Also Princess and I think others have northern transatlantics that visit these ports.  We were really lucky  and did Holland's Voyage of the Vikings, normally a very expensive cruise at a very low price.  Holland cancelled a transatlantic that we had booked and gave us the Viking cruise at the same price per day.   In August 22 we are doing the Princess 16 night round trip from New York to Greenland and Canada  I don't think we will get to see St Christiansund  but maybe some other ice bergs.  We are going primarily for the sea days and the scenery..

  2. Your late mom did not have to use the current Princess app.   As I said, I did learn to use the last one.  I am not criticizing all seniors over 70.  I am simply suggesting that there be an option for those who cannot or choose not to use the app.  I am also criticizing Princess for an app that combines me and my husband into one unisex individual.  Please reread my post.

  3. I am so glad our next Princess cruise is not until March.  I think anyone over the age of 70 should not have to use the Medallion app.  I muddled thru it on our last 2 cruises using one iPad app for the 2 of us.  We even got the passports in after much cussing and a few tantrums.  Now my online Princess account is fine.  However the app thinks my husband is me and he is unisex.  I never knew that about him.  We are in our 80s  and would like to cruise a few more times but it is really getting frustrating.  Princess needs to show some consideration for those who were born even before TV.   We have experiences many changes and do not need more useless new challenges.

  4. Our first cruise to Alaska left about May 15.  Weather was warm and perfect.  No bugs.  We have been twice in Sept. and had some rain and cold weather.  However, we saw more wildlife in Sept including bears.  All three trips were great.  Your itinerary looks very nice to me.  You will love the trip

Unless something has changed recently, emergency medical is only $2,500.  Emergency Evacuation and Transportation is $100,000.  We always supplemented the Chase card with GeoBlue Trekker for medical.  Still not sure what we will do when we start traveling again.

You are right.  I meant to say emergency medical evacuation.  Yes medical is just $2500.  Thanks for catching it

$2,500 still leaves you pretty much naked as far a medical coverage. You probably know that Medicare will not cover you out of country.

If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, you will have to pay the applicable deductibles and co-pays at out-of-network rates. If you have a Medicare supplement, depending on the policy, you will have a lifetime limit for foreign travel. The $2,500 would help with those out-of-pocket expenses, but it won’t go very far.

Covid has added new complications. To me, a concern would be testing positive at some point during the cruise or at disembarkation even though you have been vaccinated. It would be fairly easy to avoid be denied boarding at embarkation with the availability of rapid tests. You could test yourself before setting out; but if you test positive at some later point, there is the possibility of being put off the ship and  quarantine. It is a certainty that you would not be allowed to return to the US until you tested negative. I don’t know how insurance would handle that.

The Sapphire coverage seems to be pretty good for cancellation and trip delay as long as your trip does not cost more than $10,000. Be aware of the pre-existing condition language and whether it applies to you.

You are correct about the Cancel-for-any-reason provision.

The obvious shortcoming is the medical/evacuation coverage. Maybe a separate policy for those would meet your needs. I’d talk to Steve who responded in Post #2.

He’ll be able to answer your questions and recommend something appropriate.

Your statement about Medicare Advantage Plans copays and out of network charges is not always correct.  I have an Aetna HMO that covers me anywhere in the world in the same way it does in the US.  I believe that feature was new last year and replaced the 50K lifetime benefit.  Yes, there would be some charges, but they are manageable.

In chat room now. You need to download the Medallion Class app

Tried that. Worked fine except the Medallion account is now my "new" Princess account that I did not want.  It lists my cruise but with the new account number and no elite status or onboard credits.  It just goes from bad to worse.

  8. More issues.  Bigger issues.  I followed the suggestion to clear my cookies on the Princess site.  I then followed the Princess info to reset my password.  Hooray!  It said I have an account.  Boo!!!  It is a brand new account and number .   I have no more elite status, booked cruises or anything else.  It is hopeless. I wrote customer service once and the reply was totally unrelated to my problem.

  9. I wish you well on your journey.  Many of us "older folk"  have had a frightening diagnosis for one or more of the terrible diseases.  It is scary and I am glad that you have a supportive family to help you through.  You may be surprised at how many more cruises you can do. My diagnosis was 2 years ago and I am bummed that I had to waste a year while this covid mess has stayed and stayed.  As soon as I was able, we cruised like crazy and got off the last ship on March 13, 2020 and avoided a ship quarantine. Cruising is one thing that is good for us less able folks.  We just substitute those ship bus tours for the 5 mile plus hikes we used to take.  We thoroughly enjoy the shows and socializing with new friends on ships.  Now we have 7 more cruises scheduled for the next 2 years and hope we can do them all and more.  You might benefit from a good support group. I follow one for my disease online so it is aways available.  Again, I wish you well and some very good years ahead.

I put a hold on an inside cabin for the Nov 9th 28 day Crown about 3 or 4 hours ago.  Have to convince the DW that we should take this cruise.  She really doesn't like the Pacific when it gets a bit rough, so it might be a tough sell.

But from way back then (3 hours ago), to now, the price has already jumped $150 pp Canadian.  Demand for this cruise must be really high.

    Don

My balcony is $300pp US higher today than when I booked
