  1. Well in Ketchikan they measure the rainfall in feet not inches. In Ketchikan the baseball diamonds have gravel between the bases not dirt. In Ketchikan when they get a sunny day they call it blue clouds
  2. El Som' was a favorite when I worked in Juneau 25 yrs ago. Nice to see it still thriving
  3. The other direction is the Sitka Pioneers Home. It was originally built in 1913 and was intended for old time Alaskans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitka_Pioneer_Home The grounds and building are worth the walk and inside there is a small gift shop which at least used to be stocked with gifts hand made by the residences(all proceeds go back to them as well). Its not fancy, and very small townish but if you keep your expectations low it might worth checking out https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60966-d11643851-Reviews-Sitka_Pioneers_Home_Gift_Shop-Sitka_Alaska.html
  4. we were there about 2 years ago and had a nice lunch at https://www.sitkabayviewpub.com/ easy walk from where the shuttle drops off I was going to suggest a walk down to the Indian Cultural Center and take the traii to the Indian River to catch the Salmon Run but according the the website the trails are closed due to bears ;-/ https://www.nps.gov/sitk/index.htm I grew up in AK and Sitka is one of my favorite towns in the state
  5. Thanks for the update appreciate it. We are on the Rotterdam TA (hopefully) so am tracking how HAL protocols work We went on Viking to Iceland and had no cases but other sailings have experienced a few. Think cases are going to happen it more how the ship handles it afterwards
  6. +1 besides the mask switch please fill us in on “lots of circumstantial evidence”. If there are positive cases than it’s important to us to observe how HAL handles it. As it may impact our decision to sail thanks
  7. We were on last week. While underway, lots of scenery. cagillion birds and on our last night sailing to Reykjavik saw a pod of about 20 killer whales was an amazing sight
  8. +1 make lemon-aid out of lemons or in this case Pale Ale 😉
  9. we were surprised we got them. As immigration was swamped in and out. You would think they might nix the stamps to speed things up. We were so jet lagged that we didn’t think to look for a stamp until we were in our cabin
  10. We traveled through last week and were stamped without asking. picture was from the Web
  11. last week we tried the deck 1 reservations once and had less than stellar experience. Seemed a bit bored and when asking about availability he said completely full (with no glance at his Laptop). We then went by Manfredis after the 5:30 rush and asked the Maitre d' and had no problem getting us in (I think her name was Katie and she was a customer service super star). After that we dealt directly with the specialty restaurant and never had a problem getting in the same day (though we did eat later which might have helped)
