    9. Expanded Vibe Beach Club

The spot heats up at night, usually with a live band and dancing.

did someone read this before? maybe cruisecritic is wrong? Or will there be parties at night at vibe? at the other ships there aren´t parties at night at vibe or? Party only for vibe pass people or free for all? Or maybe they sell special vibe passes for parties, new way to make extra money.

Maybe since they are doing away with H2O, this will be the location of the outdoor nighttime parties then...  I'm sure the Havenites with rooms under this deck will LOVE that...

I ain't mad though...  This may make up a little for losing so much public deck space to Vibe if it starts being open to the public at night for parties and such...

I know that you don't like that route, but flying from Birmingham you are not going to get much better. You are going to have to go to ATL and then there is at least one stop between there and YVR. It could be in SLC or SEA but that is about the best you are going to get.

The last time we went is was home to ATL to SEA to YVR. Coming home it was ANC to MIN to ATL to home. That is pretty much how it works from the southeast.

I'm in Birmingham and this is definitely why I'm willing to drive the two hours to ATL to utilize the free and reduced airfare.  BHM is too risky for the layovers as you could end up in Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, New York, Chicago or any number of other potential places.  ATL is at least most likely to be direct on Delta or a layover in Charlotte on American.

Yes. After you're assigned a room, you'll be eligible to make an upgrade bid.

That is unless you book an Inside Guarantee and they stick you in a Studio - a nasty practice they'd better stop doing (they tried to pull it on me). Studios are the only category ineligible for upgrades.

Were you a single traveler who paid double occupancy?

Congrats on paying off your cruise but I guess you don't care about potential price drops.  Its not wise to pay off your cruise so early in case there are price drops to get that price.  HOWEVER, being such a new ship, chances are there wont be price drops.  But it all depends on the cabin and availability.

Doesn't matter of it’s paid off early or not, as long as it’s before final payment date, you can have a cruise repriced if the price drops...  Even if you are paid in full.

So there is 100% refund, less any travel protection premiums.  Does this mean they will not refund insurance paid to NCL even though everything else is refunded?  A penalty for buying said insurance?

When you don't use your car insurance or home insurance, do they refund that money to you when you sell or trade the car?  When you don't use your health insurance, do you get a refund on that?

    😕

They probably should have updated their website first then...  ALL those cruises still show free open bar...  So I'm sure they have a rush of people doing bookings just to get in and have it saved only to decide later if they actually want to take advantage of it.

I hope the prices drop accordingly as well... I think we know they won't... but..

I do see an announcement that the free open bar promo is going away -- instead, you can just get a drink package through the normal free at sea promo (albeit you'll pay more than if it came with the fare).  Not very exciting.  I was thinking they could try to change up some of the itineraries due to the cuts to Cuba.

    Where did you see this?

So maybe you'll actually stop there once?  Honestly, given the huge refurbishments to both Coco Cay and several of the RC vessels doing short 3 and 4 days, the Sky product is getting pretty noncompetitive.  Would be nice to see some upgrades.

I don’t know...  Sky still includes free unlimited drinks. That’s a huge perk for a lot of people.

I just went to NCLs website and in the cruise search selected Sun and then selected June 2020 as the date. Viola! Alaska cruises. The last two years Sun changed to 3/4 cruises out of Orlando in May/June so I was checking to see if she was doing that again and was shocked to see Alaksa!

Bliss & Joy are doing 7day RT out of Seattle. Sun is also doing RT out of Seattle but 9/10/11 day cruises - looks to be about the Bliss/Joy ports but adding Sitka & Hubbard Glacier. There's also the I think Jewel still doing the 7 day one ways between Seward & Vancouver. So 4 NCL ships in Alaska next season.

Wow!  I guess the Alaska market is very hot right now to put that much availability there next summer.  I was honestly shocked when they announced Joy was joining Bliss because that's a lot of mega ship capacity....  But adding a fourth ship now, even if it's a smaller one, that is a ton of capacity.

    1) I'm not aware of any Royal cruises that include drinks. Nor Carnival. Actually not aware of any mass market line that included drinks ship-wide except on the Sun/Sky sailings less than 7 days.

    2) Last year the Sun switched to NCL's normal perk offerings after it switched to the 7 day cruises in September -- which was the same thing I noticed when they opened up bookings a year+ ago. So not a new idea, but it looks like they're moving the Sun to Alaska so she won't be returning to the summer 3/4 schedule. Sky's 3/4 schedule in 2020 still show all inclusive.

Where did you see Sun was moving to Alaska?  That seems odd with both Joy and Bliss sailing Alaska...  Or whatever combination of mega ships is there next year and the year after.

Yes- She offered an upgrade, but it wasn't anything we wanted.  She did recommend waiting a bit before asking for the onboard credit.  She said with us still being so far out from the cruise, most likely the price will drop even more.  Another $300 and I can have the Aft Balcony we want!!!  LOL

Thank You for answering so quickly.  Have a great one.

If an aft balcony is even still available by then...

Just because you do not see the person sitting in the chair does not necessarily mean they have disappeared.  There are all kinds of legit reasons why someone may step away from his selected seat for a period of time.  Unless the person who is upset that they did not get there first actually observes said seat going continually unused longer than the allotted time frame, any assumption of the occupant being that mythical creature 'chair hog' is just that, an assumption.

I get the distinct impression that you're a chair hog yourself...

The Next Cruise Certificates are valid for 4 years from the initial purchase cruise/date.

Extensions have been granted but very limitedly usually the next immediate sailing.

Reasons for granting left up to NCL - but commonly medical emergency.

Normally the OBC that is offered is used to pay half the certificates face value.

I.E. That $1000 (2 $500 or 4 $250) costs $500 with the OBC used to offset the on board

    account balance.

I believe that OBC is Non-Refundable and must be used before the cruise end or

it is forfeited and what better way to use it than to pay half of the $1000 with NCL OBC.

Currently there is a promo to use two certificates on certain classes of cabins or in certain

    cruise markets.

Normally only one can be used at one time.

There are several posts here from time to time about what to do with Cruise Certificates

if they are not going to used by the expiration date - put them up for sale here at CC or

    on eBay.

Sounds like the OP is asking about purchasing OBC through My NCL prior to sailing.. And what happens if they cancel.  Not about OBC earned from Cruise Next purchases.

do you not see the love for ocean and Barcelona there?

wonder how much NCL pays the Artist of their hull arts?

but i don´t get the point why a cruise ship in NY and Alaska is painted with the love for Barcelona?

When they announced the artist and the design, I speculated part of the reason was that Encore would alternate into the European market possibly replacing Epic in the Mediterranean...  And that was the reason why...  Boy was that wrong.

I am so frustrated right now. I'm booked on Gem leaving Boston in October and was just told I cannot redeem my 30,000 points for a single meta upgrade because all upgrades are unavailable on this sailing (all upgrades already used up). Didn't realize this was a possibility, especially since if I do a mock booking there are a ton of cabins still available. I booked the OX category thinking we could just use the points I've been saving to upgrade after final payment. I am very disappointed. This is literally the only reason I signed up for the card in the first place. I feel like I've been bait and switched a little. Tell me - what are the benefits of having this card?? Right now it doesn't feel like much if any.😞

Terms and conditions state, "Upgrades vary by ship, sail date, category and cabin category. Stateroom upgrades are subject to availability."

Sounds like the available "upgrade" inventory is already spoken for.  Just because there are cabins available when you search doesn't necessarily mean they are available for upgrade.  Also, are you sure that a sail-away rate qualifies for upgrades?
