nuka Hiva.

If you do decide to go, I would be more than happy to help you both if you needed it, and if you get hooked up with the amazing CC family I’m sure there are others. I never once felt alone and knew that if something happened where I found myself in need, the community would come thru. While you can always find mean spirited people online, I have found that overwhelmingly people on CC lead with kindness.

You are a peach and thank you. We are off next week on a 16 day cruise to Hawaii on Princess. We will see how that one goes.

  5. I have been following along with you on this spectacular trip and enjoying it thoroughly.  We booked the cruise for next year but your reports have helped us decide that we are just too old to enjoy it in the way that we have in the past. We are 86 and 88 and now must just enjoy the memories and we do have wonderful ones.  That is such gorgeous water. We could enjoy it without the snorkeling but climbing in and out of boats can be a problem even for the views.

Perhaps the most comprehensive Blog and Photo report I have seen.

I am about to book the same trip for a future season.  For this Buenos Aires to Santiago direct Antartica cruise, has being in a port or starboard cabin made any difference?  Both are available now, so I need to pick a side of the ship.  As this is more of a North south run than east west (like a Transpacific or Transatlantic), I wasn't sure if side mattered?

Norberts Niece or others, please feel free to give me any tips and rationale.

We are enjoying the same cruise. I followed someone’s advice and booked starboard and am so glad  Many of the sights are just off the balcony. We even had a smaller iceberg float by very close with 20 to 30 penguins. Shortly before the cruise, there were many more port cabins available than starboard. There was a reason.

Mary, we are in Manta, Ecuador now on Oosterdam. We've had 2 DRESSY nights. That is how they refer to it in the program. They provided a Gala menu in MDR last night. Dress was widely varied from men with short sleeve polo shirts and Khakis to summer dresses and tennis shoes, dress shirt with and without ties, shirts with sport jackets, dressy blouses and slacks, and few going all out with sparkly outfits and dress shoes. I saw no tuxes. Hope this helps.

Do they sell bottled water or cans for shore excursions?  Need to know if I need to pack a water bottle.  We board her on the 16th.
